Cuisine that is not meant for the common street boy? I can’t really blame them. It’s all about the perception each of us abide to…

There are still pockets of friends who still continue to associate me as an high class individual often judging from the way I speak and describe certain dessert terms such as Creme Brulee, Mille-feuille and Mont Blanc just to named a few of my favourite ones. Even the French term for cake, gateau is more than a mouthful for most of my friends to utter and much less indulge in them.

From my knowledge, the owners of Saveur started out as a small stall at some random coffeeshop at Joo Chiat, serving French food at coffeeshop price. Which if I translate into my own words, serving French food at affordable price…

In 2012, they moved into the city and set up their stronghold which is only two street away from Raffles Hotel. I have to be honest with you, I actually went there twice, each time with different dining partners and was turned away on both occasions either because our tummy couldn’t endure the hunger pangs caused by the long Q or we came late after their last order. It was only on my third visit before I managed to get myself a table for two with an old friend of mine whom recently got an interest in fishing.

I was determined to try their food you see. Where else in the central could you find a bowl of Pasta that cost $3.90 or a plate of Duck Confit at $8.90? I just knew I have to come and showcase this finding to my friends and fellow readers.

The beautifully woven Angel Hair Pasta With Tiger Prawn And Lumpfish Caviar ($6.90). It’s almost like a piece of art when the pasta arrived on our table. I love how the prawns were beautifully lined up along the hair of an Angel with specks of Caviar here and there.

The taste was just as exceptional as it looks. The olive oil gave the pasta a moisturizing context while the prawns were succulent, signs of freshness I would infer. The Caviar though, gave the simplistic pasta something worth courting for.

Personally, I’m a sucker for Foie Gras. it’s one of those must have thing for me whenever I go for a French meal. Even more so that particular night because my dining partner had never tried one before! I spoke in the best French I could and I got myself the Pan Fried Foie Gras With Lentils And Pickled Onions ($7.90).

Slightly overcooked if you ask me but the flavors seemed to explode within your mouth as you worked your way through the fatten Goose Liver. My partner still didn’t like the idea of eating Liver but hey, at least he gave it a try right?

Do note that this is 35g only. Rather petite I have to confess but for our first time, it did just fine…

Being an angler himself, my partner knew he’s so going for the Barramundi With Crab Potato And French Beans ($12.90). The fillet was fresh and pan fried nicely. The meat was flaky and tender. Once again, signs of freshness. The Crab Potato though didn’t have any crab taste with every bite we took.

When it comes to duck confit, I’m always looking for a juicy meat thigh to sink my metal wares into. Afterall, the meat should be simmered in it’s own fat. Hence, I was expecting an explosion of umami taste to it. But somehow I was disappointed by Saveur’s rendition ($8.90). The meat was just too dry. It’s almost like eating a fried one to a confit. I expected more but then again maybe I expected too much?

Just in the nick of time, our last order as it is Saveur’s last order. The Pistachio Panna Cotta ($6.90) couldn’t have ended our dinner any better…

Saveur is set to impress the crowd that’s for sure. Just look at the number of diners strolling in? Service was commendable since there’s so few staffs catering to a full house. Our cups always seem to be filled perceptually by the attentive staffs. I’m more than happy to pay $0.40 for my cup of tap water if this were the service they provide. If only their waiting time could be as fast as they served their food… I think you will see me frequent here.

My advice to you if you wanna try Saveur would be to come around 2pm for lunch and after 8pm for dinner. That’s when the place gets a bit empty and less vibrant (noisy) if you know what I mean. Do note that they do not accept reservations so don’t bother calling them unless you need to.

So after reading this post, do you still have the impression that French cuisines are only for the rich?

Furthermore, I realised they have extended the place and so which means there are more seats. The restaurant is located under one of the shop houses along Purvis street in between Bugis and City Hall. The décor of this place is very simple yet has a classy and modern feel.
I ordered a Duck Confit ($10.90) which is also one of their signature dishes. This comes with some soft mashed potato at the bottom of the duck and shitake mushrooms. There is a tinge of some orange infused flavour as well. This dish is recommended.
I also tried all of their desserts. They have really quirky desserts I would say. The desserts are innovative and according to the boss of the Saveur, each dessert has a story of its own how it came about and he shared that he wants the dessert the patrons can associate with. For instance, the cookies and milk, the sparkles that is found in the dessert is something that we eat during our childhood time. I enjoyed this dessert which was not anything that I had tried before.
Other than that I also tried their Chocolate & Hazalnut ($7.90). This was chocolate mousse with hazelnuts and raspberries. I thought the hazelnuts and raspberries do go very well with the mousse.
Another dessert will be the Textures of Citrus ($6.90). Oooh! This dessert is amazing. There are like different citrus of fruits altogether in one plate consisting of orange, pineapple, lime.
Last but not least, I also tried the Pistachio Panna Cotta ($6.90) filled with pistachio and cream. This dessert is very nutty but addictive. With every bite, you can taste the fragrance of the nuts. If you haven’t tried this yet, you are really missing out.
Overall, I love the ambience and the place, servers are really prompt as well, love the food, especially the price and everything else and so would definitely return.

