This creation intends to instill a nostalgic feel in us to remind us
of the olden Singapore days where vendors would sell ice cream in a
folded multi-colored bread. Even though we may still get to see them around nowadays at parks or orchard, I believe soon such scenes will become history.

The Durian Cappucino cake was another version of Tiramisu in my opinion just that the Mascapone cream cheese was replaced by the creamy durian. It was introduced into the menu since 2011 and still staying on the dessert menu. Containing a strong hit of espresso with its spongy and creamy richness from the durian filling, Espresso and Durian Lover, this is your take.

Finally, the legendary Durian Mousse Cake that kick start the Durian Fiesta Promotion since 1983. The pale yellow piece of cake was a real indulgent. Alternating between the layers of sponge cake and Durian Mousse I would say they complemented each other well. To add on, it has a strong hit of Durian Perfume and with its pulpy fills, it did make me drools once more. Strongly recommended for serious Durian Lover.

As Durian Buffet is only available during Lunch and Dinner timing over a limited period, it's very hard to get a seat if you walk in. Goodwood Park has a system that allows customer to reserve seats at the coffee lounge base on its availability and no. of pax which I find it very useful for patrons like us. To avoid any disappointment it is best to do a reservation if you want to dine in.

Greedy us opted for the Taiwan Porridge buffet with the Durian Dessert buffet option. The Taiwanese porridge at Goodwood Park have been an all-time-favorite for decades, and I've finally got the opportunity to savor it, together with my fave durian pastries!

The porridge buffet menu includes unlimited order of Sweet potato porridge, and an ala carte selection of 31 Savory dishes to go with it. We ordered over 10+ items from the 8 different categories, and really stuffed ourselves silly with yummy food.

All of the dishes were very good, my personal fave are the crunchy and refreshing Bamboo shoots, crispy Pomfret fish, the fresh and mildly spicy Prawns, sweet and crispy Baby squid and the flavorful bite-size Prawn paste chicken. There are several dishes that I'm still keen to try but couldn't make space in my stomach anymore.

And so, we made our way to the Dessert buffet station and check things out.

In addition to the usual dessert spread, 7 Durian creations are available;

- D24 Durian Ice Cream w/ Rainbow Bread (one serving per guest, or ala carte at $7.50++ per serving)

- Durian Macaron

- Mini Durian Chocolate Wafer Roll

- Durian Cappuccino Cake

- Durian Mousse Cake

- Durian Puffs

- Live station á la minute Durian Pancakes

As I'm already feeling quite full, I only took the 6 durian pastries from the buffet station, and ordered the last item through the waiting staffs.

Durian Ice Cream w/ Rainbow Bread

My fave items were the Durian Pancake, Chocolate Wafer Roll, Durian Cappuccino Cake and the Macarons. The Durian Mousse Cake and the Durian Puffs which weren't chilled anymore, tasted quite disgusting. That is not the case if I buy them frozen from the Deli, and kept them fresh in the freezer. I'm also a little disappointed with the Durian Ice Cream w/ Rainbow Bread, the colorful bread was really dry and we ended up only eating the ice cream which was very delicious.

The Durian Fiesta doesn't just end here, well at least not for me. I bought more durian goodies from the Deli (the bakery beside the main lobby), and took advantage of my UOB credit card's 15% discount. Some of the items were bought earlier, but I shall share all of them here.

The 20pcs Durian puffs are a must buy for me every year (they have a temp. kiosk at Compass Point yearly). The puffs are one of the best in town, with durian cream filling of at least 1 inch thick, and it's always satisfying to have them with warm beverages. The Macarons are new creation for this year, the chocolate shells matches the durian center perfectly, but they're quite sweet though. And lastly, the photogenic Durian Rainbow Ice Cream Cakes tasted as excellent as they looked.

Although a tad pricey, I feel they are an occasional indulgence I have no qualms about paying for once a year.

