Each of us ordered a drink.. sam had Banana Boost $12.00,a drink a combination of white chocolate and banana.. she commented that this drink is nice and she is able to taste the taste and sweetness of the banana. Wendy had Mango Magic $12.00.. forget to ask her for the taste but I suppose should be nice coz no complains from her.. Theresa and Myself, we had the Taiwan lychee beer $12.00, its so nice, sweet and refreshing. Pauline ordered the Hot Fudge $10.00,accordingto her, this is nice when its consumed when its hot, the drink is creamy and had strong, nice chocolate taste..

we ordered 2 sides to share
1) Sweet Potato Fries $12.00, that is served with Mayo & BBQ sauce.. I super love the sweet potato fries here, it is sweet and crispy.. a recommended dish to order...

2) Mushroom Bites $14.00 that is cooked and simmer in red wine sauce. This dish is served with tomato and slices of toast at the side. Spread some of these mushroom on the toast and it's so yummy. The mushroom is well infused with the sauce and is soft, great combination to eat with the toast.

each of us ordered a main too, Pauline, Evelyn and Me, we ordered the nice, yummy Boeuf Bourguignon $26.00. This is beef check, bacon, carrots and mushrooms slow cooked in veal stock and red wine. Looks small when it is served in the pot but it is actually quite filling as there is mash potato underneath the beef and a bread at the side. I would strongly recommend this dish as the beef is well cooked, soft and had absorbed the sauce making it tender too.. the mash potato on it own is already tasty but taste even better when you eat it with the sauce. A very well done dish..

We are all so full from the meal but well, there is always a little more space for desserts and furthermore, there is no way we can resist the temptation of desserts from the huge selection of cakes and pastries from the confiserie. We decide to order the Kalamansi tart $9.00 and Cookies & cream brownie $5.00 to share. Personally I prefer the Kalamansi tart over the Cookies & cream brownie. The Kalamansi tart topping has strong kalamansi taste which is sourish but the taste is so refreshing. You need to eat this together the tart, the combination is heavenly, the sweetness from the tart plus the sourish taste from the topping, nice and well-balanced... The cookies & cream brownie is nice but a little too sweet to my liking and so I only had a bite and stop...

We are actually here today for the Wednesday waffles promo that is 50% off on the second waffle purchased but was told by the staff that we cannot had waffles at the bistro area and that we have to walk over to the confiserie for it. We are comfortably seated down and do not want to sit at the high chair at the confiserie, we decide not to have the waffle today..

Thou we are disappointed that we don get to eat the waffle at the bistro area but still I think Au Chocolat is worth visiting, the staffs here are friendly and quite prompt... great place for friends meet up... I will definitely return again...

The dining area too stays true to that fantasy appeal with a toy train running along the railway tracks that project down the ceiling and form a perimeter around the bistro while the servers adorn maroon coloured aprons over their white shirts with matching straw boater hats.

Ultimate Benedict $22

Having heard raves about the Ultimate Benedict, we HAD to make a trip down to see what was so ultimate about it. And when this aluminum black pan arrived at our table with a towering display of food, we definitely got excited. Starting from the base were two flaps of pancakes, topped with sautéed spinach, chicken chunks, ribeye steak, poached eggs, bacon and drizzled with Au Chocolat's specialty dark chocolate and red wine infused Hollandaise sauce.

The trick would probably be to cut a cross section and have a bit of everything in a mouthful but it was a nearly impossible task without everything toppling over so we decided to eat it layer by layer instead. Unfortunately, that was when the magic was lost because the individual elements were not spectacular or particularly mind-blowing unlike its presentation and our initial impressions of it. The special Hollandaise sauce however was quite the charmer and what truly stood out in this dish overall.

Truffle Fries $15

These truffle fries are by far the best that I have enjoyed in Singapore to date! Thick cut potato strips that have been deep fried in white truffle oil and seasoned with truffle sea salt, these were truly truffle fries through and through. That lovely truffle aroma definitely hits you when the fries are served and stays even till the very last fry. Additional points have to be added for the presentation in a newspaper cone which certainly adds novelty and enjoyment. BBQ sauce and mayo are also served at the side but I didnt really use them. These truffle fries are perfect on their own!

