Although the array of pretty desserts and pastries is breathtaking, this charming tea-room-styled bistro serves more than just sweets. The quality of the Italian cuisine here, albeit with a limited menu, is almost faultless. Desserts here are admittedly pricey, so it's best to get the desserts after 8pm, as they go for half the price then. Much more worth it.

We had:

1) Mozart ($16) starter of arugula and grilled prawns dressed with balsamic vinegar was fantastic. The bouncy plump prawns, coated with a smoky sweet glaze, harmonized brilliantly with the bitter crunchy arugula leaves

2) Merluzzo alla Piastra con Pomodori al Forno e Riduzione di Balsamico ($34) pan roasted cod with oven baked tomatoes and balsamic vinegar reduction. The fish was fresh, mild and creamy, topped with a generous sprinkling of ground pistachios for some crunch and a light nutty accent.

3) Risotto al Tartufo Nero ($30) black truffle risotto with porcini mushroom and veal jus - delicate and elegant. My only gripe is that the portion was too tiny for me

4) Dark & White Chocolate Cake ($8) - awesome. The dark chocolate, with its bittersweet overtones, married well with the rich milkyness of the white chocolate. A semi-tart blackberry, raspberry and strawberry provided a brilliant counterfoil to the rich, creamy dessert.

I went with my friends for dinner at this restaurant mainly cause we had the Groupon voucher. Although the place is tug at a corner in paragon, they serve really nice food. There is also a wide selection of assorted cakes and what great is that, there are discounts for cakes after 8pm. Many customers came to just get the cakes but not dine-in. This place is actually famous for its cakes and pastries.

We were seated at a corner of the inside dining area. The ambience was nicely elegant, Service was a bit slow. It took a bit of time for us to get noticed and duly seated when we arrived. ordered a pot of peppermint tea. an expensive one.
To note though that their patisserie has a 50% discount on cakes after 5pm, and their cakes are quite good.
Cova had inside and "outside" dining areas; outside being an area somewhat like what is occupied by many cafes in shopping malls i.e. not a shop unit bounded by walls, but an open area in between the passages. The outside had a cafe service counter, while the inside had the pastries and cakes display, and the kitchen of course.

I love their Parma ham with rocket pizza, however i think desert is still the most delightful

Wanted to try the DBS one for one set dinner promotion, but end we couldnt meet the terms and condition so then settled for the UOB one for one ala crate (condition was to also order an appetiser)

Bread and Biscuits (traditional starters to go along with Olive oil and vinegar)

Rossini (salad appetiser, maybe not used to italian food, dont really like the cheese)

Cod Fillet (Very fresh and tender, sauce not really getting to use to that kind of taste, tomato cherry is juicy, but for $34 bucks i would expect a little mashed potatoes on the base because the Beef Tenderloin have mashed potatoes beneath it)

Beef Tenderloin (Nice, love the mashed potatoes topped with some vegetables, tomato cherry is juicy, all for $38)

Tiramisu Cake (Not Nice at all, disappointed) Cakes and Desserts are available on 50% after 8pm.. but only for takeout.

Overall i think it is way too over price to patronize this cafe. prefer my high tea experience as before.

For starter, there is a choice of 2. I ordered TORETTA DI SALMONE AVOCADO CON POMODORI, VERZE E CONDIMENTO ALL’AFARANCIO (Tower of salmon tartar and avocado mousse served with tomato concass on savoy cabbage and orange dressing).
The salmon looks cooked, not raw as I thought. The buttery taste of the avocado goes well with the oily fish, flow smoothly down and do not cover the taste of the fish.

For the pasta dish, we have STRACCI DI PASTA FATTI IN CASA CON GAMBERI E POMODORINI (Homemade stracci served with prawns and cherry tomatoes).
It is well done with the pasta cooked just right and topped with fat and juicy prawns.

For the dessert, I choose 4 different mini items from the counter (From the top: Mini Sacher (Rank no.2), Bigne Chantilly (Rank no.3), Mini Chocolate Pistachio Tart , Mini Chocolate Blackberry Tart)
Both the chocolate ones taste similar except one has a blackberry at the bottom. The cream in the bigne is light and fresh. The sacher is full of different texture of tastes.

Very relaxing place, 2.5 hours just past without notice. I would like very much to come again.

Popped by Cova Pasticceria for dinner one evening since we were in the vicinity and everywhere else was packed. Started in 1819 in Milan and originally patronised by the crème de la crème of society, Cova has expanded to a few countries in Asia to cater to those who seek "the high life" (albeit if only temporary).

And the decor is telling. Dark wood coupled with European style overhanging lamps that throw off warm light and well designed cornices greet you as you step into the cozy space that Cova occupies. Simple yet elegant.

Mushroom Risotto - For $30 , I had expected something more substantial than a miserly thin layer of risotto which I finished in 2 mouthfuls. And to compound matters, the risotto was a little overcooked for my liking.

Seafood Spaghetti - The seafood spaghetti fared a little better though I did think that the spaghetti wasn't al dente. I liked the light tomato based sauce and the fresh seafood but as with the risotto, portions were pathetic.

Lamb Rack - I didn't get to try this but from observation, portions were still small.

Peanut Feuilletine - And for dessert, a tiny piece of peanut feuilletine about a third the size of a regular slice of cake you would get at the likes of Starbucks, Coffeebean etc. To give it credit, the feuillentine was nicely thin and crisp while the chopped peanuts provided a nice crunch to the whole dessert. There wasn't much to go around though.