This is my second visit here and I decided to order their famous Duck Confit ($10.90) this time round. The duck came perched on a generous amount of mashed potatoes and the plate was garnished with blood oranges and mushrooms. The meat was rather salty which is probably why you need a good serving of mash potatoes to go with it. Some parts of the duck was dried out but other parts still kept its juiciness. The skin was also fried quite crispy. You probably can't find such standard of french food

Heard so much about the duck confit so I decided to try it and it was a disappointment. I don't know if the kitchen changes their chef or because of the inconsistency? Cos it definitely does not taste like what I was being told. Maybe I was unlucky that day to have a duck confit that was cooked and re-cooked again to warm it up perhaps (part of the meat tasted tough and hard) However, the smooth texture of the mash potato saves this dish I must say.

Ordered the saute potato as an additional starch dish. THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME STUFF AMONG ALL. Surprisingly the tastiest dish I've is this $2.50 potatoes. Totally can just have this for my lunch and be a very satisfy customer. The saute potato is crispy on the outside yet very fluffy on the inside. Order this as your additional dish if you are a fan of potatoes! But hope the consistency is there though.

It can get quite noisy during lunch/dinner hours, so if you are not looking for a typical kind of french place to relax and enjoy your meal, you may want to try Saveur for their affordable french cuisine.

Nice salad mixed together with lemon Vinaigrette and few pieces of crispy duck. Adding of the orange is a good idea to enhance the overall taste. Recommended dish but portion is quite small though.

Pork Belly is nicely roasted till very crispy at the skin area, cut to a smaller square portion while adding a portion of peas and poached egg. The taste wise, this pork belly is very well cooked and girls should be quite scare of those juicy fats of the pork belly while the meat part is quite dry though.

The pasta is actually quite cold and a bit hard but over still ok. The small prawns (Ebi) is actually the main source of taste else, this is nothing but a simple pasta. Portion is small but just nice for small eater like me. Consider this is also the cheapest “Main” dish you can find in the lunch menu.

This is consider the best main dish that we had tried. The duck meat is being cooked till very tender and juicy that it might just melted inside your mouth. I loves their side dishes of mashed potato and the mushroom (Shittake) too. One of the highly recommended dish when you eat over at this restaurant.

Lastly, the dessert - cookies & milk - not at all impressed though many are hyped about this interesting dessert with the foam / air on top. Plus its similar to cookies and cream at Esquina. It seems like a half-done attempt on molecular gastronomy, thought they can do better with the ice cream beneath with the nuts and the popping candy.

Pork belly ($10.90) is served with creamy green lentils and soft boiled egg. It has nice layers of meat and nice layers of fat, and it's cooked properly, eventhough the top layer (skin) is not as crispy and crackly as I expected, the meat flavour is simply satisfying.

As for desserts, Chocolate and Hazelnut ($7.90) is my least favourite, mainly because the sweetness of the chocolate mousse is slightly overwhelmed. However, I love the crusted hazelnuts, roasted rice puffs and praline, crunchy, nutty and tasty.

Having heard so much about Saveur from my friend and seeing the special review on Openrice, me and my friend decided to give it a try. We waited for almost 1.5hours from 6.40pm onwards though we thought that we were quite early. There was a long queue outside the restaurant and we knew we had to wait and we were both crossing our fingers that the food have to be good to make our wait worth it. And YES! It's worth the wait!

What we ordered:

1. Confit of Duck - Most popular dish whereby you can see almost everyone orders this dish. Verdict: the duck leg was done so well - extremely tender texture which melts in your mouth upon first few chews and the top layer was really crispy and nice. The mash potato bedding was perfectly made and it went well with the duck confit. Even the supporting roles - oranges and sautéed mushrooms tasted good!

2. Saveur's Pasta - Surprisingly this was served as an appetizer! Tasted great!!! However we found it too
dry and slightly oily. The Sakura shrimp tasted good - no weird taste like the ones I tasted I'm Bangkok.

