Waffle OK Mar 14, 2014

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

Went with my friend to Wimbly Lu. We actually walked passby it without noticing and had to walk back.

I did not know the car was part of the decor.

On the inside you can see them making the desserts.

Even though there plenty of free tables, the service staff seated guest near each other. My friend and I sat with a table(seated with customers) on both sides. It was a little awkward to take photo. It was also awkward to talk to my friend as the table next to us could hear our conversation, just like how we could hear theirs.

Ordered the Root Beer Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream($5). The cake was drizzled with some chocolate and it really tasted like root beer. But afterawhile it started to taste like chocolate cake. The cake was dense and very slightly gooey. With the vanilla icecream, it tatsted like root beer float except that the root beer is in a cake form.

Next came the waffles($8.50). Looked yummy. Chose salted caramel icecream. It tasted more salty then sweet. A little like cold salt ice cream. Not that nice to me. Waffles without the maple syrup was a little plain however the maple syrup help add swetness and made the waffle taste better. The waffle texture was nice, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.

Average sushi OK Mar 13, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Went to the outlet at changi airport at around 3pm for the buffet. Only 1 table was occupied.

Something not to be missed whenever I dine at Sakae Sushi- Ebikko. I love flying fish roe a lot! But the sad part is it is very filling(cause of the rice).

I also love cha soba. However the one at this outlet was overcooked. The soba was softer. The one at plaza singapura is much better.

An item you should definetly order is the chawamushi. If all else fail there is still the chawamushi to save the day. I like it, there is crabmeat, mushroom and glass noodles in it. I ate 2 portion of it.

Wanted to eat some tempura and the only one I could order is from the handroll. The prawn is nice and the batter is crispy. You could taste more of the prawn from the tempura on than the fried one.

The honey sakura ebi was so so. A little too sweet. Not something you should order, considering that it is a pink plate.

It is also a pink plate. Tasted like I was eatiing oil. Texture very crispy. Not nice at all.
For my red plate I had Tako Sashimi. It was okay but the one I ate at plaza singapura was fresher. The Spicy Salmon Gunkan served here was also a little more spicier than the one at other outlet. The Salmon Sushi at scape is fresher.

Overall after the meal I was bloated. My stomach almost exploded. If you order the right item, it is definitely worth your money and stomach.

Nice Little Japanese Shop Smile Mar 11, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese

The place that I wanted to eat was closed so I decided to eat at Japanese Curry Express instead. It was quite awkward as my friend and I were the only customer there. The atmosphere there was quiet, just the sound of the air-con. But with determination to eat Japanese food, we walked into the shop.
There were two people working in the shop. One in the front while the other in the kitchen.

The menu was placed on the table but if you needed another one you could ask for it or take another located next to the cash register.
Menu

Menu

I think that they offer quite a lot of choices despite the small size of the shop. Around 32 items to choose from. Drinks available are soft drinks- 100 plus, green tea, lemon tea etc..($1.50)
Salmon Mentai Maki

Salmon Mentai Maki

When I saw the menu I knew what I wanted- Sushi! I wanted to try all their sushi but they only had enough rice to make 2 more. ): But 2 is still good. We ordered Salmon Mentai($8.50) and Ebi Mango Maki($9). The salmon mentai maki is crabmeat and cucumber topped with salmon and a spoon of creamy cod roe, lightly torched. The sushi was yummy, although I had tastier ones before but still, it was worth it.
Ebi Mango Maki

Ebi Mango Maki

Next came the Ebi Mango Maki, deep fried prawn with mango, topped with tobiko, drizzled with mayonnaise and some sesame seeds. Presentation of the dish looked great. The mango was quite mild. Fried ebi and sushi just go so well together.
Hiyashi Ramen

Hiyashi Ramen

The Hiyashi Ramen($6.50) consisted of chilled ramen noodles with slices of naruto, cucumber, pork and crabmeat with some sauce that tasted a little like sesame sauce used in Chinese cooking. It is a very refreshing dish.
Pork Katsu Curry Rice

Pork Katsu Curry Rice

Well how can you not order a curry dish in a place called Japanese Curry Express? I ordered the Pork Katsu Curry Rice($6.50). Curry and pork were average, nothing above average.

What I enjoyed eating here was the sushi and that there is no service charge or GST. Will definitely be back to try more of their maki!

Bland pasta OK Mar 07, 2014

Categories : European | Pasta | Paella

Went to Ambush for lunch with my friends. I ordered the set lunch- Baby Scallop Fish Roe Cream Sauce ($10.90). It came with soup and a drink. I chose iced tea. Sugar syrup was provided for it.
Corn Soup

Corn Soup

Soup was corn soup. It's cream based. It was nice. Had some bits of corn which added texture.
Baby Scallop Fish Roe Cream Sauce

Baby Scallop Fish Roe Cream Sauce

For the pasta you could choose the type of pasta you wanted- linguine, spaghetti or penne. I chose spaghetti. The fish roe didn't had much taste. The sauce was quite bland, not really creamy and had a strong seafood taste(not really nice). However after adding salt and pepper, it tasted a whole lot better.

Best Fried Carrot Cake! Smile Feb 28, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Hawker Centre

Went to Singapore Food & Beverage fair today and came across this stall selling carrot cake except that it offered 10 different flavors! All the extra flavors they add seasoning powder for the taste. The uncle and aunty at the booth was really nice and friendly. They recommend the original flavor but I like seaweed so I ordered carrot cake with nori seaweed.

My first bite and I could bite and taste the chai po. Crunchy, salty and just so yummy with the egg and carrot cake. The carrot cake wasn't oily and the salt level is just nice. Couldn't really taste much of the seaweed but who cares when the carrot cake is so delicious!

I'll definitely go AMK to find this stall.