A miserable meal for 3 cost to the tune of $130, which is ridiculously expensive in my humble opinion. Portions were pathetic and two people with average appetites would have been able to polish off all the dishes with ease (we resorted to MacDonalds after the meal). Food quality hovered around average to slightly above average but the prices (and portion size) definitely do not warrant a revisit. Also, service lacked warmth and I didn't feel invited at times. Maybe we are just the wrong target audience.

Cova offers a 5-course set dinner @ 69++, but we got the 1-for-1 deal voucher from Her World Magazine (ends 31 Oct), which is a bargain. For appetizer, we can choose between Octopus salad with potato and fennel in lemon dressing and Minestrone soup. The octopus salad served in a big portion. The potato and octopus are well-marinated, but the salad itself tasted a little too plain. Of course you can add some balsamic vinegar to it, but I think it would taste better if it's topped with some cheese.

Second course was the creamy pasta. This dish is so yummy, the creamy cheesy sauce is just nice, not over-powdering to give ya sicky feeling. A very comforting dish I would say.

For mains, we can choose between Grilled italian veal and pork sausage and Butterfish with arugula. The sausage has a descent taste, the minced meat quite lean and the red wine sauce definitely enhanced the flavour.

The butterfish is very fresh, and goes really well with the lemon parsley butter sauce. The arugula (also known as rocket) might taste a little bitter if being eaten alone, but with the sauce and the nature sweetness from the fish, it actually blends in just well.

And then.. it's dessert time!! Each set dinner is entitled to choose either 4 mini pastries, or 1 slice of cake from the counter. The pastries and cakes are all looking yummy, and it's actually quite hard to choose. But whichever you pick, i'm sure you won't feel disappointed.

I am not an expert when it comes to dessert but an average person will also be able to taste the difference between a quality and poor one. ;p COVA takes over the location where Dome used to be and has a seating capacity for about 100 customers (I did a quick estimation while waiting for food). There are two main sections – tea room and open concept café. I prefer the tea room where lovely desserts are displayed in front of us and it’s cosier. With kids running outside, open concept café is a no-no for us. Great care and efforts are put into the details for the ambiance, decorations and furniture. Even wooden shelves look classy! There is a corner for sale of cookies, sweets, coffee powder and tea leaves.

This is a good place for dating, socializing and get together. Erm, only if one don’t look at the prices. Lol ~ definitely more expensive than the usual TCC, Coffee Bean and etc that most of us visit … But COVA is so much better than the usual cafes … and so does the ‘prices’ ;p We are truly very blessed with vouchers given from a colleague … hehe, that entitled us for a free slice of cake and drink each ~

We have had a slice of chocolate cake and mango cake. Both are fabulous! The texture of cake is so soft and not lumpy; literally melts in my mouth. And with the romantic ambiance, I am totally won over.

All the pastries, coffee, cakes and chocolates at COVA looked exquisitely divine! But I wasn't there for high tea. Came by to try the festive menu. Fell head over feels for the Cappesante Avvolte nella Pancetta con Asparagi Verdi e Caviale di Barbabietole (woah that’s a really long name) aka seared sea scallops wrapped in pancetta served with green asparagus and beetroot caviar. The lead character of this dish is a juicy Hokkaido Scallop wrapped in pancetta and lightly seared. OMG the chubby scallop is so naturally sweet and it goes perfectly with the boiled asparagus and beetroot ‘caviar’! Haha yes the purplish ‘caviar’ is actually boiled diced beetroot. I like the colour of this dish. It looks so feisty. Love it. Hope they gonna have it on the menu again.

Thinking about mooncake?! The first impression that would be occupying your mind would be the usual impression....brown light fluffy crust with lotus root paste and at times accompanied by the pleasant surprise of salted egg yolk within....packaged in a standard gift box of "you know how" assumption!

In my deepest thoughts and likings....mooncake has never ever been my priority in my "to die to eat" list....however i sincerely believe things will take a significant contra on my perception of mooncake which pretty much caught my amuse attention! Being one of the lucky winners to be given a chance to try out the mooncake by Cova i am preparing myself for the worst that i had encountered on my near to "heaven" mooncake experiences...which were total dryness, a hard nut to crack when in my tunneling machine and almost choking to death when i tried to gush it down! (Heaven!)

Sighting of the mooncakes within its gift box were totally refreshing especially chilling in the cooler for almost an hour. Cova intelligently made use of all its experience that they had accumulated since its establishment in 1817 right from the streets of the fashion famous Milan and came up with this four exquisite flavours that i have ever encounterd which are:

Mocha Snowskin Mooncake - which consists of the perking coffee blends and their silky smooth milk chocolate with a heavy but yet lighthearted touch to create the body that no mooncake lovers would have ever projected.

Sweet Potato and Pumpkin Snowskin Mooncake - induced an attractive golden-yellowish appearance on its fillings and with the light texture on its feel and create a diligently subtle sweetness.

Rose and Vanilla Snowskin Mooncake - consist of sponge cake layered with chocolate and cream with rose flavoring skin that create the unique rose-vanilla taste! Harmony of contrast at its very best.

Peanut and Chocolate Snowskin Mooncake - total chunkiness of the grinded peanuts with the integration of the fine touches of the rich and soothing chocolate creamery that will amplified your desire on the combustion within.

Going @ $38.50 with a plus... Cova's range of mooncakes is a must have for this Mid Autumn Festival...be it for anybody or any age group! Talking about Italian Flair with Chinese Tradition! My total change of perception of mooncake and escalating it to my "to die to eat" list!!! Big thumbs up ! Thank you Cova & Openrice!