Gluttony us went for the a la carte buffet ($39++ per adult, $19.50++ per child), which also includes a dessert buffet. I’ll start with the must-try savory dishes….
The first wave of food arrived- Taiwan Sausage, Shredded Bamboo Shoots andWok-fried Beef with Black Pepper. The sausages were juicy and chewy, but a tad too salty for my preference. My favorite savory plate that night was the Bamboo Shoots, coated with chilli oil which added an interesting dimension to mellow vegetable. We enjoyed the tender black pepper beef very much too.
Salted fish with Salted Egg, Muy Choy with Pork, Fried Omelette with Chye Poh and Braised Pork Belly with Dark Soy Sauce should never be absent when having porridge! Mention-worthy is the omelette, which stole our hearts with its light, fluffy texture and intense bursts of flavor from the chye poh.
Like popping popcorns, I just can’t stop myself from having more Fried Chicken with Prawn Paste. Bite into the crispy skin and savour the well-marinated meat!
Everyone knows that humans have another stomach for desserts! Although the offerings are limited and some cakes not particularly thrilling, my sweet tooth was nonetheless satisfied by a couple of exceptional desserts.
Elegant and captivating, the Lychee Charlotte consist of subtly sweet moist sponge layers. The creamy and dense Cheesecake was another highlight; I couldn’t help myself from having seconds.

The buffet comes with dessert at the dessert bar to our surprise. We had a good time trying the desserts. The ice-creams had unique favours, unlike other buffets. Espresso Ice-cream was my favourite. The green bean soup with the coconut was nice too, except it was too cold. Perhaps the management could try to fix a burner under it to warm it.

With the cosy ambience and quality of good food, it is worth going again.

Signature durian puff

This was a simple, honest offering of the classic durian puff. The serving of the rich, creamy durian flesh in each puff was generous and plenty, leaving the puff 'gapping' open. The king of fruit is no joke when it came to flavours, with a touch of mild sweetness to please. Some might find it pungent and appalling but for us, it was divinely delicious. We enjoyed the fact that the creaminess of the puff was owed to the good quality durian flesh used and not from the addition of cream. While it could be pretty filling, especially the plenty of fibre in the durian flesh, it was pleasing on the palate rather than satiating on the appetite. The puff pastry on the other hand felt like pre-made shells and not as fresh and crusty like those freshly made cream puffs one would enjoy elsewhere. It seemed too 'airy', hollow and did not have a solid crust and crispness to the texture. There was also very little butter flavour and taste to the puff to make it a good pastry on the whole but the limelight was nonetheless that beautiful durian fruit.

I would not go on further to rave about the durian flesh and cream for they were the same ones used universally across the various durian pastries, apart from the one for pancake but we will go onto that later. I liked the size of the tartlet, making it bite-sized, but I struggled to taste the flavours of the hazelnuts for the generous portion and flavours of the durian flesh overwhelmed. The chopped up hazelnuts contributed to the crunchy texture of the mouthful while the tartlet was again mediocre.

Alternating between layers of sponge and durian mousse, the creaminess from the durian mousse complemented the sponge cake to make it a good combination. The durian mousse was almost melt in your mouth and the sponge cake was soft and moist. It was a classic example of a simple cake made illustrious due to good quality ingredients. It was a shame though that Coffee Lounge stopped bringing out new cakes to replace the finished tray at the buffet bench even 20 minutes before the end of the service.

Durian Pandan & Coconut Cake

Personally I enjoyed this cake the most amongst the offering of durian desserts at the buffet. The layer of coconut shavings atop a rich cream gave the cake a beautiful texture with an added crunchiness to the smooth and moist cake. While some might argue that finer shavings would do the cake better justice, I actually enjoyed the coarse shavings which defined the varied texture prominently. The alternating layers of sponge and mousse was similar to the durian mousse cake only this had a fragrant pandan sponge cake. It tasted very South-East Asian with a nice blend of durian aroma complemented with the enticing fragrance of pandan and the coconut shavings were really the icing on the cake to sum up a good dessert.

Durian Cupcake

The cupcake was plainly butter and just had a topping of the durian paste that had a tinge of pandan flavour so it, with a slice of almond flake. For some reason, it tasted like 'kaya' to us probably cos of the infused pandan. This I suppose was meant to be the usual frosted icing on cupcakes. Regrettably, the cupcake on its own tasted dry. Well the best verdict is probably we did not quite felt like getting a second serving of the cupcake after the first try.

