The Steamed Egg cake is probably my favourite dish of the meal! It came warm and had a really nice fluffy texture to it! Tasty and divine! We had porridge with the century egg, and it was neither too salty or bland and had the right amount of taste. Siew Mai was decent and average. There's obviously much tastier siew mai in other restaurants, but at this place I would consider it a steal. It was served warm and the tastiness satisfied us. The Shrimp Chee Chong Fun was good and decent, they gave quite a number of shrimps in the filling so that was a plus point!

Do come earlier as the restaurant is usually very crowded during meal times!

I was introduced to this dim sum at Chinatown by one of my colleagues who frequently goes there for his dim sum fix. Eaten as a whole, the taste is really good. Also the yam cake is quite soft and there are bits of yam inside. It is flavourful on its own without having to add any chili or sweet sauce. My other favourite dish is the har gow because of the crunchy prawns which has a lot of bite. The filling is made using prawns and not prawn/meat paste. The har gow skin is also very thin and soft which is basically what a good har gow should be. For good and affordable dim sum, Tak Po is definitely my choice.

Everytime I crave for nice dimsum without spending a lot, I'll go for Tak Po restaurant. So far I stick with this restaurant after trying a few restaurants because basically the siewmai, har gao, feng jiao, pai ku and other standard dimsum selections are very fresh, nice with affordable price. The place is located in the Smith Street, easy to locate and also always crowded. Thus sometimes you need to wait for around 5 to 10 min for available seat. Also the waitresses are all very busy and so do not expect the "hotel" service standard. The service is basically quite bad, the waitresses and managers are quite rude, but well, I go there to enjoy the food... so don't really make any differences for me :>

For 2 pax is always around $38 if you eat until you very very full (promise yourself you won't eat dimsum again for one month, but after few weeks, you'll crave again for dimsum >__<)....that 's always happen for me >_<...

So for dimsum lover, u really should try here because it is very nice. However strange thing is got 1 time I went there, the food was not nice at all, but after that I gave it a try again and turned out to be nice again. So I'm happy customer now

Baked bbq pork pastry has a good flaky skin that keeps you wanting more.

And the yam balls had a good mix of savoury minced meat and diced veggies encased within. I liked it even though it didn't have the fluffy delicate exterior I was used to.

Me and my friend went to Chinatown for new year shopping. Went pass Tak Po which appeared very decent with a reasonable crowd. Advertisements outside also attracted us. We also ordered beancurd skin in oyster sauce, yam cake and rice roll with prawn. The fish did not come in slices but was cut into small pieces and mixed into the porridge, similarly to shredded chicken.

Me and my friend went to Chinatown for new year shopping. Went pass Tak Po which appeared very decent with a reasonable crowd. Advertisements outside also attracted us. Made me suddenly crave for dim sum.

We did not order what appeared to be the famous frog porridge and opted for fish porridge. We also ordered beancurd skin in oyster sauce, yam cake and rice roll with prawn.

The fish did not come in slices but was cut into small pieces and mixed into the porridge, similarly to shredded chicken. Supposedly boneless, instead we both found a few bones in the soup and hence we took extra care when eating the porridge. It was tedious.

The dim sum that we had was not fantastic, except the yam cake which we find quite delicious.

There was no green chilli and no self-made chilli sauce to do with dim sum. Water costs $0.50 per glass without refill.

In terms of service, ordering, payment and food was fast. The amenities were adequate; the restroom was clean and the place was well-ventilated.

Overall, being a small eater and at $10 per person, I would prefer to eat at Crystal Jade where I spent the same amount of money but the dim sum is better. Also, I had a hard time with the porridge. The place did not satisfy my craving for dim sum.

Been craving for dim sum since yesterday so we decided to re-visit Tak Po again for their dim sum. Was feeling very hungry by the time we reached so we order quite a few dishes to fill in our big and empty stomachs.

We ordered:

1) Har Gow
2) Siew Mai
3) Pork and Mushroom Dumplings
4) Steam Pork Beancurd Skin
5) Prawn Beancurd Skin
6) Carrot Cake
7) Lean Meat Century Egg Porridge
8) Gong Bao Style Frog Leg
9) Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun
10) Steam Rice with Pork and Salted Fish

I remember when I first visit Tak Po last December, the dishes tasted much better than this time round... guess the standard had dropped but the Gong Bao Frog Leg tasted good though.

What a great family time at Tak Po! We had Dim Sum for breakfast and it's invigorating to see tourists like Americans coming in to try our local chinese delights.Anyway it's great food at cheap prices! This is something like banana fritters, its crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside. Be careful because I happily bite into the crust and the hot oil just burst out of it and burnt my lips. This is a must-try!

As usual, my top-favourite rice roll with filling inside (we bought both prawns and cha shao). I think the flour used to the rice roll is very fluffy, it doesn't tear apart easily (not too soft or thick). THe sauce is a great blend of sweetness and saltiness. After eating many rice rolls, I felt that it's time for some dim sum companies to dare to do something different, away from the spirit of majority, just as people puts different filling into the xiao long bao.

I forgot how this taste like, it's probably those kind of forgettable taste but doesn't it look delicious? It's my mother's favourite so i guess it depends on the individual if you wanna order this.

The har gao is really so yummy that 3 pieces isn't enough! Definitely must try. Sad thing is the skin sticks to the paper so i think it's too sticky. If you want to maximize your tasting experience, drink chrynsanthenum tea with a bit of sugar in it so that you can have the perfect genuine blend. If you drink Chinese tea or pu er and other teas that they provide, it just don't taste refreshing and different.

Siew Mai is not as fascinating or delicious as I expect them to be, I've tasted better. I guess it's because when they serve us the siew mai it's already cold, thus the fragrance of this delicacy does not linger in your mouth.

Porridge.. i'd give a passing grade, this is the one with pi dan (century egg). It's flavouring is there for sure, not too salty nor blend. I just prefer congee you know?

All in all, i'd still put it in my list of visiting Tak po again with my family

I was there in the morning, so there wasn't the usual crowd. In fact, since there were so little people, I had more "care" from the waiter, which was good. Some of the many orders I had includes their siew mai, har gao, chicken feet and pork ribs. They actually taste better than I expected. I liked their chilli there, because it’s spiciness and sweetness is just right.