Overall, recommended to try! Come early to avoid long queues. Some food may be sold out if you are too late.

By the way, service can be better improved whereby waiter and waitress
can be more attentive to customers raising their hands for enquiries and orders. Was pleased with the rate they replenished the iced water. However when we wanted to order the food, we
tried very hard to grab their attention.

Duck Leg Confit ($10.90)

"The duck leg confit turned out dry and tough the previous time I had but thankfully for this time, it was moist and tender. Served alongside with homemade mashed potato, sauté shiitake mushroom, orange segments and orange infused natural jus, it adds different dimensions helps to cut down on the rich flavour and oiliness of the duck leg confit."

"Who would have thought Saveur would have serve good modern European desserts besides French cuisine? Prepared by the pastry chef, I could not stop myself digging into the Pistachio Panna Cotta after my first mouthful. "If you’re a health conscious eater yet want something sweet to end your meal, you would love this Textures of Citrus which has everything fruity on plate. Looking like a deconstructed fruit salad, there are blood orange jelly served with orange granité, freeze-dried pineapple, feuilletine, citrus segments with refreshing lime zest. I would say this is a perfect dessert especially after a heavy meal."

Often, haute cuisine has been highly thought of as highway robbery – fair value estimated for its meticulous preparation and luxurious presentation. Some truth in it, yes. Hardly less exorbitant anywhere, except at Saveur where prices are friendly. Less convincing it may be, as we are taught to believe that lower expenditure equates inferior food quality and mediocre taste. To prove otherwise, Saveur could be one that is worth experimenting.

Saveur – a brainchild of 2 Shatec-trained now-chefs; Joshua Khoo and Dylan Ong – has been well-remembered at Foodstall No.3, Ali Baba Eating House when they first started out. I recalled catching a glimpse of this water-bird mascot while walking past the coffeeshop, and wonder why would anyone opened a French stall in such an exhausted small space? And that was probably one of the reason they could shrink their operating expenses in order to serve up “good cuts with a small price tag”. Motivated by Aston’s business model, the 2 finally anchored at Ali Baba (used to be Aston’s first outlet) - the second after the first shop space failed. Driven by the same vision, the duo managed to earn a stream of regulars who make repeated returns; I guess it was due to the balmy services along with superior food quality, attribute to its infancy success. So the crux is, launch a humble start and outgrew that babyhood to a rewarding journey.

Simple casual but not missing out the con-tempo, the dining area was decked in a non-flashy modish outfit, with mascot, distinctive wall paintings that backdrop the area. Nothing too fanciful as well, the menu was kept to a minimal with 8 entree (starters); 6 Plat Principal (mains) with 3 extra side dishes; 3 desserts plus 1 occasional special.

You could begin with a nice bread roll that comes with a butter-spread, barely $2. For as little as $4.90, I received a signature Saveur’s pasta for a decent portion, approximately a size of half the mains – amazing “student/elderly concession” fare. I wouldn’t expect something extravagant for that kind of tag and so I have to agree that this pasta dish is a steal without compromising on its taste. I feel good to be poked at when the chili oil smeared my lips, while chewing the sakura ebi that capped the surface of that angel hair – cooked al dente. I have mistook the lumps of pale-looking minced meat for chicken, it was pork which didn’t taste like one. Still, the pasta dish has passed the mark.

The foie gras on the other hand fared slightly inferior. Without any bit of crisp, I couldn’t read the contrast between its exterior and middle segment. I have expected the searing to be slightly obvious on its upper cap, but the whole duck liver turned out having a uniform smooth surface. The piece tasted less robust, unlike a richer version I had at Brasserie Les Saveurs which I think its unfair to make comparison since the latter was made to served the fine-diners. Strips and diced apples were infused with port wine and vanilla pod to pair up the soft and melty organ – good effort but will do more justice if the liver was richer in taste. This well-known delicacy in French cuisine appeared less exceptional on the plate, unable to bring out its luxurious character. Even so, I have to highlight that the liver tasted fresh when I tried, as I have saw review that says it has an awful stench which I find unfortunate.

Instead, the least expected Duck Salad captured the most votes. Less interesting but the boring greens were made alive when you nibbled at those duck confit shreds – the salty elements (milder than a traditional duck confit) mingled with a hint of tang from the lemon vinaigrette, coupled with some zesty orange wedge, cherry tomatoes, and a few teeny quail eggs, the composition was made to shine on the whole. I would ditch the delicate foie gras and pick the fresh salad when I revisit, barely $5.90 in exchanged for a $9.90.

