There is live band on certain days apparently. The usual nostalgic decorations of antique items are still around. On top of that, there seems to be a steamboat option now, available from 6pm onward from Mon to Sat, and on Sun from 1pm onward. Anyway we gladly took a seat near it. Ordered the signature chix curry and tom yum spaghetti seafood. Both the signature dish standard did not disappoint. Though i wish the portion to be a little more. The bread went well with the curry gravy which is thick and flavorful. The pasta was on the spicy side and feels like dry version of a laksa. The bill adds up to be $43.20.

ood Stuffed Sailing Boat $8.90. Don't really see much seafood in it, except for prawns?? Something like baked potato with prawn as topping, some bits of mushrooms. Tasted ok, though you can grew sick of eating it.

Nonya Assam Prawn with Pineapple $8.90. Their prawns and big, but not as crunchy as I wanted it to be. Assam sauce is not too sour, just nice for me
Neither is it too spicy

Steam Sia Nonya Curry Chicken $12.90. They also have it for serving 2 pax at a price of $20.90. Curry looks spicy, but it is ok. For average-spicy takers, this should not be a problem. They have tomatoes in the curry, thus, I think this emits a little sweetness to the curry, lowering the spiciness in some way. Their bread is soft to pull apart and chew, making my meal less energy intensive!

They also have 3 corners which I think are quite cosy, more to having a little more private space. Do read my blog for the illustrations!

The food generally is quite nice and the place is definitely good for catching up with friends. I will definitely pop by again if I have the chance.

I was recommended by a friend to check out the food at Steam Sia and I gotta say it's a worthwhile visit. Firstly, you gotta love the retro 80's feel of the decoration. I tried a couple of dishes that night. Firstly was their signature Nonya Curry Chicken dish. The curry was thick and savory. It had a lovely bite of heat balanced with sweetness and was absolutely sumptuous when sopped up with the thick crusty bread. My mouth is drooling just thinking of it. The chicken meat was tender and practically falling off the bone. I also love their presentation using the pot. The portion was on the small side, but that just gives us more room to order more.

Next item I tried was the Poached Salmon with Fruit Salsa. The warm salmon was salty and cooked just about right, and when paired with the sweet fruit salsa, it was a flavor party in my mouth. It was a nice twist to what could be a plain ol' salmon.

Not an impressive spread but a nice touch to keep the diners munching while waiting for the food to be served. Wanted to try their nyonya curry which i saw in some of the photos here and was advised serving for 1 comes in a bowl and not the pot. Looking at the picture, the pot looks very tempting and i ordered that. The food was presented nicely in those old school metal pot, served on a wooden block with french load as a side. Thumbs up for presentation. When i open the pot, i was kind of disappointed as the amount serve differed quite a little from the menu picture with only half filled instead of the 3/4 filled in the menu picture.

Well i guess that happens in most restaurants also
. The curry chicken was nyonya style, cooked with potato and tomato. Its simple and straightforward , thick version of curry with spicy level definitely at a very friendly level. I also noticed they dun really serve it with any condiments like soy sauce or chilli, it may be a better option to do so in case customers would like a more enhanced flavor and could do so. But i must the curry gravy on its own lives up to its name as a signature dish, fragrant and making you want more. The french loaf that came with the set surprised me quite a bit, it was pretty good, i think they lightly toasted it again before serving, and it went so well by dipping it with the nyonya curry. In fact i feel the bread kind of stolen a little show off the curry hahaha.

Overall a fantastic eat but amount served could be improved. If the volume of pot of curry increases , i think i may just become a regular here. Anyway if i would to come again, maybe i will try the tom yum spaghetti which is supposedly another signature dish.

We really loved the whole look and feel of the place!

As for the food, we get to try the Tom Yum Spaghetti with Seafood and Nonya Chicken Curry. Being a fan for Thai food ourselves, these two dishes had us digging in for more than our shares. You can taste the creaminess of Steam Sia's Tom Yum Spaghetti with it's signature sour-spicy taste. Nonya Chicken Curry (with potatoes and carrots served with bread) is indeed one of their MUST-TRY dishes. The chicken is cooked thoroughly well and you can really taste and smell the curry spice as you chew. One bite will never be not enough! It's spiciness will literally make you hunger for more.

