Made a lunch reservation in advance, like the ambience despite seeing quite a few negative reviews on the internet (just google). Reached the place on time however was told the chef will be late for 10 minutes. awhile later was told will be late for 45 minutes but a replacement chef is on the way!!!! How can this be??. As a friend has bought a $75 voucher from Groupon for $50, we decide to redeem at this outlet. Upon reaching the restaurant, we have a difficult time getting the attention of the staff. Blockage is placed at the entrance and I am not sure what is it for. When the staff leds us in, the blockage is not placed aside for us. We have to do it ourselves. Inside the restaurant, there is quite a number of empty tables and we showed to one in the centre. One thing that hits me inside is the strong smell from kitchen. It turns out that the ventilation in the kitchen has been broken down. The place is decorated quite grandly with crystal lights on top.

There is also buttons to press for service or bill at the table number tag. When placing our order, we are disappointed to find out that half the dishes such as beef burger, Spaghetti alle Fungi, Scallop Linguine, Fish & Chips and Duck Confit are not available. Feel the menu is rather limited , there is not much choices left.

For the mains, we have

Also disappointed in it as one cannot taste the rum, nor the chocolate.

Overall quite disappointed with the food as well as the service, especially from the manager who took our order for main. The place is quite noisy and cannot seem to match with the image which the restaurant is trying to build. The staffs tend to leave half way while through our questions.

I took Haute (Vanilla Cake with Lemon Curd topped with Chantilly Cream) and so no chance to try the rest. This was good as the cupcakes is very soft & moist. Lemon curd was a tad sour, but the sweetness of the cream blends in quite well.

Classy decor with dim lights, resulting in comfortable ambience.

Do note that if you are entering for desserts, you will be directed to the low tables located near the entrance, while high tables for the mains.

Cajun Spring Chicken ($25.00) is Pan-Seared Half Baby Chicken with Seasonal Vegetables. Underneath the cajun chicken is actually carrot puree.

Fish and Chips ($23.00) is Norwegian Haddock in Tempura Batter with French Fries & Tartare sauce. I love the fish and it was fresh and meat is so tender!

Under the section Cups, we ordered Tiramisu ($9.00) with highlights such as Mascarpone Cheese Mousse with Coffee Infused Ladyfinger. There is liqueur in it, and quite strong too if you are used to those without. But not enough to make you drunk, as confirmed by a non-drinker like me
Soothing dessert!

Under Mini Cakes, we ordered the Raspberry Mille Feuille ($9.00), having Caramelized Puff Pastry, Vanilla Mascarpone Cream and Raspberry Jam. Crunchy and creamy dessert. We had this cleaned up in no time too!

Side by side with That CD Shop, you get to enjoy some pop music for free!

You have probably seen their gorgeous display of artisan cupcakes and beautifully crafted cakes and tarts at the counters of High Society Mansion in Pacific Plaza or while you were walking past the High Society Cafe in Marina Bay Sands. Either way, these delectable treats are definitely showstoppers for adults and kids alike.

It is said that the cupcakes are such crowd-pleasers and have an incredibly high turnover rate that they do not stay on display for more than 24 hours because they are simply sold out before that. With names such as Flirt (coffee cake with coffee custard and coffee butter cream), Fantasy (green tea and passion fruit), Passion (pistachio raspberry cake with pistachio and raspberry butter cream) and the ever classic Red Velvet, these cupcakes are simply irresistible.

But what you probably did not know is that High Society also has a team of culinary experts in their kitchen churning out some fine dishes as well. With a seasonal menu that changes every 3 months and a standard one that boasts a rather extensive selection of pastas, gourmet sandwiches and mains such as Oxtail Stew, Duck Confit and Angus Ribeye, High Society is certainly not pulling any stops here as they strive to offer great food, sweet treats and lovely tunes for their customers.

With theme colours of gold and royal red, velvet upholstered dining chairs and couches and marbled floors, dining here at High Society is almost intense and elaborate. But it's not all chi-chi and uppity, and is instead all about bringing that visual, tasty and auditory experience to the diner and enjoying the good life.

I had my eyes on the Duck Confit which was served with carrot puree instead of the regular mashed potatoes. Loved the colours of this dish and how appetising it looked. And true to its appearances, the skin of the duck was rightfully crisp without being too oily while the meat was well poached until it was oh so tender. The only gripe I had was that the chef may have rubbed a tad too much salt while curing it but nonetheless one of better Duck Confits I have had.

The Summer Seafood Laksa Spaghetti was an example of their fusion dishes. Served with pan seared scallops and very fresh firm tiger prawns, this was a surprisingly good twist on our local delight. I enjoyed the distinct laksa taste which was rich, slightly sweet and spicy at the same time. While it was a little on the oily side, this was certainly one unique dish.

And moving to the part that High Society is best known for- their cupcakes.

We tried their popular ones namely the Casanova (chocolate hazelnut feuilletine and chocolate ganache), Haute (vanilla cake with lemon curd topped with chantilly cream), Red Velvet (chocolate vanilla cake with rum raisin and cream cheese topping) and the Classic (vanilla cake with tahitian vanilla butter cream).

And introducing possibly the most visually appealing and aesthetically pleasing desserts of all time- the remake of Pierre Hermé's signature creation, the Ispahan. A lovely mix of rose water, raspberries, extremely smooth butter cream sandwiched in between soft pink macaron shells, it is so easy to fall in love with this delicate eye candy especially with that rose petal atop and the glistening dewdrop for an added sparkle.

The Strawberry Short Cake too was another pretty picture. The softness and creaminess of the creme mousseline against the crispness of the sable breton cookie base and lined with a border of fresh sliced strawberries, a lovely combination and an extremely light one at that.

