Mooncakes, mooncakes, everywhere is selling mooncakes. Crystal Jade the well known restaurant chain is selling mooncakes too. Last dish was champagne pork ribs, I had expected to taste some champagne, but turned out it was creamy and buttery. It was good still just different from what we thought we were going to get.

For dessert, I chose the aloe vera. It was very average. My take is, go to Crystal Jade for your meal and then go else where for dessert to complete your meal.

It was Father's Day, glad we managed to get a seat for 2 pretty quickly. We were seated at 8.10pm and started with our food selection. I guessed it has been awhile from my last visit, they now have a new soup base - sichuan hotpot. I especially love hotpot and has tried hotpots of many places, you would have guess how excited i was and of course we chose that as one of our soup base (the other was the pork bone soup).

The steamboat buffet came with free flow of coke, sprite and chinese tea. Our drinks came fairly quickly and next came with our steamboat ingredients. We prompted a wait staff for our soup and she didn't really seem to bother. We asked another wait staff and she told us we gotta wait awhile for the sichuan soup base.

Hence we waited... and waited.... and waited... Until 8.35pm it was not served to us yet, our steamboat ingredients were already exposed to the air for almost 30minutes. I signaled a senior staff and asked how long more we would need to wait. She came back to our table and advised it will be here soon.

To wait for almost 30min for the soup base totally drained out my patience. I demanded her to give a time frame and i got 5min for an answer. True enough it came within 5min. We could finally start our steamboat at 8.40pm.

To highlight how Crystal Jade steamboat works, steamboat session starts at 8.00pm and end at 10.00pm. By the time the soup base came to us we were left with slightly over an hour for our food. To make the situation worse, they handed you the bill at 9.30pm, asking for immediate payment as they are closing the cashier.

It was a total disappointment in the speed of service and sensitivity of the staff.

Did i mention the sichuan hotpot is not spicy at all? In fact there was a tinge of sweetness, i felt i was having sukiyaki if not for the seeds in the soup that made my lips numb.

Crystal Jade at Toa Payoh is now offering a range of Hong Kong street food on a separate menu, some of which look really yummy. I had the Hong Kong milk tea ($3.90), and they actually use a glass flask and shot glasses to serve it, how cool is that! Silky milky taste, i like it heaps. The two of us ordered the Treasure Pot in Hakka Style ($38.80), which is supposed to serve up to 4 persons. The two of us ordered the Treasure Pot in Hakka Style ($38.80), which is supposed to serve up to 4 persons. The staff advised us not to order anymore dishes if we going for the treasure pot, and we were glad that we took the suggestion! The treasure pot contains lots of ingredients such as Chicken, duck, prawn, sea cucumber, pork belly, gluten, pig's skin, radish, fresh mushroom, duck web, deep-fried fish balls, yam ... and feeds the two of us just nicely. the gravy is flavourful and very nice to go with white rice.

Instead of taking the Soup Restaurant option which we always do,we decided to try Crystal Jade that night. And whatever the stars conspired against us to make sure none of the fish dishes we wanted were available, they more than made up for it by this beef option.Sliced beef with assorted mushrooms. The beef was tender and chewy. The mushrooms were delicious in that oyster sauce and garlic they were fried in.This was a sign for MORE rice.

The quality, affordable and service oriental place for steamboat! Beside Toa Payoh, there’s a number of outlets that offer steamboat menu – do call and make enquiry. The ingredients here is healthy, more vegetable varieties and the portion is small but fresh. So you don’t have to worry that you over order and you can take your time to enjoy the steamboat. If you are bringing your parents for steamboat, Crystal Jade Kitchen will be an idea place that suit their taste bud. I went there twice and we had the drunken prawn soup base which you need to top up and can’t be refill (it will be refill with another soup base). Worth the top up still, as it is nutritious!

The Malay kueh was quite sweet and soft, as usual.
But I'm gradually getting bored of it because it is not that special after all.
The price is also not cheap.

The colourful sponge cakes are slightly better. They are of different flavours, orange for orange, green for pandan, pink for strawberry and brown for chocolate.
The scent of the cakes are very fragrant and have a sweet smell.
The cakes are also extremely soft, so cottony.
I could never get enough of these!

The shop is very beautifully renovated, and the service was also good.
Will come back once a while to grab more snacks

The Ji Pai tasted pretty good too! Best when it's served hot. Good when it's served cold too!
It was also very crispy, not too salty or oily. Very happy with it

As for the Malay kueh, it's more expensive than the usual, common ones outside.
However it really tasted different. The texture was extremely good, soft and you'll feel like you're in heaven once you take a bite of it!
It was not as sweet as I thought it was too!!

Nice try!!!

Environment was elegant and beautiful, service was excellent. Will come back occasionally!!!

I hold my son's full month celebration with my immediate family, we ordered the 10 person sets that cost around $400++. The quality and quantity of the food served was lower then expectation. The first cold plattle was insufficient as there is three kind of meat served but not all the ten people get to eat each type of meat. The steam fish as small and in general. Steamboat buffet is just okay.If you're an avid steamboat buffet lover, you shouldn't go for Crystal Jade's. However, as for myself I love it. The only thing that I hate is their free flow of Luohan fruit drink which is so stingy. Other than that, the food for steamboat are okay. Quite a lot and made me full actually. Eat with family to enjoy better the steamboat atmosphere.
