There's an ongoing Scallop feast promo but we decided to eat something else from the main menu. I had the Chicken Katsu Supreme set $22.50++ which consist of Chicken katsu, Pork tenderloin & Ebi fry. All set meals are served with free flow cabbage, steam rice, miso soup, pickle, appetizer and dessert.

Both the chicken katsu and pork katsu were very nicely done with light and crispy crust and tender juicy meat center. The ebi was fresh and succulent, a really delish set meal, living up to the eatery's reputation.

Matcha ice cream

The accompanying soup, pickle, appetizer and dessert were all pretty yummy too. The free flow raw cabbage was fresh and crunchy, giving a good balance to the fried items in the meal.

Hubby had the Salmon Variety set $23++ which consist of Salmon katsu, Asparagus cheese roll and Crab cream croquette.

The salmon was fresh and cooked just right, meat remains moist and tender despite the frying process. Hubby was also very happy with the creamy croquette and cheesy asparagus roll too.

We had an enjoyable dinner at Saboten. Food was good and reasonably priced, and service was prompt and polite. We'll definitely dine at Saboten again, but probably would choose an outlet in town area as the airport is out of the way for us.

This Irodori combo meal ($28) was interesting, you get to choose a combination of katsu that goes into your plate. My choice was: main dish - mentai tenderloin, sub-side dish - asparagus cheese roll, side-dishes - ratatouille katsu and mini cheese katsu. Among these, my personal favorite was the ratatouille one. Yum yum.

This was Irodori curry ($23). The breadcrumbs outside the katsu was fried to perfect crisp while the meat remained tender juicy in the inside. The curry gravy was fine. I am a spicy food lover so this sweet curry barely tickled our tongues. It tasted good nonetheless.

The shredded cabbage was served free flow. It can be enjoyed with yuzu dressing or sesame dressing. We love shredded cabbage, and it is not surprising if you see any one of us alone finishing off this gigantic bowl of cabbage. It was so refreshing, especially after eating the katsu, it kind of cleansed our tongue from the oiliness.

My verdict? I think the food tasted great, I won't hesitate to come back for their wonderful katsu. However, service-wise, we thought there are still rooms for improvement.

Recently there is a groupon deal for Saboten and we decide to use it at the changi airport outlet before our flight. We have the Twin Special Set ($48++) to share. It comes with the free flow shredded cabbage, rice, soup, side dishes and the following :
2 Breaded Shrimp
1 Breaded Pork Loin (M)
2 Crab Cream Croquette
1 Asparagus Cheese Roll
Radish Ponzu Dipping

As we are dining-in in the late afternoon, there is not much people in the restaurant. There is also free flow of green tea served free of charge. As there is 4 of us and the set which we have ordered is for 2 paxs, the staff reminds us if we need additional bowls of rice and shredded cabbage, it will be chargeable. It seems misleading as it also noted on the menu that rice and shredded cabbage is free flow.

The serving is huge and is quite filling for us. Of the deep fried items, I like the breaded pork loin as it tastes very crispy even when cool. Inside it is quite tender. Overall the food is not bad, service is quite fast too.

A small bowl of sesame was first served, given a wooden stick also. We had to grind the seeds ourselves, scoop the sauce into the bowl and mix it up. Then it became a perfect dip for our main dish. Very fun, it was my first time to touch this kind of culture.

Fundamentally nice taste with the melted cheese wrapped within crispy Katsu, the mixture was moist while not overly greasy. Crisp fluffy, I can even listen the crunchy voice. Having to say, I was satisfied the food here and they were reasonably-priced.

We are served hot tea which is free flow and is refilled often. We are served shredded cabbage and premium black and white sesame seeds.

I am having Ebi Katsu Variety Set which costs $21++. It is consists of ebi katsu, asparagus cheese roll and crab cream croquette. The asparagus cheese roll is very tasty with the liquid cheese filling inside. The croquette tastes very creamy inside. The miso soup that served with it is full of bean curd puff and seaweed and tastes flavourful.

My friend is having the Chicken Katsu Curry ($21++) which is breaded chicken cutlet with curry sauce over rice. The chicken cutlet is very tender and crispy. The curry sauce is not spicy but tastes very smooth.

Overall it is very delicious meal. And great service too.

Here are the orders that we made on that day:-

As usual practice, we had japanese hot green tea to pair with japanese cuisine. It is a well combination. There is no charges for japanese green tea.
All set meals come with free side dish and the cabbage are unlimited.Slices of fresh cabbage was served and it tasted really good with the sauce. Cabbages were shredded to such a delicate thinness is perfect to soak with ponzu vinaigrette.

Every place setting includes a mortar and pestle filled with black and white sesame seeds. Grinding the sesame into a fine powder with self-added serving portion of tonkatsu sauce gives the customers to be interactive with their foods.

Salmon Katsu set @S$20.00. Salmon katsu taste crunchier and smooth in the inside. The set is quite filling with the portion served. Surprisingly the salmon texture isn't dry at all.

Ebi Katsu Tenderloin @ S$26.00. Deep-fried breaded prawn taste like usual tempura. The difference is the outer is more crunchier to bite. The overall set is quite filling with the combination of the tenderloin meat is served in the set.

Tenderloin Katsu set @S$22.00. The pork cutlet is served with golden fried crisp. It's crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It was fried with minimal grease oil and I don't really feel guilty to have it. I also enjoyed the crunchy panko breading on the outside. The tenderloin meat wasn't too dry at all. Dip it with the tonkatsu sauce gives me the sweetness taste of the meat.

All sets comes with a scoop of green tea ice-cream to end the dinner.Total bill S$109.45 inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% GST. Dinning experience was pleasant. The set comes with unlimited Japanese rice. Justin and YL had second round for it. I personally think it is quite a bargain though. The staffs are quite attentive to the customers' needs. They refill our green tea promptly and the serving timing is within 20 minutes. I would say the overall standard of the food quality is good. If I craved for tonkatsu foods, I will consider to pay a visit here.

Saboten offers good fried Japanese food like for example Tonkatsu. I had the fried pork cutlet which was considerably good. The fried pork cutlet is fried till crispy brown and the placed on a metallic platter to let the oil drip out. It was also rather juicy and tender. If you like fried stuff, then this is a must-try. The portions were somewhat small but with rice, you can surely be full. The fried prawn tempura was also good and tasty.

Prices are reasonable and you can get a discount if you are Changi Rewards card holder.

The only improvement that I hope to see is the service level of this restaurant. At times, I've difficulty getting the attention of the waiters/waitresses to place my order or ask for cabbage refill. Maybe it has something to do with the high backrest of the benches or the shortage of waiters/waitresses.

Overall, my family enjoys the food here.

Had tried Saboten while waiting for my parent to fetch me in the airport! This is my first time trying Saboten and it really taste great! I like the slice of fried pork! It is tender and soft at the same time, it is juicy too! The best part is that although it is fried but it was amazingly not oily at all. However, i recommended to share it with a friend and the portion is slightly too big! For the price wise, i think is still acceptable as it was located in the airport!

My friend ordered tanuki udon S$8.00 for breakfast choice. She said the udon texture is Q and the soup base is nice as well. The udon serves with agedama which provides the udon more flavoring. It comes with the free flow green tea.

The staffs are friendly and approachable. They are prompt to refill our green tea as well.
The restaurant environment is nice and comfortable.

For the sauce, you will have to grind the sesame on your own, and pour the sauce in it, which you could then dip your deep-fried pork loin in it.