The durian pancakes were freshly made on the spot by the chef at the counter so it was as fresh as one could possibly ask for! We also tasted that the durian flesh used was slightly different in a good sense, with a good balance of sweet bitterness from the durians. This tasted more like 'Mao Shan Wang' premium durian. The pancakes were thin and very soft on the inside with a slight crisp. The filling was generously applied to the extent that it was almost spilling out of the pancake when we tried to savour it!

Quite frankly, the rest of the items on the dessert bar apart from the durian pastries were mostly of mediocre standards and we struggled to finish them. What we found surprisingly familiar was their offering of traditional nyonya kueh, which looked and tasted like they were catered by Bengawan Solo.

I am not going to rate the respective desserts individually for in our humble opinion, they were not really worth the calories and the limelight for the dessert buffet was really the durian pastries. The offering of the dessert buffet was actually quite limited, though local favourites like pulut hitam or even the mango pomelo sago were on the bench. When we saw the ice cream counter, we thought there might be durian ice cream but to our disappointment, only the familiar strawberry and couple other normal ice creams were available. The speciality durian ice cream was only available on the ala carte menu which was not included in the price paid for. In general, we felt that at about S$40 per person, it might be better off for you to head few steps down the alleyway and buy some of the durian pastries from the takeaway bar. With just 6 types of durian desserts offering and not all of them being 'MUST-TRYs', it might be more value for money to just buy the selected desserts on its own as ala carte.

The durian strudel as a whole at S$56+ and the signature 'Mao Shan Wang' Power Puff at S$16.80+ were but some of the more enticing offerings which we would return for takeaway orders but I believe it might be our last visit for the dessert buffet.

The best thing is they have steamed peanuts which is my favourite sidedish! It's a great combination with this porridge which is light and soft, not my favourite, i prefer congee-style but remembering the times where i was younger and my mother told me that apparently watery porridge is healthier or something. i'd prefer if they had some brown rice porridge. the style is quite similar to taiwan where its' in smaller portions but you get to eat a wide variety of food.

its a quality lunch definitely, and pricey too. apparently its the 5 most popular dishes from taiwan mixed with porridge but i didn't know that or heard of it when i was in taiwan.. so.....

Since there are so many dishes that i have tried, and i really wish to share the pictures with other readers, so i have pasted the URL to the pictures for viewing purpose.

Anyway for the price that i have paid for the meal, is consider a little expensive just for porridge alone. but it will be a good place if you are willingly to pay for good food. =)
remember to skip your breakfast so that you can eat more when you are here!

They offer at least two kind of cooking methods to each kind of meat/vegetables.

The Coffee Lounge has really awesome durian ice cream! Easily th best I ever had so far. You are able to instantly taste the sweetness of the durian in the ice cream. This is totally heavenly. The ice cream’s texture is smooth, thick and you know that the durian is of quality, really awesome! There are even durian bits in the ice cream, allowing you to bite on them. GREAT ICE CREAM!

I always love this time of the year, it is the mooncake season. everywhere you go, there will be booths set up. but for me, i am a goodwood park hotel mooncake fan. every year without fail, my dad would drop me and my mum outside the hotel, we will head in to buy their delicious mooncakes. my sister and i are snowskin fans, so my parents will always buy their snowskin mooncake. i bought two pieces of lychee lime marshmellow mooncake and finish it by myself. i know it was fattening, but after try

This is my second year to receive Goodwood Park hotel’s baked mooncake. A friend of mine specially bought for me as she knew I loved it. I was overjoyed when she handed this box to me yesterday, it was really touching and thankful for her kindness.

I couldn’t wait longer to have a taste of it. A taste!?! I ate it for my dinner last night, yes, one whole piece, it should be a BIG taste to be frank! Creamy smooth lotus seed paste filling, not so sweet or oily, both yokes have the right amount of oil in the centre, the baked skin has a caramel flavour. It does an indulgence for once a year.
