Located in Tanjong Pagar, The New Harbour Cafe & Bar serves a large variety of general Western food. Think Hawker style Western food with a Singapore / Asian flavour, but more upmarket. The biggest problem I have with The New Harbour Cafe & Bar is the inconsistency of both the food and service.
Ambience at The New Harbour Cafe & Bar is average. Think typical bar, dim lighting, functional but not so comfortable wooden furniture, and beer decor. The good thing about The New Harbour Cafe & Bar is they have quite a large indoor and outdoor seating area. Outdoor seating tends to be more popular, and the place can get pretty crowded.
Service at The New Harbour Cafe & Bar is sometimes good, sometimes bad. Non peak periods means the staff have more time to pay attention to you and food is served quickly. But peak periods can mean grumpy staff, long waiting times of more than 30 minutes, and poor food quality.
The New Harbour Cafe & Bar doesn't have a speciality cuisine, with the menu consisting of a mix of American, British, German and Asian flavours. Dishes are generally tasty with big portions, but similarly upmarket prices of hawker western food. I personally find The New Harbour Cafe & Bar to be poor value for money, and the food quality can be inconsistent as well.
The absolute best dish here might be the Fried Chicken Wings In A Basket, the perfect bar snack. Crisp, pipping hot chicken wings, juicy inside with meat that comes off the bone easily. The skin is crisp and fragrant, with a slight hint of spice. Excellent!

The Pork Chop With Apple Sauce is bordering on good. Nice pork flavour, and the meat was cooked through. However, it was slightly dry, slightly tough, and slightly overseasoned. Worse, I experienced 3 small bone chips. Plus the potato wedges were rather hard and dry as well. While I loved the sweet Apple sauce, done perfectly in the British style, I won't be ordering this again.

This has got to be one of my favourite bars with good quality food and price to boot. Their signature dish is the Hainanese roast pork, and the really good stuff of this dish for me is the belachan chilli! Firstly, the pork is very juicy but the skin is so wonderfully crispy!! The chilli is abit like the traditional nyonya belachan.. so it gives the dish a very unique taste, especially when you pair it with beer! The chicken wings is also a no-fail, because the marinate is well-done, flavourful a

I also ordered the garlic mussels.. it is very fragrant and the garlic takes away the 'fishiness' of the shellfish. I also like to add chilli to it as well. The mussels are very fresh, and what's great is that the dish is huge! I think the 3 dishes we ordered are good for 3 to 4 persons.. I felt it was abit too much for 2 person though.

Lastly, what i really love, is that theres no service charge here. Super cool and a huge plus!

Bangers & Mash
The sausage was huge. Taste wise was okay albeit a tad salty. Mash potato and veggies was good. This was a very filling dish.

My friend's Yaki Udon
This was delicious! Well fried with smoky aroma, and contains generous serving of fresh seafood. I ordered one portion for takeaway at the end of the meal.

Service here was prompt and efficient, do check this place out if you happen to be nearby...

The New Harbour Cafe & Bar is an quaint English-styled restobar at the slowly-being-revived-once-again Duxton Hill area. The cuisine here is basically bastardised western food with Hainanese leanings.

We had:

1) Hainanese Pork Chops ($16.80 as part of the Thursday special set lunch) juicy, albeit fatty, breadcrumbed-coated pork cutlet flash fried and drenched in a thin tomato-gravy, with a side of peas and onions, chips and a fiery chilli. This is one of the better renditions around. A mound of chicken-flavoured rice completes the main.

2) Grilled Salmon Fillet Florentine ($18.80): 2 thick slabs of salmon, seared to retain its moistness is doused with a florentine sauce, and served with with mash, creamed spinach and buttered mixed vegetables. This could have done without the rich and a little cloying florentine sauce

3) Grilled Pork Chops ($18.80 as part of the weekday set lunch): flavoursome and moist, just the right attributes needed for a delicious hunk of meat. This was tasty on its own even without the brown sauce

4) Hainanese Roast Pork ($12.80): This was seriously good stuff. Meaty, and salty and juicy and with the perfect crunchy skin. Both the thick black kecap manis chilli mix and sambal were great accompaniments.

This place don't serve ice water and is bottle water if you wanna have it .... So Sam and I both ordered Ice Lemon Tea ($3.80) while Angeline and Pauline ordered IBC Root Beer ($4.80).

My spaghetti quite decent ..... seafood was fresh enough..... tasted the mesh potato on Pauline's mixed grill and she commented the food quite. Yaki Udon was nice too ... Sam pack one back for tomorrow lunch since she will be on leave.

Lighting in this place was quite bad so my pic came out quite bright cos of the flash ...... service here still quite ok ... but furniture wise I guess they should have "QC" soon cos I was given one which is gonna give way soon!

We ordered a fish and chip, lamb chop and some sausages. However they hesitant about ordering these as they felt that is not sufficient. Luckily they listened to me as the amount of the food just good and they didnt end up with the over eating.

I ordered the mix sausages with is under the set lunch in the menu. To be honest, the sausages were really disappointing. It was not crispy on the outside and the cheese in the cheese sausage was not oozing out as we cut it up. The pork mushroom was normal and we could not taste any mushroom in it.

My colleague ordered the lamb chop, the meat was juicy & tender. The sauce was not very creamy, abit watery with mild black pepper taste. The size for the lamb chop quite big, when girls want to try maybe can share with another one (for those small eater ladies, LOL). The lamb chop is the best among what we ordered, and she felt proud of it.

This tasted much better than the sausages but the winner still the lamb chop. Although the outlook look very "dry", inside the crispy skin with juicy fresh meat din make my colleague disappointed. Overall like other place fish & chips that dun have "outstanding skill".

The service and environment there is good.

returned it. Apparently this has been an on-going problem so guys do watch out if you order this dish. I’m sure I will come back again and try it since the others who did told me the soup is supremely sweet from the freshness of the little clams and their secret concoction of beer stock with garlic, chilli and onions.

The other signature dish is the Hainanese Roast pork. I know I know.. so weird to eat ‘sio ba’ as a bar snack right.. but seriously, for someone like me who doesnt love pork and what’s more, fatty meat, i really did like the crunchy skin at the top, the tenderness of the juicy & succulent meat with the complementary vegetables hidden under it to provide some balance to the dish. The dish also comes with 2 types of sauce, a dark sweet sauce and sambal chilli. Being a spice lover, the latter does it for me.. sedap!

Having not been able to taste the beer stock clams, the waitress recommended the garlic mussels. Im not a mussels person too but seriously, i had double the servings! the generous amount of garlic on top of it and topped with tobasco sauce of it… yummm.. *dreaming of eating it again*

Wings are wings but then there are bland, tasteless ones and the marinated ones. The wings from New Harbour cafe is belongs to the latter but given that there are so many other fantastic things to try on their menu, I might skip it in future.

Fries were ordered as an after-thought but they were fat-cut fires and provide a very nice bite. One thing that struck me about this place is that I realise they do place an emphasis on the different type of sauce they serve with each dish. The one that came with the fries was certainly very tasty but I can’t really tell what it was. All i can say is that the good people there have definitely given it some thought to the sauces and are probably even home recipes.

This place goes into my highly-recommended list and as a side note, I’m gonna be working around the area so my dearest friends, send me a message for a dinner @ new harbour anytime!

The sides dishes such as the mash potatos and stir fried onions also taste very good. Despite being kinda full, I finished everything which is on my plate.
