At Coco Ichibanya, the concept is such that you can customize your order following the main item that you have chosen. First, select the dish that you want from the menu. Next, select the quantity of rice that you want. Lastly, choose the level of spiciness for your curry. The spice adjustment ranges from Mild to Level 5. You can additionally select toppings to go with your curry rice too.

I like the idea of a customizable menu because it caters to people with varying appetites, besides their individual tastes and preferences. If you are feeling less hungry, opt for less rice and pay a dollar less!

Strawberry Smoothie $6
I was recommended to have this and decided to go ahead with it even though I am not a fan of strawberry drinks. I did not regret getting this because it was good! The smoothie was really smooth and well blended. It was sweet yet not overly sweet and it was very refreshing too. Besides strawberry smoothie, they have a few other smoothies to offer on their menu as well.

Chicken Cutlet with Omelette
Spice adjustment: Level 0.
Level 0 is not the lowest level of spiciness available. Mild (level) is for kids so I suppose level 0 has the slightest bit of spiciness in it although I could feel nothing at all. If you love curry but cannot tolerate spiciness at all, level 0 will definitely be manageable for you. The omelette was a really thin layer but it did not break easily and held the rice well within. The skin of the chicken cutlet was rather crispy but there was a noticeable layer of fats under the skin which I did not like. If you are fretting over choosing the chicken or pork cutlet, perhaps you can try the pork cutlet first.

Thin-sliced Boiled Pork Curry $11
add Spinach +$2
Spice adjustment: Level 1
The presentation of the dish may not be visually appealing but the combination was good. I love the idea of adding greens in my curry (seems like a healthier option too right?) Even though the taste of the spinach was quite subtle, it was nevertheless a healthy and tasty addition with the boiled pork.

Pork Cutlet Curry with Cheese $14
Spice adjustment: Level 2
The cheese complemented the pork and curry well. Half melted cheese covered half of the pork cutlet, giving it a well-balanced spread. Add cheese if you love cheese! I would not say the pork cutlet was superb but what drew me to this dish was the delightful combination of cheese and curry.

Salmon Cream Croquette Curry with Mushroom $15
The croquette had a crusty exterior and a soft interior. While the taste of the cream was not distinct, the salmon's taste was noticeable after the second mouthful. We had this at Level 3 and it was really shiok! Level 3 was spicy for me but still tolerable. My face got red after eating this but it probably is because my face gets red easily. Level 4 is probably the maximum I can go. Of course, I am all game to step out of my comfort zone and try level 5 though it will be a challenge to me to finish the entire dish.

Their meats may not exceptionally good but it is the delicious curry that keeps customers coming back. If you are a curry lover, you should check out Coco Ichibanya.

Too bad Omelet selection only can pick up to spiciness level 3, otherwise I intended to have the peak hot level. The colour differentiated the spiciness level, I noticed that more darken the gravy implied spicier in flavour. Savoury broth with slightly watery scrambled egg, the mixture was great. Fried chicken was juicy crispy without greasiness. $15.00 for mine, the portion was satisfying. It was a quick yet enjoyable visit for us.

Pork Katsu Curry Ricethe pork katsu was deep fried and the amount of meat and batter was in proportion to each other. The pork cutlet was soggy after being in contact with the curry though. The fried pork cutlet tasted crispy and crunchy on the exterior before it was mixed with the curry. Although the crispiness was gone after in contact with the curry, the overwhelming taste of the curry did blend in well with the fried pork cutlet.

The curry was good as the spice was enough and fragrant. It went well with the rice and the fried pork cutlet.

The dish costs about $12 excluding GST and service charge which I think is pretty affordable for working adults.

First time trying Coco Ichibanya and it was actually quite nice. I ordered the Mushroom Omelette ($11.90++) and the serving was filled with sauce (but very little mushrooms). You can also order other main meals where you can choose the spiciness level of the sauce and the portion of rice. More portion means you have to pay more of course. The service is also quite efficient and fast.

The menu offers quite a variety of choices, and there are many aspects to customise your dish. You can opt for lesser rice (for $1 less), or different amounts of additional rice at different rates. Then there's the various ingredients you can add on, and the level of spiciness. Thinking that it's just like any curry house in Singapore, with sweet and harmless curry, I was rather taken aback by the spiciness that greeted us.

