Had dinner at Kazokutei with my cousin. The service staff was slow and not that attentive. Waited quite a while before one of the staff came to give us a table. We also had to wait a while before we could place our order. But it might be because there were only 2 staff. I ordered wanko udon shokado wazen. The sushi was average to slightly below average. toppings of the sushi were not that fresh. Tempura was lovely! It was crunchy and not too oily. The udon was also wonderful. It was really chewy.

I ordered wanko udon shokado wazen. The sushi was average to slightly below average. toppings of the sushi were not that fresh. Tempura was lovely! It was crunchy and not too oily. The udon was also wonderful. It was really chewy. Might be the best udon I ever had. There were 3 different topping on the udon- sweet beancurd(kinda sweet), spring onion(had a strong onion flavor, I ate without them) and fishcake.

The omu rice inside is tomato rice. Overall quite nice.
I would definitely come back for the udon and tempura the next time!

Famous of bowl of soup base, Kazokutei served delicious and high-quality of Handmade Japanese-style Noodles. Having set lunch promotion from Monday to Friday except public holidays or eve, each of them was only $9.90. Different combination for different day, everyday was a surprise. Healthy-cooking method, noodles brought out the natural taste in soup. Each stripe was precious springy, broth was in thicker version on the other hand. Healthy-cooking method, noodles brought out the natural taste in soup. Each stripe was precious springy, broth was in thicker version on the other hand. But unfortunately, Fried stuffs were too oily and greasy for me. Then sushi wise, the platter was just an average, too tasteless for my liking. Portion was satisfactory, we were pampered with a lot of food with least amount of money.

Pork Nabe Set.. the fried chicken taste bad, I think the garlic taste is too strong.. and it is not hot when it is served. I don't like the taste of the pork nabe too. The texture of the udon is quite good..but not fantastic because the soup of it is not nice. My friend order their mushroom tempura, and commented it is not bad. Overall, I didn't enjoy my lunch there, as the food is not nice.

Prices starts from $6.90 for original kokudashi udon and $9.90 for the soba version.I am happy to learn that Japanese-western food such as Omelette Rice and Curries, dons (rice) and nabe (hotpot) are also available on their menu. So this is a family-friendly restaurant place which can satisfy different cravings at one go.

Hungry for fried rice but reluctant to brave the mad crowds at the self serviced food court, we waited in line to be admitted to Kazokutei Japanese Restaurant for rice and udon staples - fast food but served at the table. I was served a mound of fried rice with tomato sauce with a piece of omelette positioned on top to cover the rice beneath. So I did not experience the joy of breaking the usual calzone style omelette to have the fragrance of freshly fried tomato rice wafting up my nose. Even the hawker at any food court's Japanese food stall would take the effort to make a big gomelette and wrap the fried rice inside it. But not at this Kazokutei outlet. The two ebi fry were dry and overcooked, the panko coating was falling off the shrimp, indicating that it hadbeen fried beforehand, then deepfried again just prior to serving. Not expensive at $8.90++ but poorly executed for a Japanese restaurant chain.

I had one of their special udon sets and honestly, I wasn't very impressed with the standard. The udon noodles was actually not too bad; sufficiently thick and chewy as you would expect from a bowl of authentic fresh udon. However, I was less impressed with the condiments used the bowl of udon that I had. It's just basic cabbage and some slices of pork and it didn't look as appetizing as it did on the menu picture. I would avoid ordering this in future.

One thing good about here is that I think they maintain the standard of the noodle as it taste the same as the ones I eaten in Bishan.

Mixed Zaru Set @ $12.90

This is the set meal that I had ordered with a choice of California Roll as my side dish (You can choose other side dish of Prawn Tempura or Mixed Tempura too if you want)

The handmade Udon and soba taste great if you dip it into their sauce while to me, the California Roll is acceptable as the roll is not really nicely done. Other than that. overall taste is still fine for the side dishes.

The handmade Udon from the Kokudashi Udon was thick, firm, springy and chewy with a smooth texture. While the soup was made from Katsuo Bushi (Dried Bonito) for a stronger flavoured soup.

Katsu Don, a popular Japanese cuisine, is a bowl of rice topped with egg, deep fried pork cutlet, onions, seaweed and condiments. I seldom order this dish and am not an expert in this dish (as in I do not know what to look for in a good bowl of Katsu Don). To me, I like how the egg was cooked, it was cooked just nice and was still soft, not to the extend of runny. In addition, having each mouthful of the rice together with the egg, the sauce and caramelised onion was delectable. On the other hand, the Katsu (deep fried pork cutlet) was just average, sliced too thinly for my liking.

On another occasion..

Omurice Lunch Special comes with 1 Free Soft Drink/Soda Drink. It is vonly valid from Monday to Friday till 5pm only, excluding eve of public holidays and public holidays.

Ordered the Pork Cutlet Omu Rice from the Omurice Lunch Special.

The egg was cooked just nice, soft and a little runny (not too hard). Underneath the egg was fried rice flavoured with ketchup. It was tasty and not oily.

The Pork Cutlet was average. The cutlet was crispy but thin and dry.

To be frank, the fries were just average. A tad too dry.

Flavourful and tasty soup. I was pleasantly surprised that there were a lot of ingredients in the bowl of soup such as mushrooms and onions. The downside was that it was on the salty end.

After having lunch over at Kazokutei on two occasions, I find that the lunch sets here are very reasonably priced for the amount of food. The Kokudashi Udon and Katsu Don Set was delicious. As for the Pork Cutlet Omu Rice, the Omu Rice and the Soup are the ones that will make me want to order this again. Service wise, the serving staff was prompt in refilling the drinks, taking the orders and serving the food. Overall, quite a nice place to come for Japanese cuisine.

From the menu,my bf had ordered kimuchi udon with pork. And me ordered udon chicken with katsu. The udon soup is nice and i like the udon. The udon was really elasticity and thick. I super like the katsu, the rice come with an egg on top. When the sauce go into the rice, that great. I really enjoyed the food here because the udon with katsu was very delicious.
Service was normal, servers are not attentive and easily available. The price is reasonably. Will come again to try other dish.
