Loola's - always fantastic! Smile Jan 11, 2013

I don't care what anyone says about Loola's - I think it's a place where you can get an extraordinary meal and I'm always spoilt for choice when I look at the menu, be it for mains or desserts!

I was here again with my boyfriend and this was his first time trying Loola's.
Awesome!

Awesome!

I ordered the Oxtail Ragout Pasta ($28) which was mainly tagliatelle (a traditional type of pasta), ragout of oxtail and parmesan, while my boyfriend had the Pan Seared Braised Pork Belly ($28) - honey glazed pork belly with lotus root chips (interesting) and bubble & squeak.

The oxtail pasta was super flavourful thanks to the tomato-based sauce with parmesan cheese. It was further enhanced with the tender bits of oxtail, cooked to perfection!

The pork belly was also absolutely fantastic. It was super succulent and it just melted in my mouth. Probably the best pork belly I've ever tasted!
Superb

Superb

For dessert we ordered the Rich Chocolate Cake ($14). I actually wanted Loola's Brownie (one of the best desserts in the house), but my bf isn't a big fan of brownies. Nevertheless, the cake was pretty darn good! It was super fudge-y on the outside and on the inside. Loved it.

Goes without saying, I'll be back for more the next time, and the next, and the next... you get the picture.

Truffle galore... NOT! Cry Jan 10, 2013

Categories : Restaurant | Steaks and Grills

I've been wanting to try the food at The Tastings Room (TTR) since 2011 but... 2 things: 1) I just generally hardly visit Marina Square, and 2) When I do get there, I can never find TTR.

Yes, TTR is SUPER hidden and it's hard to find. I almost got lost sad

Anyway, I finally found the place and was super excited to try their truffle dishes. I ordered the truffle wild mushroom pasta and my friend had some truffle chicken dish, plus a side of truffle fries. We each ordered a glass of wine as well.

Wow, I can't say anything except that I was extremely disappointed. Truffle taste was missing almost completely for ALL the dishes. I think the only things that were okay were the wine and the service.

I'm never coming back for the food!

Good

Good

Walk past this ice cream parlour and the first thing you'll smell are the waffles... that's Andersen's marketing strategy.

I'm not big on ice cream on its own so my boyfriend and I ordered apple crumble with 2 ice cream flavours - I think we got milk & cookies (or some vanilla flavour) and this Belgian choc one. A dollop of whipped cream accompanied the pie, and this chocolate biscuit thing came with it as well.

The pie was so-so, but the crust was good. I ended up gobbling up the pie crust towards the end, leaving the apple filling behind. The ice cream was pretty okay - like I said I'm not big on ice cream - but I do admit the Belgian choc flavour was awesome.

One thing I really like about Andersen's is the quality of ice cream - you can tell it's very good just by scooping bits of it out. Take a closer look at it next time and you'll see what I mean.

Go laksa-siao at Laksania Smile Jan 10, 2013

Great!

Great!

I think it's strange that I like laksa now. It used to be one of my most hated local dishes but I guess tastes and appetites always change eh?

I was craving for laksa so since I was at Serangoon Nex, I decided to head to Laksania. I must admit I was feeling a bit apprehensive about visiting the place since I'd heard mixed reviews about the food, but my worries were uncalled-for as both the food and service were really good!

The laksa came in a big, big bowl and was chock-full of typical laksa ingredients, like cockles and tau pok. The gravy was pretty good too, but I think not say THE BEST out there. Still, I liked it and would probably return. Oh, the service's excellent too!

I <3 salted baked chicken! Smile Dec 12, 2012

Awesome!

Awesome!

I'm a huge fan of this hard-to-find dish and I'd crave for it every now and then. I was quite surprised to find out that there's a stall at ION's Food Opera selling salted baked chicken and I've been eating here quite often for a few months now.

My usual order is the Salted Baked Chicken Thigh with Rice. It costs $6 for a satisfying portion, a very good deal in comparison to other stalls in this area (e.g. 1 prata for friggin' 8 bucks huffy). I love the chilli served and not forgetting the soup too!