The Duck Rillette was passable. Melded together like a pâté, the full-bodied duck paste was smooth and soft which I think is commendable. Served cold in a small jar-sized, everyone was eager to slather some onto the accompanying cracker slices – the aromatic spread makes a good rillette dish.

When comes to choosing the mains, it has to be the usual popular selections in ascending order. The braised short ribs dish is one of them, then the duck confit and followed by the pork belly, fish and the chicken came last. But the tasting outcome didn’t follow suit. The sequence has somewhat changed. My vote was duck confit, pork belly, fish and short ribs, leaving out the chicken as I didn’t had them so I can’t judge.

Duck confit – a salt cured piece of duck leg poached in its own fats for up to 10hours, is one of the classic French dish. Saveur served a good portion of it without excessive greasiness, tender but slightly dry in the meat. Well crisped skin without any flabbiness, the magnificent crunch was accompanied by less fibrous shred of duck meat each time – not overly rich or briny. Be ready for the aromatic compound emitted from the limb and get ready for the heap of homemade mashed potato which has been dribbled with orange infuse natural jus in circular fashion, together with some sauté shiitake mushroom, orange segment as an accompaniment. Although less than stellar version, it is still a respectable fried item for the price you pay – $10.90.

The pork belly scored a few points lower. Visible fats can be seen on its 4-sided walls with a golden blistered skin capping on top. Layers of fats were lined between each lean section, giving its glossy appearance. Reasonable flavoured without much complexity. The crisp skinned is a bliss but I am in favour of a reduced subcutaneous adipose layer though I know others are charmed by the juicy fats in the meat. The meat portion was modest so get yourself filled with creamy green lentils and runny soft boiled eggs that make up the dish. An overall comforting dish.

Quite on par with the pork belly, the Sea Bass was presented in its deep seared exterior, waiting to shine in the crowd. Like a home-cooked, this fish reminds me of my mum’s favourite dish in the kitchen. It is hard to strike a balance between the taste and texture of this ocean species, if you asked. Undercooked, it tastes fishy but once its completely done, the fillet turn out having a dry texture. It is a trade off and I go for the taste instead, in all my dealings. As such, I make do with the overly dried fillet though very fresh. While this was less than fortunate, I get compensated handsomely with a pile of sauté potato. Each dice arrived in a creamy interior and a slightly burnt but nice exterior – moreish.

2 notches lower, I rated the Beef Short Rib critically. Braised in red wine, the meat was faced with resistance when forked through and chewy in the mouth. It didn’t seem that it has been undercooked and far less overcooked, but I failed to recognise the rewarding fork-tenderness short rib meat. Kind enough, the beef jus was less greasy, balanced and rich in taste. They had been a bit harsh on the salt causing the button mushrooms and diced carrots to become acrid. But the potato au gratin stood out from the rest. Served in a teeny casserole, it wows with a light crust and each potato layers taste so rich and buttery! Surely, a simple and hearty side dish that compliments the beef.

Lethal moment took place in the sweet intoxication outbreak. Appraised in order, the Pistachio Panna Cotta outshone its peer. Sheer sweet but not cloying, the green curd was made both creamier and nutty. Almost clad in pistachio natural green, the dazzling hue was made visible with a bit of colouring. The rich mouthfeel was straightforward and made more pleasant with a faint vanilla scent in between, less of any heaviness feel.

Day’s-Special, a section in the menu that you must be watchful of. Today, I tried the playful construction put together by the dessert team. Couldn’t wait to demystify the content, C siting next to me was eager to scoop away the honeyed milk cloud (foam) that veiled the constituent. Upon successful invasion, we saw a mixture of brownish hued ice cream, halved cherries and a pool of shattered crumbs. Interestingly, we found popping candies within the mass and C could hear the explosive sound trapped in my mouth. So amusing! The cherries were instilled in kirsch and that coarse sandy structure was some peanut butter load. Every mouthful was filled with melting cookie dough ice cream along with a bit of tart and sweet, milky & cracking, the formula was hard to break but we managed to unriddle it! I was in great awe of this naughty treats. Try looking out for it when you visit.

Truly zesty – Texture of Citrus is your pick, if you adore the distinctive tang flavour of the blood orange which was made into a gelatin and served with orange granité which I find it appealing especially the fine crystalline texture. The crunch from the crushed feuilletine adds depth to the kicking mass composed by some tiny bits of lemon zest, freeze-dried pineapple and citrus segments.

