Its located in town, near Sophia Road/ Dhoby Ghaut, so I will swing by if I am in the area.
If I am driving, I will double park, jump out of the car and into the car in minutes.
The bean curd is really smooth and glides down your throat. The portions are just enough without being too much to finish all by yourself.
The store will have pre-packed take-away plastic containers ready to go.
You can ask for less syrup, which I did on this occasion and I find the sweetness is just right. This is a good to control sugar intake, cos most times the syrup will always be left unfinished.
You can also order the fried dough sticks (You Tiao) and the egg tarts.

This dessert shop 8s always so crowded and long queue is always experted here at most hours.  Fortubately took me less than 5 minutes to grab four pieces of their egg tarts here.  Dining area is very warm and squeezy so decided to buy back home to eat.  Egg tart is at $1.40 each which is.quite reasonable.   The pastry is quite fluffy but unfortunately is abit hard as well.  The egg custard is too dry and abit tasteless. Not really that nice. Service was alright as well.

With the famous beancurd pudding, "Lao Ban" or "51 Beancurd" arising everywhere, I guess that their business were more or less affected. However, Rochor Original Beancurd is still noted for its smooth consistency old school style of beancurd in its chilled condition. Just like the beancurd the drinks were soothing and not overly sweet. In summary, if we were to compared its quality to the past, it was alot better during then.

Cost: $1.30 (Beancurd)

Otherwise though, loved my beancurd and soymilk.

I walked over from Laselle to Peace Center (Dhoby Ghaut area) through a shortcut and chanced upon this Rochor Original Beancurd shop. This is the Rochor standard beancurd ($1.20)! The whole seating area is very limited. We were lucky to get seats almost immediately when we reached, but probably others are not as lucky, need to wait for quite some time before there is a space.

It has been a long time since I've patronized this beancurd store again. With the rise of all the other popular beancurds like 'lao ban' and 'rochor beancurd', I'm not sure if they have affected the business here. I was looking for a light snack during tea time and decided to stop by Rochor Beancurd. The beancurd costs $1.20, pretty reasonable; it was smooth and silky, and not too sweet. However, since the introduction of chilled beancurd like lao ban and the like, I've preferred those to the traditional beancurd. The grass jelly costs $1.50; it's also not too sweet and quite chewy, but nothing special about it, and grass jelly drink would be a better choice.

The Rochor road beancurd is one of the places that I will usually visit once in a while for Taohuay craving. Love the beancurd here cause of its softness and freshness. There are upstairs and downstairs seatings. If you find it too hot, you can sit upstairs to enjoy the air-condition.

(+) Silky smooth and melts in your mouth instantly. You just basically swallow it all down, glurp!
(+) Does not feel gritty like how some lower standards tau huay taste.
(+) Mildly sweet, just enough to satisfy my sweet-tooth craving and not be overwhelmed.

(-) The original version, i.e. with sugar syrup and no added soya milk which my fiance tried was too sweet for my liking.

One's dining experience with tau huay cannot be regarded as complete without some fried fritters to complement it. A sinful indulgence yes, but with a healthy beancurd dish to go down with it, we conveniently convinced ourselves that 'one cant hurt'. Older generation folks generally enjoy dipping the you tiao into the beancurd and enjoy it. I personally cannot find a way to enjoy that but slicing the you tiao into smaller pieces and slurping it up with the beancurd was pure bliss.

(+) Very crispy and crunchy and you can hear the 'crak-crak' sound with each bite!
(+) Due to difference in texture and mouthfeel, highly complements the soft tau huay.
(+) Not overly greasy.

Just as a little food tidbit, Portuguese tart is a slight variation from the egg tarts that originated from Chinese roots. The key feature being the former being prepared similar to creme brulee, where the surface and puffy pastry is being caramelized.

(-) Notice the condensation formed on the surface, which explains that the tart had been baked some time ago.
(-) The condensation caused the supposedly fluffy pastry case to be moist, which is a huge minus for pastries.
(-) The egg custard filling was too sweet for our liking.
(-) I personally am not certain if this is an egg or Portuguese tart, seems like a hybrid in my humble opinion.

This is a favourite dessert haunt of mine whenever I'm in the area for dinner with friends. Or sometimes I'd just drive by just to get some for takeaway.

It's cheap and good desserts that you could probably only find here. The quality of the beancurd is always consistent - soft and custardy. I personally like mine cold, it's a simple healthy dessert for a hot day.

If you choose to eat in the store, there's the alleyway seats or air-conditioned room upstairs. But upstairs is really crammed and when its crowded (as it always is) it gets really noisy (also because people like to come here in large groups). That being said, its also a great place to bring a large group of friends to cap off the evening. Everyone would be agreeable - if you feel peckish, you can order their fried doughs - you tiao, butterfly buns, red bean or salted buns, there's even egg tarts. If you're thirsty, you can get a cup of soya bean drink and if you're craving desserts, you can get the beancurd!

Final verdict: Crowd-pleaser that definitely gets crowded very often!

Before the night ended... my mum and i decided to head over to this place after our church visiting... I must say... being the start of a long weekend... It was quite packed so i decided to bring it back home.. The order was massive...

2 soya bean drink... 2 beancurd.. 1 you tiao and 1 egg tart for about $7? I think it wasnt that bad.. My chinese was being put to the test but hey i fulfilled my objective of getting the order done! The down side to this if you take away.. the you tiao will be colder and not as crispy but because the weather has been like a sauna that spoiled its heating instrument to make it permanently hot and humid... i could fry an egg... such so much so taking away sometimes in the comfort of your home is that it is much better...

The service is pretty standard very prompt and very fast and i didnt pay that much...

We ordered 1 hot, 1 cold tau huay, 1 butterfly bun and 1 you tiao at only $4.40. The hot tao huay tasted really nice and sooting. As for the cold one, I think the taste is not as superb as compared to the hot one (personal preference). Butterfly bun and you tiao is just offed from the oven so tasted really crispy and nice! The place however is really noisy especially with many people around.

The Service

The Ambience
Although the shop is quite small with 2 storeys, i find that the place was well-ventilated and not stuffy hence still acceptable

The Price
Reasonably priced at $1 each

Overall
I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this!