We were expecting a much smaller portion of rice so this came as a surprise. Their portions were all very generous and well, the curry was in fact the spiciest Japanese curry I've ever tried so far. First taste of it, I thought it was still alright and thought that the service staff was scamming us with her warning. Subsequently, the spicy effect seemed to multiply and you could see all of us gurgling water and taking cooling down breaks. Thankfully, the staff was very attentive and refilled our glasses very promptly without any cues at all.

The beef was sliced thinly and was very tender, making it an ease for chewing. I would have preferred the bacon pieces to be crispier, as it sort of tasted the same as the hashed beef after a while. The corn was a good complement, adding to the crunch and sweetness of the dish to curb abit of the spiciness. But then again, I'm biased with my love for corn.

At level 3, I thought it was quite a mission to finish the dish. So if you're after a spicy dish but can't really take spicy food like me, perhaps you might want to opt for level 2 instead. Or try out level 3 for that extra kick!

Just like the hashed beef, the first taste left me thinking that the spiciness level was a lie. After the third mouthful, I was almost breaking out in sweat and couldn't really taste anything anymore. Even my friend who loves spicy food (i.e. adds a whole plate of chilli padi to her meals), was numb with spiciness. We were kinda glad we didn't try to challenge ourselves by taking level 5, else the meal could have been a rather challenging one.

That said, I thought the pork katsu was a much better complement to the curry rice, adding that extra crisp to it and it somewhat distracted me from the spicy curry initially. It was, however, a little tough so it required abit more effort in chewing. This is the normal portion of rice, which I thought looked about the same as opting for less rice, just slightly thicker layer. A rather big portion for ladies, but good for sharing!

This is definitely a must-try for those serious spicy curry fans. We left with numbed tastebuds and burning stomachs, making us crave for ice-cream or just any cold desserts after that. Take up the challenge to experience that burning shiok-ness!

There's a lot of nice food place newly opened at Bugis+ and after much decision, we decided to settle ourselves at Coco Ichibanya. Had the curry omurice that evening as it look really good from the menu. A little messy on the presentation but the taste wise was good. I tried a more spicy level of the curry but thankfully it didn't burn my tongue. The curry carries a little sweet flavor yet a little spicy too. Blend really well with the freshly made omurice. Overall a satisfying experience.

Upon entering we saw they have this very cool sofa seats and was hoping they will direct us there, and thankfully they did even though there's only two of us, they could have easily directed us to the normal dining table.
Staffs was approachable and refill water promptly once it's half-empty.

It seems like they only sells curry rice but the selection was wide, ranging from vegetarian, seafood to meat. I was having a hard time deciding while boyf selected Pork Cutlet Curry Rice w Cheese and after some time I decided to try out their Creamy Mushroom Omurice because I saw it outside the shop's banner and it seems like an odd combination.

They have different level of spiciness, he chosen the Level 3, while Omurice couldn't choose any so it's standard Level 1.
They have different sides to choose from, like tuna, corns to meat, ranging from $1 - $5.
I bought the tuna and I didn't like it, wasn't very nice, but luckily it only costs $1.
You can even choose the rice portion that you want, for ladies with small stomach could probably order the lesser amount of rice and get $1 off, to top up rice obviously you have to pay additional for $1 too.

I tried the seafood curry rice and added $2 worth of spinach! I like how the curry is not extremely thick and not too sweet nor spicy. Their seafood had a mix of squid, prawns, clams, scallops which i feel were cooked to perfection! the prawns were quite crunchy!

My friend tried the pork cutlet with rice wrapped in omelette (recommended by the server), and she loves it! I'm not a fan of pork but she claims that the pork cutlet was juicy and rice in omelette was a good addition to the curry! omelette was not too runny or anything.
(NOTE: there's no customization(adding ingredients/rice/etc.) for the rice wrapped in omelette selections)

The service is very good too, refills water promptly and attends to us efficiently when we asked questions!
Btw, the bottle of red things on the table are pickles! (i didn't try it cause i dont like pickles, but i think it should be a nice touch to the curry!)

I would recommend this restaurant if you're looking for something simple and easy!