Au Chocolat Tower Cake $18

This gorgeous tower cake with its six layers of dark chocolate cake alternating with milk chocolate mousse and crunchy chocolate pearls was simply irresistible and absolutely rich. A dream come true for all chocolate lovers and a deserving one at that because every bite was moist, smooth, chocolatey and divine. For more indulgence, pour the chocolate ganache seved in a little pot at the side and eat it with the scoop of Vanilla gelato that also comes with the cake. I personally thought the gelato was a highlight with that authentic Vanilla bean taste instead of plain essence.

Overall, while Au Chocolat is certainly a treat to the taste buds and the eyes, it can also be quite costly for the wallet so I would not be too quick to rush back for my next visit. The portions are however generous and just nice for sharing. And you definitely have to check out the retail section on the way out. I am almost 100% sure you will not leave empty-handed!

Onion Soup - $14 was a disaster. I read other blog saying that this was good and so I went ahead to order despite the cost. I mean $14 for a soup made of onion?? Dubz, it was sooo expensive! =(

Anyway, the soup was so saltish that we cannot really drink it. The taste and colour of the soup reminded me of soya soy, really not appetizing at all.

Hi Tea Menu - $32 was good on the picture with its 3 tier platter but to satisfy your tummy? I'm afraid I need to shake my head. *Shaking head vigorously"

However, taste wise still okay. In fact, I quite like the savory items!

I liked the Ultimate Benedict - $22 First, the sauce was really intriguing ~ a mixture of red wine and dark chocolate infused hollandaise sauce. If you have been following my blog, I've mentioned earlier that I dun like hollandaise sauce coz I find it a bit sourish. But this combination was really interesting and being an 'advantageous' food lover, I had to give it a try. Indeed, it was not sourish and definitely dun taste like hollandaise sauce. Trust me, it did not taste as weird as you thought. Keke

And to add on, there were so many stuff (e.g. beef steak, bacon, sauteed spinach & tomato, roasted chicken & poached egg) in this pancake ~ you name it, you got it! So many flavours in a dish and the pancake can really substitute a main course. We were at a lost when the dish was served, dunno how to eat it coz too big! Where the heck is the pancake? Two fluffy ones were well hidden below all those goodies!

Appearance wise, it looks good when it arrived. Then i tried doing the classic action to a egg benedict! Cut it open and watch the runny yolk oozing out. Turns out to be kind of watery! Haha.

Otherwise the overall taste is good when you enjoy the poached eggs together with bacon,
spinach and tomatoes on the muffin. Not too bad for $18 =)

Afternoon tea at Au Chocolat. The cakes look delicious so i went in and got myself a red velvet cake (which is hugely popular these days). The cream is rich and the cake is soft and spongy. Definitely good to have on a Saturday afternoon. The place i not too full as well - a nice place to chill and have a long chat (plus coffee) with a good friend or two. However, it is a little pricey because of the location.

Au Chocolat benedict ( SGD $18++) poached eggs and bacon placed on top of english muffin with red wine and dark chocolate sauce. This is is quite average as i expect the sauce to be nicer.

Overall, i would say the ambience is very good, food is good too but a little pricey, and nice place to have gathering with friends.

I was so excited when I saw their service counter, as it was filled with a wide variety of cakes and pastry. I gave the chocolate cheesecake a try and it was to my liking, as I could taste a well balance of chocolate and cheese flavour, the texture was soft and the filling were creamy. However, the serving was not very big and it cost $9.50, thus i find it expensive for just a cake.

We ordered a few sets of Foie gras $5.00++ together with our mains. The liver was not well cooked, some parts were still raw and the edges were burnt. The quality of the liver was not as good as the ones served at Chef d' table, but for only $5, we can't really complain ya..

My main course, California smoked salmon sandwich $20.00++. Generous serving of chilled smoked salmon slices served with half avocado, hard boiled egg, lettuce, plump tomato and red onion slices with honey mayo dressing. The toast was well prepared with caramelized side being very crispy but bread is still soft and fluffy...a very delish sandwich. The thick cut french fries were good as usual.

