This Marche Bakery certainly has attracted my attention over their wide spread of golden brown bread and pastries over at their display counter. Restaurant looks really cosy and comfortable. Service was alright but nothing warm nor super friendly. Have bought their cheese stick at $1 per piece which is consider quite alright. The texture was really thick and abit hard as well. Cheese flavour was quite strong but alittle bit too salty. The portion was alright but could have taste it better

Last month, my friends and I headed to Marche at 313@Somerset for dinner. I have tried their bakery products before but have never realised that they harboured a restaurant downstairs (call me a caveman but I was seriously caught unaware). Regardless Marche is a chain of restaurants serving European, mainly Swiss, cuisine.

When we entered the restaurant at around 7.15-7.30pm, we didn’t had to wait long. We were seated in less than 10 minutes. The restaurant is spacious with several food stations, spanning from salad, drinks, desserts, pasta, and meat stalls. (Which looks quite like a more atas food court that is housed within a restaurant) The restaurant also has stands for collecting your utensils and napkins, quite like a self-serve area.

Each of us were also handed a plastic card that operates quite like a credit card. Want to order something from the stall? Pass them the card and they will record the item ordered. However we chose one card and just make our purchases through that one card.

We ordered a variety of items and since you just have to swipe your card, you cannot really be bothered with the price of each dish ordered.

One can order the swiss rosti with sausage (choose from different sausages) and sour cream or just the rosti itself with the sour cream. We ordered the former and I had high expectations of the rosti having tried it once or twice when I was in Europe previously but it didn’t lived up to it. Sadly. Lucky there is a chicken sausage to add some taste and texture to the rosti. Otherwise even with the sour cream, it’s very unsatisfactory.

Next we ordered half a roasted chicken. This is like one of the nicest chicken I ever had in a long long time. The meat is succulent and so yummy. The huge serving of mashed potato that came at the side is a hit at the table. The sauce, needless to say, is awesome. Loved it! (Wonder if they sell just the mashed potato and the sauce ala carte)

How can you miss pizza when you are having European food! The pizza is not baked using the conventional oven but through a brick oven. NOW HOW COOL IS THAT? We didn’t have to wait at the stall for the pizza. Instead we are passed a small disc which will light up once the pizza’s ready. (Thanks for letting us return to the table to savour our food while waiting for the pizza). This is like one of the best pizzas. The pizza is crusty and baked just right, the toppings brimming with flavour and spicy. Delish!

The paella (the Spanish version of fried rice) is not as fantastic compared to the pizza and roasted chicken. It tasted as if it has been left for quite some time though it’s still warm (on account of it being placed atop on a pot and fried slightly before being served). Still the staff was quite generous with the meats, giving us plenty of prawn and chicken!

Last but not least was the dessert! We were like a bunch of excited school girls when we were gathered at the dessert station. We had the chocolate cake and crepe. Both was okay though. Wish I had ordered a cheesecake from that stall too.

Overall we paid about $32 per person and we were so stuffed that we barely finished the food on the table.

Marche is definitely the place to go if you are looking for a good variety of food. And everyone can easily order what they had like to eat and pay for themselves with their own plastic cards.

Spanish rendition of fried rice, typically traditional Spain dish, there was a lot different with the local one. Colourful rice with tad soft texture, all ingredients put were fresh. I had it along with a drizzle of Lemon, tasted fantastic. Using olive oil, thus it was healthy. The price was approximately $17.00 if I was not mistaken. Lively and happy to dine there, it was worth a return.

Our first order was of course the highly-raved rosti, we had the Swiss Rosti with Sausage & Sour Cream ($14.20). It was not as awesome as I thought it'd be because you can get tired of it after a few mouthful & the sausage was fine. Though it was not bad considering it's still crispy on the top & soft on the bottom, maybe we should have squeezed a slice of lemon.

We also got the Rotisserie Roasted Half Chicken  ($10.90). It was roasted just right because you know how a chicken is cooked perfectly the way you want it when you have no problems separately the meat from the bone. The mashed potato which comes with it is awesome too.

