Tea Scones ($9)
Apparently they have limited quantity of scones for each day, so be sure to order it fast should your cravings strike. It was served warm with a nice crumbly crust to it. I would have liked it more buttery and with the insides just as crumbly. It passed as an average scone to me, good to satisfy any urgent cravings but probably not the best I've tried so far.

Pacific Benedict ($16)
with Swimmer crab, spinach and shrimp hollandaise

A seafood lover and eggs ben fan, this was an absolute must-try for me when I first saw it on the menu. It caught my eyes immediately with its description and it didn't disappoint me with the generous amount of fresh crab meat that came in chunks hidden underneath the hollandaise sauce. This definitely passed the eggs benny test, with perfect runny yolk that happened too fast for me to capture it on tape.

I felt that the shrimp taste in the hollandaise sauce was a tad overpowering though, masking the taste of the natural crab meat sweetness. It was too fishy in my opinion, when everything was combined together. Next time visiting, I would probably try asking for a change to the normal hollandaise sauce just to have a taste of the blend. Also, what would have added a more delightful touch to it would be a more toasted bread to add to that extra crunch amidst the runny eggs and sauce!

Nonetheless, this was a satisfying dish for me, with a very refreshing twist to the usual eggs benedict that I've tried.

Death by Chocolate Cake ($12)

What an apt name for the dessert, we really felt the effects setting in by the time we finished about half the cake. With hot fudge drizzled generously over the slice of chocolate cake, topped with vanilla ice cream, it was heavenly at first bite. And soon, the chocolate got into our system and numbed our taste buds, giving the extremely 'jelat' feeling. By the time we gave up, we were probably getting into a food-a-tose, with a bloating belly and satisfied stomach.

The 3 of us found it a little difficult finishing (after an eggs meal each and a scone), so it might probably be perfect sharing item for 4 persons.

The place was very dark, it will be better if they have a small light for the menu and the friends and i were struggling with the light on our mobile.

I ordered the creamy risotto with seared Hokkaido scallops, Broccolini and truffle oil. Ordered their dessert degustation too. Needless to say, the dessert needs to be served first. They had a homemade panna cotta, expresso and i cant remember what was the other.

I have to rave about their panna cotta. Its probably the best i've eaten so far in Singapore. Wanted to take away their panna cotta but the boss told me that it wont be able to survive the ride home. But then again, after having their risotto, i dont think i have had any better ones elsewhere.

Riders cafe risotto is consistent despite the crowd.

Riders Cafe is rather inaccessible and not very convenient if one does not drive. Reservations are also recommended as queue tends to be long during weekends. Having tried epicurious, i wanted to try the eggs benedict from the much raved about Riders Cafe. Portion was quite large, but I didn't like the bread that the eggs rested on; too tough for my liking. Nothing special about the fries and greens either. Hollandaise sauce on the poached eggs was also not impressive.

Decided to drop by at the stables to ride my own horse (yea I own an entire stable) and try the Riders Cafe that is much raved about. We came here on a full stomach so only had room for desserts. And so we tried Death by Chocolate Cake. The only death we are gonna experience is probably from artery congestion. There's like so much chocolate sauce over the entire cake (which is rather moist). The sponge portions were generously rich and dense with lots of fudge over it. Wonderful.

And, occasionally you'll get to enjoy the smell of dungs. (I smelled it the moment I got off the car, and while I was eating, there was a time when the smell was pretty strong *puke*)

I highly recommend this smoothie - felt like I was drinking some health potion which immediately got me going "OOOH"
according to the menu, it consists of orange juice, banana, berries, yoghurt and honey.

Since we didn't make any reservations, the waiter said that we had to wait for at least 30 minutes to get a table. We didn't really have the energy to walk anymore so we just said yes and took a seat in their waiting couch.

I think it was only less then 30 minutes when the waiter said that a table was waiting for us. We were then ushered to our seats which were on the side of the stables. From here, we could smell dog food coming from the stables (I think). Well, at least it wasn't dung or it wouldve ruined our appetites.

Anyway, I ordered the Blackstone Benedict with Bacon, Tomatoes, Poached Eggs, and Hollandaise on Sourdough. They were quite efficient with the time, order was served in less than 15 minutes. Hmm.

The bacon was drenched in sauce, I didn't really get to taste it anymore. I did enjoy the poached eggs, though. As soon as I sliced it with my knife, the egg yolk oozed out so smoothly. =D

Boyfriend's : Pacific Benedict with swimmer crabs, poached eggs, spinach, & shrimp hollandaise $16

I ordered a pot of Earl Grey Classic Tea $5.50

Sub-Total: $14 + $16 + $5.50 = $35.50
Svc Charge: $3.55
GST: $2.73
Total: $41.80

Food was not as good as I expected? It would be better.
I had tried better brunch though.
The Earl Grey Tea was not to my liking too.
But it's worth to try. And get a cab in please.

Woke up early for Breakfast at Riders cafe. I had their pancake. It was pretty yummy. The pancakes are all fluffy and soft. The entire dish is accompanied by margarine, blueberry jam, whipped cream and maple syrup. Looked and taste great. I also had a glass of ice chocolate. It wasn't so great. Not the usual thick chocolate drink i would think of. This tasted somewhat like milo though.