Slightly expensive with a dollar more, the Chocolate & Hazelnut reminds me of the one I had at Covelli Italian Bistro & Wine Bar but a beet version. A creamy and far from sticky mousse, less intense chocolate flavour and dominated by its candied taste. Made using milk chocolate, the piece is then decked in sourish freeze-dried raspberry bits to average out the overly sweet nature; together with the crushed hazelnuts for some bites, roasted rice puffs, chocolate tuile & praline to complete the beautiful ensemble. Enjoy the moment of visual spell before you start to deconstruct the charismatic art piece. The meal ended with mixed conclusion, neither bad nor extraordinary. Nevertheless, it is worth spending if you have a small budget for a French dining, very decent.

French cuisine is not one of those food that I'll choose if given a variety, because it just seems so foreign! If you're just like me, and never tried French cuisine before, I'll recommend Saveur as a starting point because they serve such beautiful and delectable dishes. I will introduce the dishes Saveur offer, as well as those dishes that I think I prefer and would order the next time I bring my friends to try. Here is the menu:

There are basically a few sections: Appetizer, Main Course, Desserts, Drinks and Special. There's something really special about all the sections - you can see a consistent appearance of duck and tangerines throughout some of the dishes.

We ordered some of the appetizers like Duck Salad, Duck Rilette, Saveur's Pasta and Foie Gras. Saveur also served us bread and butter while we were agonizing over what to order - all of them look so appetizing (no pun intended)! Each of the dishes look so pretty! Totally Instagram-worthy.

Duck Salad ($5.90++): This is really a surprise. I actually finished the whole dish of vegetables, which is drizzled with this tangy sauce that complements the salad really well. The strips of duck are also sauteed to the perfect flavour that is neither too salty or too bland. If you are getting ready to order more filling main courses and desserts, this will be an ideal choice because it really prepares you for what that is to come without wasting precious stomach space! ;)

Duck Rilette ($7.90++): The row of biscuits are meant to be spread with the sauce at the side. The sauce itself is really well-made and flavourful. However I think it's a little too much to finish for one person, so it'll be best ordered as a group to be shared around.

Foie Gras ($7.90++): This delicacy is something that requires an acquired taste. The taste is a little too strong for me, but I think I'm just not used to it.

Saveur's Pasta ($4.90++): I liked this a lot. But I find it kind of strange that an appetizer has such a huge serving! I would think that this is enough as a main course
I might just come back to eat this. The pasta's really springy and the flavour just gives you this blessed feeling! Ideal if you just want to eat this and try the desserts

Bread and Butter ($2++): Ideal as a starter and also to break the flavour during the course of the whole meal.

For the mains, we ordered the Pork Belly ($10.90++), Pan-Seared Sea Bass ($14.90++), Beef Short Ribs ($14.90++), as well as the signature Duck Confit!

The Duck Confit ($10.90++) is what I ordered, and I must say that it is really really nice that makes you want to keep eating until it's all gone! It is a little salty, so the tangerines at the side made a good combination to ease the taste a little. The meat is quite tender (could be even more tender though).I love the mushrooms scattered at the side too. The flavour permeates the whole mushroom flesh itself and you won't taste the raw mushroom taste. All three components come together in a great combination. I can tell why this is the signature dish.

Ooh! My favourite part of every meal. Desserts are a MUST at Saveur, which includes very special and self-concocted dishes you won't find anywhere else!!! We ordered all 4 of the desserts available, and I must say I enjoyed every bit of the desserts

The first one is the super photogenic dessert, called the Textures of Citrus ($6.90++). The name caught my eye immediately – it definitely stands out as a very unique dessert! When it came, I was immediately awed by the colourful display with all the pretty summer colors red orange and yellow! *cameras out* The orange clump in the middle is actually blood orange jelly (quite sour) with specks of citrus bits sprinkled around! It’s really fun to eat each bits and guess what you are eating. Cheers you up immediately when you see it too. Love this!!!

The second one is the obligatory chocolate dessert (well, almost everyone loves chocolate) called the Chocolate and Hazelnut ($7.90++). It’s decorated with a piece of chocolate lodged into a hill of chocolate mousse goodness, almost like a chocolate yacht and also a tail of hazelnut sauce. The whole dish is very chocolate, and a bit too sweet for me since I like dark chocolate. Nevertheless, it’ll definitely be a haven for chocolate lovers.

