Char kway teow Smile Nov 18, 2013

This stall is pretty popular with the crowds. When I arrive slightly before lunch time, there was already a snaking queue formed. Apparently a customer in front was making a mass order and holding up the queue as a result. My turn came after 20 mins and I placed an order for $4 plate. Although it's not written on the menu, you can place an order for $5 char kway teow, as the person behind me did. That was not a bad choice since the $4 portion is not very big. The plate of char kway teow was served piping hot and I felt the flavors were pretty balanced- not too overly sweet nor overwhelming with dark sauce. The noodles were not fried too dry, it was still nice and moist. And each portion is served with a plethora of fresh ingredients- cockles, vegetables and crispy pork lard. Every bite is sinful but so good and worth the wait!

Thai food! Smile Nov 10, 2013

Decided to drop by this restaurant to satisfy our Thai food cravings. The restaurant seemed spacious and airy (probably due to the high ceiling) and service seemed pretty efficient here, the food came rather quickly. We ordered pad Thai seafood ($9.90) which was served piping hot. This dish was quite decent and flavorful, as it was fried fresh and it's not fried too dry- there was some sauce in it. Definitely a great noodle dish to start with. We also ordered their special item for the day- Thai style Karii crab ($15.90)- which turned out to rather good! It was essentially a crispy soft shell crab topped with Thai style curry sauce. The sauce had a nice thick consistency that is bursting with curry flavour. It isn't too fiery spicy but it also had a hint of some Thai spices. Definitely paired well with the soft shell crab!

Seafood paradise Smile Nov 10, 2013

This restaurant is hidden inside the defu industrial estate, and it is most accessible if you drive. The restaurant itself is getting popular, with people placing reservations in advance for various celebrations. So if it's too crowded, walk in customers may have to sit outdoors.

When we visited, there was an ongoing promotion for crabs, so we deicded to order their creamy butter crab, which amounted to about $42 for 3 person consumption. The crab meat was relatively fat and fresh and paired well with the rich and luscious creamy butter sauce. We soaked the crab meat up with the sauce and also had their fantastic warm and crispy mantou together with the sauce. We could have licked the plate clean of the sauce, it was just so fragrant and tasty!

Lola's Smile Nov 10, 2013

Dropped by Lola's cafe in the morning for some nice pick me up dessert. I ordered their specialty, banana earl grey tart ($4). The tart itself is pretty small, but it's stacked up with banana pieces and covered in earl grey paste and pistachio toppings. This is truly magical- I could discern the distinct earl grey taste, together with the sweetness of banana and the crunchy pistachio and crumbly graham crust with each bite. I was a little confused by the distinct flavors- I felt they do not gel together well but it's a unique combination.  I also ordered a chai tea latte- a nice spicy and milky drink to go with the dessert. The cafe deco is tastefully done with unique pieces of furniture and cost seats- definitely a nice place to chill out!

St marc cafe Smile Nov 10, 2013

The cafe was relatively quiet on a weekday afternoon when I visited, so I decided to drop by  to try. I was craving for dessert and their pretty dessert displays were very very tempting. I eventually settled for Banana Choco Fuji ($7.30) which is essentially a warm Danish pastry topped with luscious vanilla soft serve ice cream and copious banana slices and chocolate sauce. The Danish pastry is so light and fluffy and retains a slight crunchiness despite soaking up some of the sauce and ice cream. Definitely pairs well with the chocolate sauce, soft serve and banana slices. A dessert to die for!
