This stall has been around for about 10 years. It used to be together in the same shop as the dessert shop. But due to good business, it has since moved next door to setup its own shop. It is thoughtful for the staff to pack the gravy separate from the noodle to maintain the firmness of the noodle. The gravy tastes quite thick without been too jetal. The chilli sauce for the other hand is a bit too salty for me. Overall it tastes not bad.

This laksa stall has been around for a long time. I got to know of this stall when I was in Secondary school which was more than 15 years ago. With no shop name except the word 'Laksa', this stall gained a following through word of mouth among those in the north (Yishun). Gradually this laksa stall became known as '928 Yishun Laksa' as the stall is located under Blk 928 in Yishun. There are 2 shops side by side. Both sells laksa and desserts. The one which I am writing about in this post, is the one on the right (circled in red).

There's always a perpetual queue at this stall. Quite surprising considering that it was raining cats and dogs and it was 3pm in the afternoon. Looks like everyone had the same idea.

Its just a tiny stall with one item on its menu; specialising in just serving laksa. The laksa is priced at either $2.50 or $3, without or without hum. Don't let the simple, no frills stall front foll you. This is a 'decorated' stall. Reviews and recommendations by newspapers, magazines and television programs are displayed. That is how famous and reputable this stall is for its laksa.

For $3, you would get a generous portions of ingredients that was so fresh such as fish cakes, crab sticks, dried toufu, beansprouts, hard boiled eggs and thick bee hoon. It also comes with hum. However, in this case I requested for no hum. The laksa gravy was light and rich. With fresh coconut milk, chilli and lots of dried shrimps that made the gravy so tasty and fragrant yet spicy. In addition, the gravy was not oily. Despite the spiciness, the more gravy you savour, the more you will love it. It was so addictive that I finish the whole bowl of laksa gravy (not something which I normally do as its not healthy).

The down side was that the place is not air conditioned and has limited seats. Despite the cooling weather, I was sweating. But well, this is a bowl of laksa well-worth sweating for. Still the best laksa in Yishun. Shiok!

I tried out the Laksa at 928 Yishun Laksa one day and the spiciness level of the dish was just right, not too little and also not too overwhelming. The chilli paste on the side when added into the soup made the Laksa taste even better! If you like to eat very spicy food, this is the Laksa for you! It is so yummy and always satisfies all my cravings for a good bowl of Laksa every time.

I went to eat this Best Laksa in Singapore! There is Good laksa gravy together with good portion at a very good price! It is very worth the money! The gravy includes the nice little shrimps (xia mi) and the ingredients include fish cake, tau pok and 'hum'(cockles), which can be substituted with crab meat if u don't like 'hum'! Together with the awesome chilli made by the owner and the laksa leaves, this is definitely the best laksa you can ever get in Singapore!

The taste of the soup base as made with lots of small dried shrimps and galangal ginger bits that made it very fragrant... Also, the soup base does not give you the bloated feeling at all as it is not the creamy, milky kind..Most importantly, it's not too spicy, so most people should be able to take it, can always add more chili on your own, which their sambal chilli paste is also many people’s favorite...

I managed to get my bowl of laksa after queued for 15 minutes. It was a bowl of thick bee hoon without cockles at $3. I had a whole egg this time but it was not a perfect egg with an uneven surface. The gravy got nice coconut smell but quite diluted. The ingredients were quite alot, not just tau pok but also crabsticks. The $3 bowl is quite filling as compared to the $2.50 one.

I tried it before but it did not make an impression then. I decided to give it another chance when i happened to catch a movie in this area. I was there for lunch on a Saturday. There was a short queue of a few people right in front of me. i waited for about 10 minutes to order and to collect my bowl of laksa.

I got to select the type of noodle for either $2.50 or $3.00. I was a little hungry then so $3.00 of thin bee hoon was the choice. A good portion of thin bee hoon served with a handful of ingredients like half a hard boiled egg, slices of fishcake, crabsticks, cockles and beansprouts. Chopped dried laksa leaves and sambal chilli were available for self-service.

I still think the gravy was a little too diluted to my liking with a pretty mild taste of coconut milk. Their homemade sambal chilli has an intense taste of dried chilli with just the right level of spiciness. A good amount of it helped to enhance the taste a little further though it still did not amaze me much. Bits of dried shrimps can be found in the gravy as well.

I have tried better Laksa so this one is just mediocre.

The Service
Waiting time still acceptable as the food is served within 10mins.

The Ambience
Although the stall is in a coffeeshop, i find that the place was well-ventilated and not stuffy hence still acceptable

The Price
Reasonably priced at $3 onwards per bowl for decent portion.

Overall
I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try for all laksa lovers!

Their speciality, and only item they sell is so well-known, that people from all across the island flocked just to satisfy their laksa cravings.

Now, you might think why it is called 928 Laksa, the answer is simple - it is located at BLK 928. In business for 15 years and counting, this humble shop has become a household name in the north, but has yet to expand much. Hence, be prepared to wait, as seatings are quite limited there.

Their signature laksa (S$2.50) is full of ingredients, thick beehoon paired with slices of fish cake, taupok, half hard boiled egg and cockles, garnished with laksa leaves. The most important item - gravy is just perfect with the right amount of coconut milk and chilli paste. It also brings along the rich fragrance of dried shrimps.

The homemade laksa chilli is superb, one of the best laksa chilli I have ever had. The spiciness is mild, but the fragrance of the sambal is so good. For diners who can't handle spicy food, do not fret as they sell drinks and desserts at a reasonable price, to "put off the flame".

Overall, it was a good bowl of laksa, I savoured it till the last drop of gravy. And I'd say it is on par with the famous local Katong Laksa. Not enough? Upsize your bowl of laksa for just an additional S$0.50.

Go to the correct stall. The stall is at the right side of the picture above. Do take note at the left side of the picture with the shutter down, there is a similar laksa stall there. For me, I prefer the one at the right, which sells the best laksa in Yishun.

Long queue despite the time being 4pm in the afternoon.

It is just a tiny stall. But do not under estimate its power. The laksa comes at $2.50 or $3.00. Yes, the owner sells laksa only. And there is always a queue. Oh yes, this stall is featured frequently on TV (food shows), magazines and websites such as Makansutra.

As the saying goes, a picture speaks a thousand words. Look at the ingredients. Reasonable amount of fish cakes, dried toufu, crabsticks, fresh bean sprouts, half hard boiled egg, lots of thick bee hoon. Normally, it comes with hum. In this case, I requested for no hum (Uncle Mai Hum..haha reminds me of this). Laksa leaves and sambal chilli paste which you can add according to your preference. The laksa gravy is fragrant, rich with bits of dried shrimps, right amount of coconut milk and chilli. Not oily too. It is so fragrant that I find myself drinking spoonful of laksa gravy despite sweating all over and before I knew it I finish the whole bowl! Yes, even all the gravy! This $3.00 is worth the money.

The downside is that there is limited space to sit and also be prepared to sweat it out eating this as there is only 1 small fan. But I would say this is one laksa worth sweating and paying for. Give this a try! Who says there is nothing good in the north!
