Having been patronizing to their chain stores for coffee and toast often, this time I tried their nasi lemak with homemade barley. It is a value meal to me as their seating is comfortable with consideration of the price for a set of meal is only $5.8. First glance of the meal served, it was so so. First try the rice, fragrance with a tad of coconut milk, not too strong or mild, rice was cooked to the right consistency. Chicken wing was warm and crispy outside, marinated with right taste. Fried egg was too dry. Peanuts and ikan bilis was fine. Chilli should be the main sauce to note, a bit sweet and spicy with fragrance of dried prawn, not bad though. Overall taste was just fine. Yet there is room to improve for overall taste. I would say famous nasi lemak selling at hawker stalls win over this one. For a causal meal, this is a good choice. Dining alone, I hardly chose foodcourt, because I don’t like to carry my food and standing for my seat. Anyway, if there are options on other casual dining, I would choose it. First of all, I was attracted by Toastbox decoration theme, mostly white. They serve few types of cooked food only. I chose curry chicken with rice and hot homemade barley. The price was really economical at a comfortable seating. The friendly casher took my order and asked me to have my seat, they would bring the food to my table. Curry taste very local to me of which I like it. It has 3 mid joint chicken wings with potato and a bowl of rice. The barley drink was big too. I saw other diners brought their empty bowl and asked for 2nd serving curry sauce, they served without hesitation. For such price with quality of food plus comfortably seating, it worth every cent ones spends. Dim sum isn’t my type of food, if I have a choice, I hardly choose dim sum. A friend of mine invited me for this dim sum for afternoon tea, prices are 20% less on all items on weekdays. I have an impression of this restaurant is target for high market, hence, shark fin, birds nest, abalone etc kind of food. Their decoration was nice and seating was spacious. We reached there at 2:30pm, the lunch crowd just left and we could enjoy a peaceful moment for our afternoon tea. This was my first visit, a waitress came to ask for our tea selection, we didn’t sure of what to order and asked her some questions, she showed her impatient straightaway! Another waitress came to ask for food order, my friend named a few, the waitress kept asking for more….I stopped my friend for further order as the food would be cold before we could finish them all. It seems all waitresses are in a hurry! Anyway, we have ordered mini egg tart, Cantonese carrot cake, siew mai, all tasted fresh of the day and nice to taste, no msg aftertaste. Then we ordered some more food, this time it was a waiter, he was patient and recommended yee mian instead of yellow noodle for us, as it is less oily. We added a chicken roll with fish maw雞扎, taste was really good. Overall taste was really good and fresh, prices after discount were acceptable. Ever since I make my own soya beancurd at home, I stop buying from outside. I used to buy soya beancurd from Mr Bean whenever I wanted to. I like their Biscuits with pineapple filling too, it is one of their soya bean by-products, it is light in texture without the heavy butter flavour, sounds healthy though. Pass by this shop almost every workday, it tempts me to try their products again. Finally I surrender, bring home a bowl of hot soya beancurd yesterday. First bite, silky, smooth and fragrance, it has them all in just one mouthful. The consistency is so good that dancing in your spoon and sneaking through your tongue into your throat, beware if it is hot! The one I have was the original with brown sugar only, it wasn’t too sweet. I am thinking to try their black sesame paste rice ball with soya bean milk next round. It worth every cent I pay and it saves me tones of work when I make it at home. The setting of the restaurant attracted us to have a try. Before we stepped in, we were guessing what the flat stove for, steamboat, hotplate, etc. Seating was arranged by their service crew. We have ordered salmon set, beef set and crab leg ramen. There was a crew member stood in the centre as the table was in U shape. He put a sand hourglass in front of us, he served us within the sand running. He would do the cooking for us for salmon and beef sets. He was probably well trained, he kept his timing promptly. Food was hot while serving, taste right, price OK. It is another type of Japanese restaurant and new experience to us, at first we thought we need to cook our own food. The crab leg ramen was a bit disappointed as crab legs wasn’t long as expected and taste quite bland, it has lost the sweet flavour. Other than this, we have no complained. We were happy with the meal though.