The third one is another unique one – the Pistachio Panna Cotta ($6.90++)! A lavish layer of pistachio bits toppings on top of olive-green pistachio-flavoured cream. It’s really indulging and I like how the pistachio taste is very strong and quite interesting to taste it in a dessert rather than as a nut ;) It’s a really creative dish!

The fourth one is called Cookies and Milk ($9.90++), appearing as a clouded foam, but there is definitely more to meet the eye as you dig into the froth – with lots of different ingredients hidden inside to surprise you. There’s a cookie dough ice-cream, there’s peanut butter, there’s also bits of alcoholic (tastes like rum but could be something else) cherries in there. I like this one too, but it diminished quite fast cos’ everyone love it too… :’( I will order one big one for myself next time!!!

I like the service, prompt and alert to clear our table after each course. Really appreciate it because otherwise, our table would be too small to contain all the plates

Saveur is a 10 minutes walk away from Bugis MRT - walk towards Shaw Towers, turn into one of the small streets called Purvis Street. Alternatively, check a map. ;D

They served lunch menu with available choices from starters, soups, mains, premiums, sides and desserts. My choice of the day : Confit of Duck with Orange Segments and Saute Shittake @ S$9.90
The serving was just nice. The mash potatoes are soft and and smooth. The confit duck meat tender is soft and tender as well.I love the taste of the saute shiitake as i blend it with the mashed potato.Overall it is tasty and affordable dish.

Crispy Pork Belly with Poached Egg and diced vegetables @ S$10.90
The pork belly is crispy especially the skin. The egg yolk burst out and it just flow beautifully around the diced vegetables and the pork belly meat. It's not extremely awesome but it is affordable price with the serving as well.

Not forgetting we ordered the all time favourite Angel Hair Pasta with Sherry Minced pork and sakura Ebi @ S$3.90.
This is truly affordable and definitely a must order dish. The pasta is very Q and guess what we just can't get enough of it. Basically every table served at least per serving of the pasta.

We ended our lunch with a nice dessert, chocolate and hazelnut. It is a new dessert for us. The crunchy hazelnut bits and the appearance desserts makes me feel loved. It is sinful and sweet but the amount served was just nice for both of us. I am happy with my choice of dessert.

It's definitely a good place for affordable French foods. If you looking for budget-conscious place and would love to try french cuisine, you can try this cafe. It is a maiden experience if you don't mind queuing for the foods. The staffs are efficient and the serving time is within 20 minutes. It is walking distance between City Hall MRT and also Bugis MRT.

Guess what ? The dinner only cost me around $40 for 2 pax!

Inside, the restaurant is similarly decked out in white, but the walls adorned with murals that indicated a deep-seated relationship with Christianity. I was really amused by the direction for Heaven pointing at the kitchen though.

Service was quick and pleasant. We were seated and attended to quickly by Saveur's friendly staff who then showed us the menu. Like it's decor, the menu was minimalistic - take the list of main courses for example; diners choose from just Duck, Chicken, Pork, Fish or Beef. It's that simple.

Between the 5 of us, we managed to try at least 3 of the mains available:

A succulent duck leg confit served upon a bed of mashed potato, with shitake mushrooms and orange slices on the side - $10.90 Portion size was good and the thick, creamy mash complemented the duck just fine. Incidentally, this is the first duck confit I have ever seen priced at $10.90. Talk about a good deal!

My own order of Roulade of Chicken Thigh looked the part of fine dining (aka. tiny portion) I counted 5 slices of chicken thigh resting on creamy rice drizzled with parmesean cheese. The plate was long, but the edible portion was barely the length of my palm

Because the portion was so small, I had to order a side of Potato Gratin, thinly sliced potato, baked with cheese and some herbs.

The Pan-seared Sea Bass was fried to a crispy golden brown and sandwiched between french beans and saute potato cubes with crab meat. Picture perfect!

After the mains, we decided try our hands at dessert which was an experience onto itself =D
The restaurant special of Cookies & Milk was nothing short of bizarre, I thought we got served a half-washed dish by mistake. But the deceptive appearance hid a wacky culinary exploration, where we had fizzling (YES FIZZLING) in our mouths. I wouldn't want to spoil the fun for everyone by revealing more

After the surprise from Cookies & Milk, Chocolate & Hazelnut came across as much more prosaic. A dollop of chocolate mousse sprinkled liberally with crushed hazelnuts, broken raspberries and roasted rice puffs. Presentation wise, I'd really say they tried too hard and the dish didn't really present itself well, which was a pity.

At $20 per pax, I would say that Saveur would definitely be worth revisiting. Next time, maybe the $7.90 Foie Gras?
