Lunch Smile Jun 09, 2011

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Food Court | Zi Char

We haven’t been Sunset way for many years. It used to be really quiet at night and weekend. It seems it has changed already. We reached there around 2+pm and we were starving. Restaurants were quiet though at this Sunday afternoon, probable the crowd has left.

We chose the one and only coffeeshop there and decided to have zi char as a causal lunch. There weren’t many diners at that time. Once we placed our order, we could hear wok was on stove and action has started immediately. Seafood fried rice was the first dish to serve, rice was separated, we would taste the “wok qi” as it should have for Chinese stir fried food especial Cantonese cuisine, surprisingly prawns, fish slice and squid were big and fresh, the chef was generous in giving seafood ingredients, plus egg and lettuce, we thought it should be charging $6~8…. 2nd dish was claypot noodle, same as ingredients were generously given but we didn’t like the gravy though, 3rd dish was the salted fish fried with bean sprouts, taste fine too.

Came to the bill, seafood fried rice was $4 only, it was definitely above value. I wonder how could they make money on it? If you are looking for a good seafood fried rice with value for money, this is definitely a place for you, trust me you won’t regret it.
Seafood fried rice die die must try! GREAT!

Authentic North Indian food Smile Jun 09, 2011

Categories : Indian

I would think eating authentic Indian food is best to go with Indian. My friend’s husband is from North India and he cooks well. Their whole family visited me shortly for 2 days only. On the first day we settled our meals at McD as their kids didn’t adapt to local food or pasta. The 2nd day, we, adults have enough burgers and fries, we decided to have North Indian food at Little India. This restaurant was recommended by an North Indian working at Mustafa.

It wasn’t many patrons when we entered the restaurant at 1+pm. Subsequently there were other diners came in. It is a spacious restaurant, we chose a corner table. We took our sweet time to place order, they have never chase us. First of all, I noted that they serve bottle mineral water instead of open jar of water, it feels cleanliness.

I hardly take Indian food but I like naan so much, I can eat it plain without any accompanied dishes. My friend’s hubby ordered few dishes and the best was they were not spicy, it could be kids around so they chose non spicy dishes. I could see kids were enjoying their food so much, they ate them happily with their hands.

Fish with deep red sauce was great, it was their son’s flavourite dish, fish meat was firm and it blended very well with the sauce, it didn’t taste any fishy smell. Paneer(Indian cheese) with orange colour sauce, cauliflower with yellowish spices, chick peas with deeper orange colour sauce, they all tasted great, each of them has their distinct flavour though, sorry for their missing names as I didn’t read the menu. After tasting all the warm dishes with freshly baked naans, the yoghurt was a refreshing one. It has a strong milky taste and it blended very well with cucumber.

The only draw of the meal was the mango blend, other than sweet I could taste, mango taste was hardly found. It could skip this next time. When we stepped out of the restaurant, they greeted us thank you, it was a good gesture.

Turkish Buffet Dinner Smile May 30, 2011

Categories : Asian Variety | Hotel | Halal | Buffet

A friend of mine is a regular patron of this place. She particularly likes this place because it’s convenient location. We would have meals in a period of time and she would choose this place for sure. The restaurant has changed name again as well as buffet theme. I remember my first visit of this place was a Peranakan restaurant, subsequently it has changed into different cuisines.

We went there on last Sunday for buffet dinner. I noted that they were having Turkish theme this time, it has ended on last Sunday. Frankly I didn’t see so many Turkish food serving, it could be out of my sight or I didn’t pay enough attention. Anyway, I tried to recall, there was one cold dish at the salad counter, kebab, meat kofta and Turkish ice cream.

Whenever or wherever I have buffet, I would still opt for my favourite food, sashimi, oyster, crab, prawns, durian pengat (if serving), if all these food are good, I would consider the buffet is a value for money meal. I hardly eat much on warm and savoury dishes, even though I eat, it could be a piece or two, will never more than that.

Let me list their food serve: juice, salad, sashimi, sushi, cold soba, chawanmushi, breads, cold seafoods, BBQ meats (satay) and otah, meat kofta, kebab, chilli crab, roasted chicken, steam fish, fried Hongkong noodle, roti-prata, laksa, variety of kimchi, kueh pie ti, Indian curry, teh tarik, fresh fruits, Turkish ice cream, variety of cakes and kuehs, durian pengat; quite a variety choices.

So far so good, the buffet didn’t really disappoint me, though there were one or two draws on that evening, seabass sashimi was good but the chief didn’t slice it properly, it always linked into a chain, you can’t have one or two pieces only! Teh tarik, if it can be hotter, it would be really good.

I have the durian pengat last month at Café 2000, M Hotel. Literally, I would compare these 2 for quality. This time Café 2000 won. Whereby, Asia Market was a bit too sweet, durian wasn’t fragrance enough and hardly could find bits of flesh, it was too gluey!

My friend has the membership card, so price is discounted to one for 2 patrons.
Seabass is fresh but don't understand why don't they slice it properly!

Chilli crab~consider big and fresh, the only draw was sauce not spicy enough.

I prefer mutton only, chicken can skip.

Sorry, quality has dropped.

If it can be hotter, it will be a good cup of tea to finish the meal.

High tea Smile May 15, 2011

I am not a tart eater but ever since I have tried their fruit tart, I don't mind to eat again whenever I am craving for sweet/cake.

That day I wanted to have something fresh, not rich chocolate as normally I would order banana and chocolate flavour. I have a mango and strawberry tart with a pot of rose tea. Mango was sweet and fragrance as well as strawberry, oh my my, I could eating it non stop. Though I ordered rose tea, it wasn't really go well with fruit tart. I should have coffee or other types of tea without strong flavour. Anyway, it was good to eat at this place.

Gathering dinner Smile May 14, 2011

Categories : Thai | Singaporean Chinese | Restaurant

We were learning Chinese dance with this Shanghainese laoshi for almost 2 years. Coincidently the class fell on public holiday, we decided to buy laoshi a meal after class and since all members in the class were free that day.

It was a good idea after excercising then have good food! Burn calories first then replenish them....hahaha....

When we arrived, the restaurant was full house already. Lucky we have made the booking.

This was my first visit. All the while, I am not a spicy person, having spicy food isn't my first choice of food most of the time. Rare occasion then I would have Thai food. The restaurant setting was fine and elegant. There wasn't much space in between tables though. Dishes was serving prioritise from salad to meat dishes, I would say they knew what to serve from begin to end.

Surprisingly, all dishes were taste really good. I have ordered a non spicy tom yum soup, very fresh ingredients with fragrance lemon grass soup. I have to say it should be chilli hot then I could have the authentic tom yum soup. Whereas my friends were having the original tom yum soup, their verdict ~ Shiok! Overall, we loved most of the dishes we ordered.

To end a good meal, can't spare the dessert. They didn't serve many types of desserts, there were about 6 types. We have chosen tapioca with coconut milk, red ruby and durian sago. I have red ruby, it was one of the best I have tasted.

People who loves Thai food, should have a try on this restaurant.