The Spanish Paella with Seafood ($17.40) was not bad but in my opinion, the recipe could be improved. Besides, it's not the best I've tried & it's kind of overprice too.

This is the last for our mains, my friends have ordered the regular sized Prawn with Red Chili Pizza ($15.50). Initially I didn't think that I'd like it because I'm not a fan of chili, but when your expectations are lowered, you may be in for surprises! The balance of the thin crust and topped ingredients are just right such that neither overpowers each other, it was crispy and flavorful. I really like this.

For desserts! We shared among ourselves the Chocolate Cake ($5.60). The chocolate isn't those highly impressive type but for that slice, it was fine.

We also shared the Chocolate Strawberry Crepe ($4-6), I didn't take note of the actual price but this was okay too. It was thin enough & you'll know that they had a smooth batter. It probably wasn't as sinful because of the generous amount of strawberries I guess?

Overall, we paid around $180+ for a pax of 5. Considering the amount of food we ordered & that we've also ordered a couple glass of their Konig Ludwig Weissbier, so the price is okay. Besides, I don't think I can say no to another visit to their beautiful & cosy environment too, so I'm definitely returning again!

Passing the Marché at 313 Somerset, I am tempted by the delicious display of pastries. The Swiss Wahe looks so good that I bought 2 slices. It costs $4.90 a slice. The dark purple colored one is made of plum topping, while the other is made of pear topping. The pear is quite chunky and juicy in pieces. The pie filling is not too sweet. The base is quite soft. Overall the pie is very nice as it is not too sweet and soft.

Strawberry Shortcake with Tea ($6.90++)
Their hi-tea promotion was for one cake item and a cup of coffee/tea. Among the cakes on display, we found their strawberry shortcake to be the most enticing. And thankfully, we made the right choice! The shortcake, with its generous toppings of fresh strawberries, was exceptionally light, soft and fluffy.

Plum Tart ($4.20++)
I must say this is one of the nicest tarts we've tried in a long while. The custard base tart, topped with generous servings of plums, was traditional in taste and flavourful. The crust was soft and refine, crumbling upon the touch of your lips. The zesty taste of the plum coupled with the light custard base was simply marvelous!

Although Marche had always been more of a "main course" restaurant, I'm pleasantly surprised by their high-quality sweets. Do try out their other desserts and you might be smitten by these delectable little treats!

I usually avoid going to marche on a weekend, as there is always a long queue. Whenever I visit Marche, I will never fail to order their signature dish, which is the rosti. It has a nice crispy layer but yet it is soft inside, remember to have it together with sour cream as it give the dish a boost. I added a chicken sausage and it taste good with the rosti, as it is tender and juicy. Overall, I strongly recommend everyone to try the rosti.

Just had my facial across 313 and wanted to have my dinner here. We went to Marche and ordered Oven Roasted chicken, Glossy brown chicken was well marinated, meat was juicy and tender; I like their savory brown sauce as it give the chicken an extra boost in flavor. Rosti with sausage, crispy on the outside, fluffy and starchy on the inside shredded potato topped with sourish sour cream and fragrant spring onions. Salty and crunchy sausage paired off perfectly with the mellow tasting rosti.

I really love the rosti at Marche. However, I find it too oily but I am willing to take in all that oiliness because their rosti taste so yummy. It goes well with a little bit of sour cream at the side. I find the smoked salmon too salty though. However, it complemented well with the lightly-flavoured rosti. They also have a country-like ambience which is very nice.

I visited Marche with some friends for dinner. At the pizza counter there were also these buns which were topped with cheese and other toppings. I had the mushroom cheese one and requested that it be heated up. Hot and fluffy the bun was very satisfying. However do feel it was expensive fr the size costing about three dollars for a mostly plain bun with only a little bit of toppings.

The bakery section of Marche sells really nice breads and buns. I got a garlic bread to pair with my mushroom soup and it was pretty good. There was a generous portion of garlic and butter slathered over the bread and it was really crisp and delicious. Paired with the mushroom and dipped in the hot soup it was even nicer to eat after absorbing the hot soup. Now expensive too at under two dollars.
