Nam Nam Noodle Bar (Raffles City Shopping Centre)

Nam Nam first opened at Raffles City Shopping Centre in late 2012. Within a short time span of less than a year, two other outlets have opened at Wheelock Place and Suntec City.

I have frequently past by its outlet at Raffles City and wanted to try it on several occasions. However, there was always a long perceptual queue! This time, we decided to meet visit the eatery early at 1130am to beat the crowd.

On every table, there was a row of bottles of condiments. Personally, we did use any of them as the originally taste of the dishes were sufficient.

Southern Roll with Sweet Shrimps, Egg, Herbs $4.90

We kick started the meal with the Southern Roll with Sweet Shrimps, Egg, Herbs $4.90 was served with hoisin sauce fried with chicken liver dip. The Southern Roll were bland on its own. You would need to dip it into the sauce provided which was the game changer. The combination of the dip enhanced the flavour and would ignite your taste buds. One 'glitch' was that the rice paper used to wrap the roll was too tough. They really need to improve on this aspect as we had a hard time biting into it.

Pho Beef Steak Slices $8.90

The most famous Vietnamese dish is Pho which is essentially a bowl of rice noodles with herbs, spices and thinly sliced meat (normally beef or chicken) in beef stock. How could we not order Pho in a Vietnamese eatery!

Pho Beef Steak Slices $8.90

The Pho Beef Steak Slices $8.90 was surprisingly good. The two main factor was the beef slices and the beef stock. The beef slices were thinly sliced, slightly uncooked, and hence were so soft and tender. The beef stock was light, rich, aromatic (due to the herbs) and the flavours were so well balanced. Together with the thin and smooth rice noodles, it was a hearty comforting bowl of Pho! Yummylicious!~

Extra Toppings: Wagyu Beef $2.50

Ordered an Extra Topping: Wagyu Beef $2.50. It arrived in a small bowl. The stock was similar just that it was more robust - full beefy essence! The Wagyu Beef was also thinly sliced and was pinkish as it was slightly undercooked. This would be a good choice if you are a beef fanatic.

Pho Beef Balls $8.90

The Pho Beef Balls $8.90 was average. Two main reasons. The beef balls were not as shiok as the beef slices in terms of flavour. In addition, the stock was not as beefy compared to the bowl of Pho Beef Steak Slices.

We quite like our dining experience at Nam Nam Noodle Bar and would definitely be back for the Pho Beef Steak Slices! With more outlets, hopefully the queue will not be as long.

The skinny kway tiao is smooth and soft while the thin beef steak slices may seem medium rare but they get completely cooked due to the being soaked inside the hot soup. The beef tastes fresh with no gamey taste and they are not tough too. The soup isn't really to my liking. As compared to the seafood soup that I had tried earlier, I'd prefer that instead.

If you want to have a taste of vietnam food, try out nam nam.

Finally got to try Nam Nam after noticing that they always have queues! I went earlier for dinner on a weekend and there was no queue. I had the seafood noodle soup ($9.90). I also ordered the chilli padi for 50cents. The soup itself wasn't spicy so the chilli padi soaked in the soup gave it that extra kick. Service was efficient.

Pho Beef Steak Slices - $8.90
A visit to Vietnamese eatery won't be complete without a bowl of pho (Vietnamese noodle soup). At NamNam, you can have it with either rice noodle or instant noodle. I chose rice noodle, since I was thinking what's the point of having it with instant noodle (I was just too bored with instant noodle hais). The beef steak slices were served medium rare. The rice noodle was so smooth, and the broth was flavorful with herbs aromatic smell, as a result from 24 hours of boiling. Above all, the beef was the bomb! It was very tender, juicy, and generously given. Definitely worth the price.

Dry Sauteed Lemongrass Pork Noodle - $9.90
dry rice vermicelli with pork fillets, spring roll, shrimp paste, beansprouts, chopped herbs, and peanuts
This was bf's order. I didn't try it because it looked unappetizing haha. It made him regret for the second time. He complained it was so dry, too much taoge and tasted so weird. At the end, he didn't finish the dish, only ate the noodle lol.

The price here is nett and there is no service charge (yeah!). Thus, you need to fill in the order form and bring to the cashier for payment. Then, just wait for your food to be served. Overall, I enjoyed my lunch here (not for bf certainly, haha). My only gripe is probably regarding of the place. It was so squeezy that the space from one table to another was probably just a span of hand. Nevertheless, the service was okay and food was served shortly.

