Stew Beef Noodle - $7.90

On the contrary, I dun really like the beef noodles. I think besides tender & tasty beef, the soup is another main factor to differentiate between a good and bad beef noodles.

The noodles was okay, the beef was tender alright. In fact, it smell good when it was served. But, it tasted too much like pepper soup. It was so peppery and spicy that I couldnt finish it. Quite disappointed and definitely a far fetch from the one at Taiwan.

We also had a braised pork rice dish ($6.90)... it's bursting with flavours and very fragrant. Will come back and eat this again for sure.

Overall, a lovely meal that tastes good and the portions are just nice. I feel that the service is not up to 'restaurant standard" compared to their counterparts right next door and has a more "food court" feel, and as such it's a bit pricey.

We decided on its set meal as it was worth the value than ordering ala carte. Each set meal comes with a main, side dish and drink.

We had Red Milk Tea (Cold) for the drink. There was no selection of sugar level like other famous taiwanese bubble tea stall
. However the sweetness level falls within my expectation, not too sweet and comes with black pearls. Due to the recent incidents on the health benefits of black pearl consumption, they have a notice sticked at the cashier with assurance from their local supplier Phoon Huat (Red Man) that they are suitable for consumption.

Set Meal A
Since Beef Noodle is one of Taiwanese food street snack and also its signature dish, we had ordered Beef Noodle Set (Dry) with a pork Floss and brinja as its side.

Noodles tastes closed to udon - they were fat and not the usual thin noodles we get in a normal bowl of beef noodles. Accompanied by a bowl of soup, it was rich in taste. Beef was tender soft and quite chewy with finely chopped preserved vegetables as garnishing. Brinja was deep fried with each of the pieces coated with a layer of batter. Not too bad with pork floss.
Cost: S$15.90

Set Meal C
Ordered Vermicelli (Mee Sua) with Pig Intestine and comes with Pepper Salt Chicken. Big intestine was braised and well-prepared with no "intestine" smell however I still find that I will prefer Shilin's vermicelli more to this as the former was not as flavourful.

The chicken cubes coated with pepper and salt were deeply fried, every pieces consist meat and not just the crispy crumbs alone.

i was craving for tofu, so this mimics 'smelly tofu' though it's not smelly. The sauce tasted extremely weird, and I think it must have been put out for quite long! The tofu tasted weird too.

I ordered Taiwan's popular pork rice, where fat pork with rice is being served, and Lai lai really brought the original taste back! extremely delicious!!

This was what we ordered, and because it was promotion I can't tell you the exact price of each dish a la carte. Back then it was about $9.80 (First week of june).

Grilled Saba ($3.90++)
This is definitely a must-order at an extremely pocket friendly price! The fish was grilled with a thin layer of teriyaki sauce that made the meat mildly sweet and juicy. The portion was a little small but still worth every dollar paid for.
We left shortly after a quick fuss-free post-lunch bite, finally feeling satisfied

Fried Tofu was crispy outside, but not soft nor smooth, quite dry, don't really like it. It's not really authentic as it tasted much difference from what I had in Taiwan.

Their price was average, waiting time for food was slow, took about 15mins.

Beef Noodles, be it paired with flavourful broth or thick savoury gravy is a must-try, to satisfy my personal craving and not to even mention that they are specialized in this certain dish. The tender and juicy beef chunks is set to take the home-made noodles to another level, alongside with crunchy greens. Impressive indeed.

Most noodles/rice comes with a set meal at approximately S$13.90, which includes a side dish ranging from pig intestine to prawn fritters and a drink. Personally, I like to consume the food in between sips of their signature milk tea w/ pearls.

Beef tendon (S$10.90) is one of my favourite parts, these gelatinous connective tissues that are braised with brown cravy tasted so well together with the mild sweetness of carrots. Ooohh, somehow this dish relieves some memories of the curry beef tendon I had in Hong Kong previously.

There was 2 type to choose from-one is cheese/floss combination while the other is curry chicken. We both had the cheese/floss one as it was our late supper and we don't fancy spicy food.

It took more than 15 mins before our food is served. The spring onion pancake was rolled with egg, floss and cheese. We both felt that the pancake taste similar to roti prata and were rather surprised that the floss tasted more sweet than savoury. Though the whole combination still taste quite well, but we felt that pairing with a savoury floss would be even better.
Addtionally, the pancake was served with a refreshing mayo dressed salad. It helps cut down the oily feeling of the pancake.

When we paid the bill, we were puzzled as both of us were charged with extra $1 for the floss. When we ordered, we did not ask for any extra floss. Apparently, the $6.90++ cheese/floss pancake comes with mandatory floss that one need to pay extra $1. If that is the case, why did they have this combination priced without the floss charge, while only stating below the menu that $1 needs to be topped up if one want any extra floss/cheese/pineapple,etc?

Menu with discrepency. Apprehensive to visit again as the food is rather expensive (just a spring onion pancake cost about $9 after gst and svc).

I always like Japanese Curry. Japanese Curry vary from our normal curry in the sense that it is not too spicy and Japanese curry has some sourness taste in it. This time I ordered Lai Lai’s tempura and chicken cutlet curry rice. it was really awesome. All the meat were deep fried till very crispy. The among of curry is really a lot. More than enough to eat with the rice. I like their rice, is the Japanese sticky kind, very chewy, goes well with the curry.

Do not be deceived by the plain and ordinary presentation of the beef soup noodle. One sip of the soup and I am sure you will be amazed by the nicely blended soup that has a little herbal taste and smell to it. Not forgetting the soft and tender beef slices that can be found in this dish.

The pig trotters tasted great and I would recommend anyone who likes to eat pig trotters to give it a try. The meat was yummy and tender and the sauce was nice.

Here's their special chili that is mixed with fried onions. Although it is yummy and addictive, I still think that it's a bit too oily and unhealthy.

Overall, we enjoyed our dinner tonight. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 as mediocre and 10 as very yummy, I would give tonight's dinner a rating of 6. Although the beef soup noodle, pig trotters and Chocolate Freeze drink were yummy, I still think there's lots of room for improvement for the other dishes.

I ordered the peach freeze from lai lai causal dining. I normally go there and only order their bubble tea but this time round I wanted to try something different. their peach freeze was really good, it had a lot of colourful koniyaku jellies on top. the koniyaku jellies were very chewy and had different flavours. The freeze itself was not too sweet. they even had some pieces of the canned peach on top. I must say the visual appeal is really good.