It's dessert time...we enquired about the waffle promo but the serving stuff told us that it is only available at the Confiserie, we'll have to walk over there to eat it...what a disappointment! So we have to make do with just one Kalamansi tart $9.00++ and a Cookies & cream brownie $5.00++ for sharing.

The Kalamansi tart was quite nice, the tangy and sourish lime cream blends well with the sweet and creamy torched meringue topping...the tart base was very hard though.

We ordered a side of truffle fries to share. Every table seemed to have this so we thought why not? Verdict: good but the truffle wasn't evenly distributed. Some didn't have truffle on them at all.

The duck confit was my main course. The chocolate sauce that accompanied the mash potatoes was just plain weird for me (although my friends thought it was okay). It has this weird aftertaste. As for the duck itself, one word: overcooked. The skin was nice and cripsy but the meat was just too tough. Sigh.

Also, not pictured, we ordered 4 desserts to share - cheesecake platter, banana nutella crepe, bread and butter pudding cake and raspberry chocolate cake. All of them were really bad and disappointing, maybe except for the banana nutella crepe but even that barely passed.

Met the girlfriends for dinner at TCC Marina Bays Sand after collecting voucher from OpenRice. While waiting to the food to be served, I walked to the end of the building just to get my hands on the Kalamansi Meringue Tart ($9) from Au Chocolat! Fell in love with this huge tart during my 2nd visit & regretted I didn't order this on my 3rd visit! While the tart is not too buttery, the kalamansi is sour & the meringue is sweet! The tart taste just as good even after camping overnight in my fridge!

Being a fan of eggs benny, I was so eager to try this Au Chocolate Benedict - $18 as the hollandaise sauce is infused with red wine and dark chocolate! The poached eggs sat perfectly on top of the bacon, spinach, tomatoes and English muffins but the whole mixture of hollandaise, red wine and dark chocolate sauce was disappointing or rather not suited to my taste buds.

My friend ordered a Smoked Salmon Sandwich, which came together with normal fries. We didn't know it came with fries and when compared to the truffle fries, it was almost tasteless. Truffle fries are a must-try! A generous amount of salmon but other than that, it was quite normal.

My another half's aunt bought him this cake cost her about $68. Pretty good price for a good chocolate cake. One of his Taiwan friends came over Singapore just to celebrate his birthday so we cut this cake at M hotel, good ambiance and good food to go with. What's more to ask for? The big chunk of happy birthday white chocolate is good. Rich in flavor and it slowly melts in your mouth, really good and cool. The packaging is in a real sweet pink, really looks cute.

Full Au Chocolat review here: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2013/07/au-chocolat.html

Au Chocolat is a French inspired patisserie and bistro, located in the opulent Shoppes @ Marina Bay Sands, and is one of the more affordable, casual dining restaurants here.

Ambience at Au Chocolat is styled after the French / Paris streetside cafes, with cobblestone walls and elegant furniture. But the decor is a little over the top as well, as the walls are covered with cartoon paintings of French images. A toy train runs in on a looped track overhead, and while visually interesting, I fail to see how it links with the overall concept. The open show kitchen is a plus, allowing diners to see succulent chicken being roasted in the oven.

Service at Au Chocolat is efficient, though staff don't really make small talk or ask for feedback. While not exactly fine dining standards, staff will do their best to accomodate requests such as seating arrangements. Pretty decent service here.

The food at Au Chocolat is mainly focused in 3 areas: Brunch, French inspired main courses, and desserts. As a patisserie, Au Chocolat stands out for its wide range of gourmet chocolates, as well as really good cheesecakes. Their macarons, while larger than normal, are just decent. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to try their ice cream / gelato.

Their French main courses are pretty good as well, with big flavours and hearty portions. Cost is each dish is pretty affordable, and by far cheaper than most other dining establishments here. The Brunch menu at Au Chocolat is quite extensive, though much of the dishes available during Brunch are English / British inspired rather than French.