Of course, not forgetting the regular macarons of Earl Grey, Raspberry Rose, Praline Hazelnut, Maple Walnut and more than 8 other flavours for you to choose from!

We also tried their Apple Crumble which was not your usual gooey pie messiness but chunks of apple, almond cream, honey and rosemary neatly packed into a pastry square tart. So very quaint and delightful.

I most certainly did enjoy my time here at the High Society and was pleasantly surprised at the culinary standards of the food offered here. It is now not only an ideal place for afternoon tea and cakes, but also one for lunch and dinner. So dont forget to add High Society to your list of food places to try the next time you are at Marina Bay Sands or Pacific Plaza. It's the perfect example how great food goes with good music.

High Society really gives me a classy and cosy feel, especially due its modern furnishings, interior design, sofa and bar seats. Ones can be spoilt for choices with the extensive items; ranging from starters, soups, light bites, pastas, sandwiches, mains to tartes, cups, macaroons, cupcakes, mincakes and drinks. Not to mention, High Society is well known for its decadent cupcakes.

The extensive choices are far what we can take, thus we decided to try out only on light bites, cakes and drinks. We ordered French Fries with Truffle Aioli, Fragolamico, Strawberry cheese, Passion Meringue Tarte, Casanova and Boss for sharing.

The crust of Fragolamico tart is crisp, fills with vanilla cream, atop with fresh strawberries and blueberries. Sweet, sour and creamy - Not much of a surprise! ($9)

Passion meringue tarte comes in swirls of caramelized meringue with passionfruit and orange. It really tastes extremely sweet. Great choice for those with sweet tooth! Definitely not my preference! ($9)

Strawberry cheese comes in light cheesecake mousse with strawberry purees, atop with rhubard compote. Smooth, spongy and creamy. ($9)

Casanova is made up of layers of dark chocolate mousse, praline and hazelnut feuilletine, atop with chocolate fudge and hazelnut. The texture is velvety smooth, tastes bitter and creamy with nibs of hazelnuts. ($9)

Boss consists of three layers; dark chocolate mousse, peppermint cream brulee and cocoa nougatine covered with chocolate fudge. The taste of Boss is exceptionally distinct; it is not only bitter, but also minty, creamy and crunchy - The 'Crown' of minicakes! ($12)

Overall, dining at High Society is certainly a comfort and pleasure, especially with good music and extensive delectable items to tantalise our tastebuds - Bon Appetite!

My colleague, Paul, bought nine cupcakes from Marina Bay Sands for us. It was the most luxurious cupcake in the town I guessed. Cupcake plays important role for special occasions. The cupcakes were not too sweet, but full of flavours. Every cupcake tasted wonderful, although it was simple and straightforward. I picked the most central one, Caramel Cream Cupcake with Hazelnut. It was soft, smooth, creamy and heart-warming. It costed $6.00 per piece, slightly expensive but it was awesome.

The restaurant has a very modern and classy look. Looks like the perfect place for a date!

Two different menus. 1 for wine and 1 for the set lunch. There are 3 different set lunch to choose from. We chose the lunch set that cost $29++ with choice of Starter, Soup of the Day, Choice of Main and Choice of Black Coffee or English Breakfast Tea.

I ordered the Chicken Vin Jaune was seared baby chicken served with madeira sauce. It is served along with Asparagus, sauteed mushrooms and carrot puree. The chicken was delicious! Outside, it was seared till its skin was very crispy! Inside, the meat was very soft, tender and juicy! I would have given this dish a perfect score.

But well... I was disappointed... the joint area was under-cooked with red blood visible. When I inform the waiter, he told me that the meat was cooked and that it was the lighting that made it look red. Well, with his (waiter) remark, I was even more disappointed as this was not the way this should be handled. (With such a nice setting and ambience, their customer service did not match up to it) It was clearly undercooked. As it was a happy occasion and I was with my friends, I did not want to make a big fuss. I just left that part untouch.

English Breakfast Tea which they used their own blend of tea mix. Nothing special about its taste, was normal.

Initially, when I entered this place, I thought that this could be a perfect place for a date. But after the meal, I guess not. The food and customer service were disappointing.

The Service
What really surprised me is the gadget as shown in the photo. Instead of raising hand for waitress attention, all I need is to press a button and they will promptly come to our table!!

The Ambience
What I enjoyed most about is the ambience and nice music playing in the background. With its distinctive design of chequer Italian marble flooring, golden chandeliers, and white walls with golden frames of red velvet, it exudes an old world charm of the good life with a twist of contemporary lifestyle living.

The Price
Even though the price is very expensive but is definitely worth it for the ambience, food and service.

Overall
I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try !!

My boyfriend had the burger with fries which came as a pretty big portion hence we decided to share. The fries were crisp yet not overly oily or salty - just the way I like it

We decided to get cupcakes for dessert! I went with Red Velvet which has always been one of my fav's! The cake contained raisins and also nuts I suppose (as it was slightly crunchy). The top of the cake was swirled with yummy cream cheese. An excellent combination. 9/10

The chocolate cupcake was another delight. The cake was moist and had bits of chocolate in them. It was topped off with a generous amount of rich swirled chocolate. Unlike many cafe's which top off cupcakes with more sugar then real frosting; High Society definitely stands out. 7/10

The boyfriend was sweet enough to take away a whole box of macaroons for me!

Chocolate macaroons 9/10: It was very light and perfect after heavy dinners. The chocolate was not too overpowering.

Vanilla macaroons 9/10: This was another favorite. The vanilla is so creamy and it gives one a melt-in-the-mouth feel.

Tiramisu macaroons 7/10: Had a unique distinctive taste. However I found it a little too sweet for my liking.