And of course for the dessert, we get to try their Chocolate Fondant. It has a rich chocolate taste but not too sweet (which all of us prefer) is just right to satisfy our sweet tooth!

We had a really great time at Steam Sia. Good food, great childhood displays and memories. Just like the good old times. This will indeed be another great food adventure to remember!

Nevertheless, I will recommend one to visit this restaurant as I think that the food is quite good. There is also huge variety. Personally, I like the curry chicken and the pasta. The curry chicken is thick and flavourful and hence, goes very well with the bread. The pasta is also very tasty and the chef is quite generous with the ingredients.

Impressed by the efforts the restaurant spent in decorating their interior and also slightly famished from our long shopping day, we decided to give it a try and have our dinner there. As we looked through their menu, we realised that they served chinese food, western food, starters, salads and dessert. Although some of the food looks really tempting to order, we decided to order 2 sets of Nasi Goreng Istimewa as it was one of the slightly more affordable dish as we do not want to spend too much at a new restaurant until we had ascertain how's the taste of their cooking was like. 1 set of Nasi Goreng Istimewa cost $8.90 and consist of prawn, chicken wing, achar and rice.

Here's how it looks like:

When the food was served to us, our first impression was that the serving size seem little, considering that it cost us $8.90 per set. However when I savored my first taste of the rice, what strike me was the strong and yummy fragrance of fried rice that smelled and tasted heavenly. I am not sure if the leaf at the bottom of the plate helps to bring out the fragrance of the fried rice or it is merely a decoration item. I must admit that all my negative feelings that arose from the initial impression of the small serving portion instantly dissipated as I happily tucked into my meal and forgive the restaurant for giving such a small portion to us. To me, if the food taste great although the serving portion is little, I am still able to accept it. I rather eat food that tasted great but in small portions that food that tasted mediocre but in huge portions.

The chicken wing, sitting innocuously at a corner of my plate, seem so "normal". But I was deeply wrong when I sank my teeth and took my first bite at my chicken wing. I am unsure how to describe the taste as it is an intricate mixture of some herb taste with some saltiness with some other taste that I could not recognized at that moment. But all in all, I certainly liked how the chicken wing was cooked.

For the achar, it tasted normal. Besides, I am not a strong fan of achar. The 2 sambal prawns tasted normal too, nothing special about it.

As for the ambiance of the restaurant, other than the nicely decorated vintage items, it could have been better if the restaurant can play some vintage music, to add to the mood.

Would I visit this restaurant to eat for a second time? Maybe yes, maybe no. For yes, it would be because the item we ordered tasted great, so we assumed the rest of the food available in their menu should taste equally as great too. As for no, it would be attributed to their small serving portion. Both my friend and I still felt hungry after we finished our meal but we decided not to order another dish, fearing that the portion size will be small again. Instead, we opted to fill our stomach at another eatery nearby.

For the prices that they charged for normal food like curry chicken, Assam fish, fish and chips, salmon etc, if they increase the serving portion size by a little bit, I will certainly return on another day to try out their other dishes found in the menu. But given the small portion served, this will be a likely factor we will consider if we are looking to have a filling meal. But if we are looking to have a yummy meal that tasted great, this would definitely be one of the places that I will recommend to my friends, if their goal is to enjoy tasting great yummy food.

The seats were really nicely done up along with the tables which reminded me of some coffee shops when i was really young. Wooden chairs and marble top tables i think.

As for the food, i had a taste of the Nonya Chicken Curry. I mean c'mon, i don't really find this much in other food stalls. Its not too mild but at the same time it ain't that spicy either. It was served with a french loaf that was nice and soft and it was very complemented with each other.

Apart from that, i tried out the salmon with the mashed potatoes. Now this is a superb dish, coming from a person that doesn't eat as much salmon. It had a fresh and juicy taste to the palette. The mash potatoes was average but i wasnt complaining.

The plating of the dishes were served in a very homely feel. It was the ol school plates, very traditional. The portions are worth for that prices. You can rarely find this kinds of concepts these days. This is really what makes Steam Sia very different. I like to taste, I love the concept and i will go back there anytime

Succulent poached salmon, juicy and moist. Skin was crunchy, crispy and full of taste. All on top a side of mashed potatoes interestingly jacked with herbs of some sort. Had a pleasing salty tinge to it...