The Pho initially tasted a little bland, but as we continued with the meal, the taste gradually got more and more appealing. Indeed, the parting mouthful is always the best. I can finally understand why throngs of people keep coming back for this magically bowl of Pho. I especially love the thin beef slices that were tender and succulent. The noodles were quite silky and refined as well.

Every banh mi is made to order whether for in-dining or take-away at this counter. The baguettes are kept in the toaster oven below so every piece is warm and crispy.

Don’t be deceived by the seemingly dry look of the baguette as the inside is actually quite light and fluffy. This is probably one of the best bahn mis I’ve ever had. The pork belly is nicely braised, flavoursome and very tender. The pork pate spread has only a very insignificant tinge of pork liver smell, perfect for people who don’t really appreciate pork liver but it is this pate that makes the bahn mi different from other sandwiches. The vegetables give a good crunch and the mayo with other seasonings simply just make this even more finger-licking good.

When the lady was making the banh mi and she lifted the lid of the tray of meatballs, I was captivated by the aroma of the braising sauce. And indeed, the meatballs were so full of flavour, soft and tender that they kind of melted in the mouth. It was the sauce that really brought this banh mi to another level as compared to the pork belly one.

And my verdict? These banh mis are absolute must-tries! Portion is adequate. Price is affordable ($5.90 per banh mi). Flavours are jam-packed in each sandwich. What’s not to like? Highly recommended! Two thumbs up!

The husband ordered the Pho Beef Steak Slices that came with thinly sliced, tender beef which broke apart easily as we chewed into it. The beef broth was extremely flavoursome. We squeezed the lime to further elevate the flavour of the broth with a nice refreshing citrusy taste. I liked how the broth wasn’t seasoned with too much salt so I could add additional seasonings if I want to.

I had the Pho Beef Combination that came with beef steak slices, beef balls, beef shank, tendon and tripe. I wasn’t a big fan of the tripe as it was really chewy and tasteless. What I did like the most were the tendons that were slightly firm yet soft to the bite. Collagen bliss! The beef balls were also springy. And the beef slices and shank were just perfectly tender.

I enjoyed the rice noodles that were cooked till al dente and had maintained this firmness and chewiness in them. While the accompaniments of sliced red chillies, chopped spring onions and coriander gave the pho extra textures and colours, I would have enjoyed this more if there were bean sprouts and mint leaves just like the real thing in Vietnam.

Their noodle was always consisted broth by herbs, light and easy filling. Classic rice noodles were pretty addictive with slices of chicken given. I was too hungry and finished up my bowl very fast, delicious for me. A good place for affordable price around Raffles City, the food provided was decent too. I will go back again for the Dried Version, look forward.

My friend ordered one of their signature beef pho, the Pho Beef Steak Slices ($8.90). The broth looked pretty plain and light on the outside but it was actually intensely boiled for more than 24 hours! So flavourful that actually to be honest, nobody would ever need the condiments at all! They also have other beef pho such as Pho Beef Balls, Pho Wagyu Beef Slices and Pho Beef Combination.

For myself, I decided to try their bahn mi this time around, got myself the Caremelised 5-Spice Pork Belly, Pork Pate ($5.90) which I considered decently cheap for the really large toasted baguette I received. The 5-spice pork meat were really savoury and full of different flavours at every bite. Enhanced with mayonnaise, carrots, daikon, cilantro etc, this was a really great dish to make my new favourite! Can't wait to try the other bahn mi they have!

Although this wasn't shown on the illustrated menu, the Southern Roll ($4.90) is a great side that can be ordered through the paper menu where you're supposed to write your order quantity on. Unlike the southern rolls I've tried at other restaurants, this was surprisingly soft with a firm juicy prawn to make a good bite. The sauce that it came with also enhances all flavour such that I hoped that I could have more!

Me and my colleague quickly ordered their Beef Soup Noodles and Dry Stewed Beef Noodles to avoid the long waiting time

Surprisingly i think all it takes is about 10mins or so for the food to arrive!
Mine's the Dry Stewed Beef Noodles!
It was delicious, really love the sauce that compliments with the lime that i squeeze it

Salty sour goodness that leaves you wanting more!
I tried my colleague's beef slices and soup, very tasty indeed too!
The beef was soft and the soup is tangy on my taste buds!!!!

I really hope to head back soon to try others on their menu

They have baguettes too that's on my targeted list!
