teh and eggs OK Jul 07, 2013
Categories : Food Court

I had quite an early dinner so I was feeling a little hungry. I decided to get a set meal from the beverage stall which comes with two eggs, a slice of toasted bread and coffee/tea. I give the toast to my friend while I ate the eggs and the tea. The eggs are far too runny when I cracked it open. I went back to change and the staff was alright with the change, though she seemed to be grumbling a little. The second time around, the eggs are better and not too raw so it is fine. The tea seemed to be rather sweet even though I ordered teh ci siew dai which is quite disappointing since I ordered siew dai because I like my teas to be less sweet.

Black carrot cake OK Jul 07, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre

I have tried the white carrot cake from this stall before and it was quite alright, so I decided to try the black carrot cake since the waiting time is shorter over at this stall. True enough, within 5 minutes, I got my black carrot cake for takeaway. The portion is rather small, but that is because it is $2. There are quite a few specks of egg here and there, but largely, I felt that the eggs could have been more to have more flavour/taste. The sweet sauce used to fry the carrot cake was alright, resulting in carrot cake with the right amount of sweetness. I forgot to ask them to add chilli which I think will definitely help in boosting the overall taste.

average tasting OK Jul 07, 2013

Recently we had been quite fond of having bite sized paus for breakfast as it allowed us to enjoy more flavours at one go. My mother got two of these paus from the nearby hawker center for me as my breakfast. She got the coffee pau and the tau sa pau for me. Each costs 70 cents. The pau is slightly bigger than what I would have preferred. When I peeled open the pau, the pau exterior to the filling was around 7:3 ratio. The filling was quite sweet in my opinion. I would have liked the tau sia filling to be less sweet. The coffee pau filling is also quite sweet, though not as sweet as the tau sa filling probably because the coffee taste is bitterish by nature. I thought these paus are just average as I had better ones before.

Traditional biscuits OK Jun 21, 2013

Recently when I went to Takashimaya, I was pleasantly surprised that Da Zhong Kok opened a branch there. What they sell at Takashimaya is the same as what is sold in the Chinatown main branch, just that there are lesser varieties. I know my parents loved the salty biscuit, so I bought a packet of it home. It costs me $1.80 if I recall correctly. There are 4 pieces in each packet, so each piece is 45cents. The biscuit is quite alright, I felt it was quite spongy and not very soft. The salty filling in the biscuit is also not too nice in my opinion. I still preferred the ones sold at the Alexandra road which is softer and just simply nicer.

economic rice OK Jun 19, 2013

My mother got a packet of rice for me for lunch as she did not cook. She bought bittergourd, fried beancurd and chicken for me. The fried beancurd is very tasty as it is tossed with some kind of spicy sauce which made it very appetitising. The chicken meat is also quite alright, though the person who packed the dishes for us happened to take quite a lot of chicken skin, with the result that there is very little chicken meat. I did not like the bittergourd as I felt it is far too soft from being overcooked. I ended up leaving a lot of the bittergourd behind, but otherwise, this is still ok.