She chose Riders Cafe at Bukit Timah since its far and she has the car for the day since she's sharing with her brother
She said that Riders Cafe serves very nice breakfast hence we decide to proceed there to have brunch
We got there at nearly 12 plus and its quite a bright sunny day! However it somehow dampens our spirit when we were told to wait for at least half and hr!
But no choice we waited since we were there already and specifically there for Riders Cafe
Anyway the scenery's real nice so we took many photos while waiting! We got our seats at around one plus, more than half and hr as they said they have to clear tables?
Hmm, anyway the food's really not bad so i guess it's worthwhile~ Me and hazel the other friend ordered the blackstone egg benedict while Ming had the Usual (poached). Seriously when the food came i think hers look so much better than ours as she had the sausage and mushrooms and ours the greens
somemore hers look exactly or even better after we asked for the same sauce as ours to pour on hers. Anyway i still love mine and i kop mushrooms from her to decorate my dish
The sauce is real tangerine tasting and i love the sourdough bread, very soft! All in all, mine's $15 not including the GST and svc charge so i guess its alright
And next time im having the usual or something else

This fried fish from the look of it as you can see, is rather hard to cut through which means its not nice. although the presentation is nice. however the inside of the fish, minus the skin is soft. my advice is to order the salmon instead. On the upside, there are horses located beside the cafe for diners to see while having their meal. This is one of their specialties which draws the crowd in.

A happy occasion should, without fail, be accompanied by good food, and dearest people. Happy occasion – passing out from BMT – check; Dearest people – my family – check; Good food – we took a gamble at Riders Cafe – check.

Here we are, at the non-air-conditioned Riders Cafe.

It was a spot-on day to get to Riders Cafe. Like how people like to visit countries during autumn, I’d think most would prefer visiting this kind of non-air-conditioned cafe on a windy, just-before-it-rains kind of day. Just when you thought it couldn’t get better, it does. We were, fortunately, assigned a balcony seat. There, not only can you feel the waves of breeze better, you can see black, brown, white horses taking a stroll around the area just diagonally below you. I felt like I was teleported to a countryside in a far far away country where no men live. It was calming with the ambience and setting, not to mention, I love how horses look so cute even with their build.

To compliment the soothing environment you’d have gotten upon stepping into the cafe, the service crew was really approachable and hospitable. It somehow makes you fit in more (I say that because, most of the people dining there are either rich asses, at least they look like they are, or they live around that area and are frequents). Now let’s shift the spotlight to the main point – food.

Bacon & Tomato (With Poached Eggs On Sourdough) :: I didn’t try this – my dad did. He said that the eggs are pretty good. But from what I see, it isn’t worth the money. There are only, well, bacon, tomato, sourdough and eggs. lol. Bacon’s overly crispy, and you can only taste the butter somewhere in the middle of the sourdough. The sides are hard.

‘The Usual’ :: This set of breakfast includes, well, the usual. lol. Crispy/Smoked bacon, poached/fried/scrambled egg, banger (sausage), basil tomato, mushroom, and sourdough. Basically, more or less the good ol’ English breakfast. The scrambled egg, for me, is better than most that I’ve tried, although it really isn’t very good, even. The bacon, once again, disappoints. Nothing, so far, matches up to that of Sydney, Australia’s well-cooked streaks of bacon. Over here, it is way too crispy/hard, and, eeky. The banger was pretty average. The only item that is excellent is the basil tomato. It’s the best I’ve had. Mushroom is a little below average (if you’re the kind who goes for the raw taste and smell of mushroom, then this might fail you a little). With that, you can infer that it’s, once more, not value for money.

Hot Chocolate :: When I saw that it only costs the above stated price, I ordered it without a second thought. lol. And the relatively lower-priced hot chocolate doesn’t mean that the standard is compromised. Because that didn’t happen. It actually tastes fine, topped with small cubes of marshmallows. Definitely acceptable.

My mum got herself the Chamomile Flowers Tea. I tried it, and I must say it smells and tastes really refreshing. It’s pleasant-smelling. But I really don’t know about tea. Its presentation is really good. Just showing the picture. lol.

I’d have rated this 1 star (✰) instead of 2 (✰✰) if not for its setting and surrounding. The horses. The countryside setting (oh – a couple was having their wedding photos taken while we were there). It’s a really different experience – worth trying just once. Bring a book along too, maybe, if you have the time.

—> NOTE #1: If you are not driving there, don’t try going in with public transport (except cabs). I don’t remember seeing any bus stops nearby – plus, you’d have to walk quite a distance deep into Fairways Drive.

—> NOTE #2: Make a reservation before you go! We almost had to wait a long time for our table. You can maybe request for balcony seating too (if you’d like to see horse trotting around while you’re enjoying your meal).

—> NOTE #3: Payment is made at your table – you don’t have to go to the counter for that, even though the cafe looks like they utilize the self-service payment-at-the-counter system.

Excellent experience at Riders Cafe. I didnt feel like I was in Singapore because there were alot of caucasians around. Very westernized feeling. The food was super super good! We ordered the "The Usual" due to the wide variety of food involved, which made it a value for money. There was a generous serving of mushrooms which was done just right, perfect! The scrambled eggs were god too! Neither too oily nor salty. Overall, I love the setting of the Cafe. Not air conditioned but it was not stuffy
