Prices have gone up significantly over the years but the standard is just as good. Tip for the uninitiated - these babies aren't meant to be kept overnight, else the eggy bits will get a little watery and the crust soggy. Also, when you open the box in the morning, you'll find that the eggy part has an earthquake like split down the middle, not sure why. Either that or some have gone missing, and your pesky little brother will vehemently deny all knowledge of the incident, all the while wiping crumbs off his face.

My mother came back from a meeting at Chinatown, she bought back the delicious Tong Heng Egg Tarts. Too bad I ate a too hearty dinner so I could not stomach them for supper and had to keep them for breakfast. Despite keeping the egg tarts overnight, the egg tarts tasted so good. the pastry did become a little soft but the buttery fragrance still remained there. The custard of the egg tart is not too sweet, very smooth and goes well with the pastry. It was very satisfying.

Tong Heng egg tarts are famed to be one of the best egg tarts and I can understand why it is so when I tried them yesterday. Their egg tarts are in a signature diamond shape with a wobbly crust. The crust is more towards the flaky crust even though it is not strictly so, since flaky crust egg tarts are enveloped in many layers but Tong Heng’s egg tarts are not really layered. Although it is slightly sweeter than I would like it to be, it is still acceptable. They also sell a coconut egg tart which I will like to try next time.

The taste is quite good if you do not mind that it is sweeter.

I was surprise to see they also see a range of hot traditional dessert, like Almond Paste, Black Sesame and the unsual White Sesame Paste. Since I have not tried the white sesame paste, I decided to order a bowl to try.

I sat down in the marble topped table and my bowl of white sesame paste came piping hot. It looks like my favorite Walnut Paste which they did not sell. I guess the creamy brown color came from frying the white sesame. The sweetness was just right and it was fragrant. It was so smooth with no lumps and burnt taste. I would have bought more of this dessert if I was going home straight.

I am still craving for it and I think this is the only place that I know of that sell the white version of Sesame Paste. Do
gave it a try if you are near Chinatown.

Some said this could be one of the best curry puff in Singapore. I tried based on their recommendation but could not quite agree after trying. The crust tasted different, it did not have flaky texture like most curry puffs. It tasted a bit towards the short crust pasty that have got a slight buttery taste. The curry potato filling is towards the mixture of the japanese curry and indian curry. I do not quite appreciate such a flavor and this is not really my kind of curry puff.

Heard of this famous heritage brand from many people and decided to give it a try since I was in Chinatown. Each egg tart costs around $1.50 and is one of its selling pastries. The egg tart is generally pleasing though slightly oily but still nice as the egg custard is soft and melts in the mouth. Other than the egg tarts, I also decided to try the red bean pastries and char siew su. The red bean pastries was a little too sweet for me but it tasted well with the sesame and well baked. The Best Egg Tarts ever! I have been patronizing this shop for years, since i was young. It is a must go whenever you are in Chinatown. Tong Heng has been around since the early 1900s! That’s 100 years of history in Singapore.

There are two main Chinese pastries in Chinatown, both with their own distinct taste but I prefer Tong Heng. I’ve tried almost everything there including the Chinese desserts.

Over the years, I’ve tried most of their products, even their Chinese desserts. (Bet you didn’t know they sell Chinese desserts!) The diamond-shaped egg tart is the most awesomest! Because it sells quickly, they are always baking new batches and so the tart is usually hot. It’s like M&M, melts in your mouth, not in your hands, with just the right amount of sweetness. The other specialty in the shop is the char siew su. This one is different from other places because there is a slight saltiness to it, the char siew is moist and just a little bit charred–which is the best kind of char siew. My third favorite is the egg cake (鸡蛋糕) because it’s light and fluffy.

The shop also does chinese new year goodies, mooncakes, wedding pastries and baby’s first month.

Although there are seats in the shop, which is like the Chinese style of a cafe, people usually takeaway.

Brought some Egg Tart and Lao Po Biscuit to try. The egg tart was well made and cooked with a soft and smooth egg custard and also a bit milky taste. Although the skin was a bit soft, but the overall taste of the egg tart was good and was different from the other egg tart that is sold outside. As for the lao po biscuit, it has a crispy skin with a layer of melon in between. It has a light melon taste, chewy texture and a good combination. Overall a very good shop that offers traditional chinese

I have not been here for a while and they still tasted amazingly good. The crust is always thin and flaky together with the soft and smooth egg custard. And just 1 egg tart is never enough for me, i need at least 2 egg tarts to feel satisfied and that is why i always ended up getting at least a dozen.

I have no doubt this is the best Egg Tart in Singapore.

One Box cost only $7, if buy One piece it cos around $1.50. I like the taste really good and it is not like the normal egg tart with thick skin crust. the crust for the egg tart is very soft. It is one of my favorite pastries and always try to go buy whenever i go chinatown.

The original egg tart here costs $1.40, a tad expensive for a takeaway place (there are a few tables and chairs though) but absolutely worth it. It's not even expensive for a nice treat.

I'd never say no to soft, smooth egg custard. Especially when it's served warm and made even more delicious when coupled with a thin pastry base for contrast. And oh, the custard to pastry ratio here really hit the spot too!

Note that the egg tarts are best eaten when they are just out of the oven, when the pastry is still crisp, flaky and light. When left out for a while, the pastry becomes somewhat like a biscuit crust. The custard is also slurpaliciously (is there such a word?) wobbly when they're freshly baked!

Tong Heng's egg cake is also a hot favorite. However, I don't quite fancy the variant of egg cake sold here. I'll save my stomach for more egg tarts!
