Black & White Milk Dessert! Smile Dec 18, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

The Gong Cha Milk Dessert ($4.50) is always shown on its menu board but I hardly see anyone ordering it. I wasn't sure of the price but decided to order it anyway, it was a tad bit expensive as compared to other drinks they sell but upon collection, I knew that its going to be worth its price.

The milk dessert actually contains a generous amount of grass jelly and pearls, the special blend of fresh brewed milk and tea compliments everything else really well. Every sip was smooth and milky and I didn't regret trying this, really great! It was also very filling and enough to replace a meal on its own.

Hot Pot Udon! Smile Dec 18, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Ichiban Sushi is one of my favourite casual dining restaurants to go to whenever I just wanted somewhere simple and convenient while at the same time being able to try out different food. Their vast menu selection always leave me spoilt for choice and I always have something different to order.

This time around, I ordered their Nabeyaki Udon ($11.90), which is basically a hot pot styled udon, with seafood and vegetables cooked in a hot pot. The tempura shrimp tasted amazing after soaking in the deliciously flavoured soup. The fresh udon was also springy and filling. Love the soup base the most!

This restaurant never fails me at providing customers with fantastic Japanese food at affordable prices, will always be in my list of favourites.

Menichi Japanese Ramen

Menichi Japanese Ramen

One of my many favourite hangout places include Men-ichi Japanese Ramen. Have ordered their Kyoto Chashu Ramen, Teriyaki Chicken Salad, Pan-Fried Chicken Gyoza & California Handroll. A casual feast to share between 2 people!

Their tonkotsu soup are always rich and wonderful with right balance of pork and chicken porks boiled for over 12 hours. Their handmade noodles are also springy and light without any hint of extra dough presence. Love the quality ingredients they use for all their food items as well. The service are also amazing such that its easy to get staff's attention when you need anything, water are also always refilled efficiently. Truly a great casual dining place to go if you stay near Northpoint!

Ramen in Boat Quay! Smile Dec 18, 2013

Chanced upon this Japanese restaurant that looks pretty authentic from the outside, figured that we would just have our lunch here. The interior decor was also quite authentic looking where most of the furnishings were made from wood, with a warm inviting ambience as well.

Ordered the Chashu Ramen and as much as I'm not a fan of hard boiled egg, the rest of the ramen weren't bad. The broth may be light but the flavour is adequate, the chashu slices were generous along with really fresh handmade springy noodles.

The Katsu Curry Rice was really flavourful, served hot and tasted very old-Japanese, which was great because most of the curry rice you find elsewhere in town usually taste more modern and local, if you know what I mean. The rice was also fluffy and light which compliments the rich curry gravy really well. Love it.

Overall, this ramen place may have good ratings but it's not one of those places that I would plan to visit on any typical days, unless I happen to be around that area again. I paid around $20 after GST and service charge.

Ramen Fever! Smile Dec 18, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

So I've recently went on a ramen hunt and since Ramenplay is one of the more popular ramen joints in the country, I set my feet into the 2-storey outlet at Bishan.

I've ordered their signature Sanpou Ramen (Tonkotsu), whereby this deliciously presented bowl contain three treasures of braised pork cheek, braised pork belly in special sauce and charsiew sauce. This hearty bowl is filled with a very flavourful broth boiled and simmered for more than 10 hours in order to achieve it's rich consistency.

I love all the ingredients that it contains along with the springy textured noodles that's not too thin nor thick for my liking. The perfectly soft boiled egg is also the best that I saved for the last. Always a great place to go!
