Having heard so much about Forty Hands from friends and various media sources, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday afternoon. We managed to get a seat but in the non-aircon section. Ordered cafe latte and a slice of choco tart (can't remember the exact name). The latte tasted slightly bitter - think its too strong. The choco tart was semi-sweet, good for those who prefer not-so-sweet dessert. However, I thought it would taste even nicer if it is warm (the tart wa

Saw other people ordering their main course (also heard from my friend that their breakfast set meal is nice), you can give it a try if you are planning to explore the tiong bahru area.

Ever since I moved here from London 3 years ago, I've been looking for a good cup of coffee!! My friend and I went coffee hunting last Sunday, first stop was the Forty Hands. My friend ordered a cold drip & long black, but after I tried a sip of the long black, it disappointed us a bit, it was too acidic for our taste.

Then I tired the cold drip, before the sip, a really strong aroma of coffee rush to my nostril, then when I took my sip, it amazed me, normally I like my coffee hot, but this is one of the best cold drip I ever had, not acidic, strong fragrant!

Normally I prefer long black - but that disappointed me, so I went for a latte. Not like the franchise cafe, not too light in colour - good balance between milk and coffee. Same as the cold drip, a very strong aroma. The glass is not too hot to hold on to, so they didn't over boil the milk. After my first sip, it gave me a WOW effect!!! There were so many sensations going in my mouth, I can tasted the richness of the milk, the strong coffee, it was so smooth to swallow. The after taste was so strong, I can still taste the milk and the coffee.

today colleagues and i suppose to try the hainanese curry somewhere near by... but it was closed, so 40 Hands strike my mind... so we spend 15min to walk from Tiong bahru Market to reach 40 Hands....

the place is quite cosy... interior decoration quite cool... first time here.. a bit lost don't know what to order, so through the recommendation from the Cashier... we ordered.....

Asian Slider (AKA Kong Bak Bao AKA Braised Dark Soya Sauce Pork Belly with Bun) 3 for $10!!! Price of a piece can eat a plate of fish ball noodles in Kopitiam which is way more satisfying, taste wise the meat is ok but portion is really pathetic, the pot of meat is soaked in chilli oil as you can see from one of the photo uploaded here... it is really oily...

Truffle Oil Fries ($8 for fries some might find it too expensive, but for truffle fries I think is worth, quite tasty actually)

Flat White ($5, Like the latte art)

Salt Cod Mash Sandwich (Sandwich bread is very nice, salt cod mash filling is jus nice although you wouldn't tasty much of the cod fish, $12)

Appletiser Sparkling Apple Juice (Refreshing at a price of $4.50)

A place for you to visit for a nice brunch... A sandwich and a cup of coffee will start your day good...

Good tips and glad to know this. Some of my friends had the caramel banana cake@$3.50 and the taste were very normal.

Fourty Hands is quite a nice cafe! Very Australian style. I Ordered a ham and cheese sandwiches that was very generous in portion of ham, abit salty though. The bread however was really good! Very crispy and tasty. You could even eat it on its own! Had a latte which was not bad too. Prices were quite okay too!

Having walked around Tiong Bahru (and gotten lost along the way), we finally reached 40 hands. 40 hands is nestled at Yong Siak St which can be quite difficult to find. However, 40 hands is quite a good find. The breakfast that was served (even in the afternoon) came in a big portion and the good blend of latte finished off the satisfying meal. I'll definitely go back there

From plant to cup, it requires on average the work of forty hands, that is how the name of this three-month-old café came about. Tucked away in the sleepy Tiong Bahru estate, coffee connoisseurs now have one more hot spot to pick up their cup of gourmet coffee.

Forty Hands was a joint set up by a group of visionary individuals who share the same desire to improve the life of millions of coffee growers in developing countries through the coffee they make here.

Its coffee menu features a selection of freshly brewed in-housed blends priced from as low as $2.50 (no ++). The cup of Mocha ($6.50) I had was made smooth and robust in flavours. The melted chocolate in it warmed me from bottom up that rainy afternoon.

On any regular weekdays only a small selection of sandwiches are served. Their weekend brunch menu looked really tempting.

With their brunch dishes (like Eggs Benedict) we missed out this time, as well as the tapas menu in the making, there is definitely a need for another visit.

If you happen to live near yong siak street, you will be surprised to see such a well conceptualised coffee house to be nestled in the heartlands. I tried some cappucino, latte and the lemon cheese cake. It was a perfect simple high-tea session! As their website mentions, their barista is well trained and does not press buttons blindly. I witnessed the whole professional making of my coffees as i was sitting right beside the counter! p.s: Do note that they close quite early at 6.30pm everyday!

Despite only having opened in October, Forty Hands is already drawing a steady crowd of caffeine addicts. Located in an old shophouse in the serene realms of Tiong Bahru, the cafe is named after the mean number of people required in coffee production, from the plant to cup.

Drinks on the menu, brewed from certified Fair Trade coffee beans, range from $2.50 for a single shot of espresso to $8.50 for a large mocha. The iced latte ($7.50) certainly lived up to my expectations of a cuppa from a specialty coffee joint. Strong, rich and full-bodied, this definitely kept me buzzing for the rest of the day!

Aside from a variety of sandwiches, Forty Hands also offers a spread of croissants, ranging from pain du chocolat to almond croissants. Longing for a savory nibble at lunchtime, I opted for the ham and cheese croissant ($4.50). Sadly, the ham and cheese were simply sandwiched into the croissant, instead of being baked with the pastry. Better quality cheese could have also been used instead of processed slices. Nevertheless, the crisp-shelled croissant satisfied with its light and fluffy interiors, though it can't compare to its fabulously buttery counterpart at Mirabelle Patisserie.

Carrot cake, lemon ricotta cheesecake and scones (which looked more like rock cakes) were just some of the tempting sweet options. It wasn't an easy decision, but I eventually settled on the beautifully-assembled chocolate tart ($5) for dessert. Rich without being cloying, the lush-looking chocolate filling did not betray its appearance with its luxurious silky smoothness. If only the tart crust could have been more crunchy- or even better, replaced with a buttery pate sucree base!

As someone who is not a java devote, I am unlikely to return to Forty Hands soon, partially due to its not-quite-convenient location. However, this charming cafe definitely makes a good hangout for those who appreciate a good coffee. (Psst....there's WiFi!)
