Going to have a quick and home-style lunch, I recommended Han’s Café. Surrounded by comfortable air-conditioner, the food was up-to-standard at budgeted price. Beautifully delicious rice, it was a simple mixture from bunch of stuffs. Exponentially good, the rice was well-fried. Not one little rice stacked to another, the rice was separated clearly and springy. Sunny side up added points to the whole, the plate was such a generous serving. It was $8.95. Han’s maintained the standard throughout the years, they took effort t built their reputation too. Keep it up, I will support Han’s.

I only realised that Han's serves pretty good desserts last night. A friend gave us a warm Apple Crumble Pie which was absolutely delicious. The pie was super tasty, just sweet enough with moist apples which still had a little bite to them. The crust was sweet and crunchy and the pastry was, on a whole, buttery and delicious. The combination of all the elements together was just amazing and I really enjoyed my dessert. Probably will try their other desserts next time after this good experience!

I remember I used to frequent Han's quite often for their affordable set meals. I went back again to have their Mushroom Sauce Chicken Chop Set meal, which comes with bread and soup and a daily dessert. Over the years I think their portion had shrunk, even with the set meal it still wasn't as filling. The mushroom soup was diluted and the mushroom taste is quite faint. The chicken chop itself is ok but the piece of meat is too small. The dessert too didn't impress much.

The yummy peach tart at Han's is really delicious and i live how the cream custard and the crumbly tart shell goes so well together. The sweetened large peach on the top complements the custard and the biscuit base tart. Love their rum balls too which has a great rum taste and although it looks small, it is packed with so much goodness and its flavour is really awesome!

So a friend of mine visited Singapore for the holidays. We met up at Marina Square and we were quite hungry so I took him to Han's. My reason for bringing him here is that the food is always great and it's not so expensive. For less than 10 dollars, you can get one ala carte. Their set meals usually cost S10 or more. Quite cheap, eh? The best part is that their servings are big. One set meal can feed two people!Since my friend and I were both hungry, we ordered one set meal each. We had the Hain

Since my friend and I were both hungry, we ordered one set meal each. We had the Hainanese Pork Rice. it came with soup, rice, drink, and dessert. As always, they were quite generous with the ingredients as well as the sauce. Even my friend who doesn't really like hainanese stuff enjoyed it!

The Place: We remember Han's Cafe as a place for a quick, local F&B fix on the cheap. The Place: We remember Han's Cafe as a place for a quick, local F&B fix on the cheap. This Han's outlet looked almost spartan and somewhat out of place in the recently renovated, bright & shiny Marina Square's F&B corridor lined with family. restaurants and chi chi cafes. It looked like a dormitory dining room with its neatly arranged tables and stools and several uncushioned booth seats. Obviously a 'eat and be gone' kind of place to cater to fast customer turnover. It was 20% occupied late on Friday afternoon and the place reeked faintly with the sanitized smell of detergent as a guy was taking his time mopping the back of the restaurant including the booth seating area.

The Service: None i.e. Self service as menu prices are nett/GST-inclusive and no service charge. In school tuckshop style, both of us took a tray each at the cake&pie display area, placed our order and paid the grouchy, curt obasan at the cashier's and waited while our items were being put together, dutifully carting our filled trays to one of the many vacant tables near the front of the restaurant.

The Prices: Inflation has caught up at Han's so we no longer expect coffee shop prices in aircon comfort anymore. Prices are reasonable - kopi at $1.40, butter kaya toast at $1.80, kaya cake at $1.80 & peach melba sundae at $4.50.

The Food: Local style kopi was consistently aromatic with strong dose of caffeine. Kaya cake was nice with the lower half of the slice being sponge cake & upper half being kaya curd - the way two of us like it. However those who prefer more cake and less kaya curd may not like Han's version. The toast was burnt as it was rock hard rather than crispy or crunchy. The person who made the toast obviously did a slipshod job, with kaya spread thinly on only 1/2 the slice & just a smear (not a piece) of butter. It was dry and tasteless so the only way to eat it was to dip it in the kopi or use it as a wafer for the ice cream. The biggest shock was the peach melba sundae. I remember it as a childhood treat - vanilla ice cream with half a cling peach topped with a cherry & served in a glass. I did not expect the sundae to be served in a flimsy 350ml plastic cup obviously meant as a receptacle for soda fountain drinks. There was three small scoops - two being standard vanilla ice cream and one being a big gooey dollop of whipped cream (see photo) with only two forlorn looking slices of peach overwhelmed by the whipped cream.Han's version of Eton Mess? Something similar at McDonalds will cost only 1/3 of the $4.50 we paid at Han's.

The Rating: Standards at Han's have dropped tremendously, perhaps due partly to costlier ingredients & manpower and partly to rapid expansion at the expense of quality control. 2 hits (kopi & cake) and 2 misses (toast & sundae). If not for Han's reasonable prices it will not earn an OK score.

I really love eating at Han's- it had been around as long as I could remember. I have always loved eating their set- the lowest is around $9.80 and it includes a drink (ice lemon tea/orange juice/coffee/tea) with soup and bread and dessert(fruit) and the main course. That I feel can be quite affordable, especially when eating in town. Most people love the local dishes but I always like eating this set course that is available all day long. Have bought their seafood hor fun when having lunch with my colleagues. The broad kway teow is quite chewy and has been stir fried till quite fragrant as well. The gravy i though was abit salty in taste and is abit too watery as well. Loves those generous amount of chye sim added in it which make this dish really healthy and added that extra crunchiness to the kway teow as well. The portion was quite alright and enjoy the cool nice environement in this restaurant as well.

The food at Han's is not only affordable but they even have a section of vegetarian options! fried rice to kuay teow to fried bee hoon and so forth.I decided to order the fried been hoon this time round. i particularly like their pies. Even when you take away, it stays yummy, does not get soggy and keeps its shape! And the price is so super reasonable. The filling is also very generous and the service is great. Their crust is always flaky, fresh and puffy. I wonder how the pastry keeps its shape so well! It never flattens even when its a takeaway. I love their cakes and pastries too. All very well made and very well priced. Highly recommended!

I ordered the Dory fish and chips and a cup of coffee. I am not crazy over fish and chip, but at Han's, this will be my standard order. I love their Dory fish and coffee. It is always so crispy outside and soft internally. The fish is fresh and the serving was big enough to fill my stomach. For the big eater, it will be just nice after the cup of coffee. For me, I will have to sacrifice the chips to make room for the nice coffee.

Whenever i passby Han's Cafe and Cake house, i will normally buy either a peach tart or a sausage roll. These 2 iconic pastry from Hans are great. I decided to order the sausage roll to go today. The sausage filling is just right and the pastry is nice and flaky.
