Located on the top floor of Far East Plaza, New Station Snack Bar serves delicious Chinese home-style tze char at affordable prices. The price for rices and noodles are around $5 and side dishes are mostly below $20.Their Salted Egg Pork Rib ($11.00/$17.00) is a must-try signature dish. I would also recommend their Claypot Beef Bee Tai Mak ($6.00), Sliced Fish San Lou Hor Fun ($5.80), Seafood Crispy Noodles ($4.80) and Salted Egg with Deep Fried Fish Skin ($9.00/$13.00). Luckily, after taking the escalator up to the 5th floor, the new station snack bar is just right beside it. The seats are not too comfortable but the cooking smell from the kitchen tells me this is a must try. I ordered the salted egg pork ribs rice which is price at S$6, it takes about 15 mins wait and the rice was served pipping hot with quite a reasonable portion of pork ribs with a very creamy salted egg yolk sauce, the sauce is very generous, as it is enough to blend with my bowl of rice, the chilli padi and bay leaves add a touch of thai flavour to the cream sauce. This is so delicious, it is a much try, no regrets.

I had the Salted egg yolk pork ribs rice for $6 at around late 4pm to 5pm. I was told to wait for 15 minutes as the chef was eating but as I had company, the wait was still okay. The stall owners were amiable and friendly. When my order came, I could smell the fragrance of the salted yolk. It was served warm and poured over the boneless pork ribs. The pork was very tender and not at all hard. I'll definitely get this again!

I chanced upon this really crowded eatery during lunch hours and decided to give it a try. I got the salted egg pork rib rice for $6. Price was slightly steep as there was only one ingredient but the pork ribs were sufficient to go with the rice and they were yummy because of the salted egg sauce. It was something cannot really be found in most places. This was the first time I ate salted egg pork rib. It was a satisfying meal

It was recommended by my friend. Actually last month came but then it was full house and need to wait for quite long so we just went to the other stall, so this time we came early and we got a seat without any queue. The rice portion was not quite less, then this stall egg yolk chicken was much spicier. I don't plan to order any drink but really too spicy till I can't take it and got to order a cup of barley
overall not bad, would come again

I was back for the third time (actually fourth, the third time I had the Sweet & Sour Chicken Rice again) to try out their Kong Poh Chicken with Rice (宫保鸡丁饭) ($5)... and my verdict? It is just as powerful, salty and fragrant as the Salted Egg Pork Ribs and Sweet & Sour Chicken Rice I had. The only difference is that it is generously cooked with dried chilli, but the spiciness feels fleeting: good for people who likes a bit of spiciness but not too much. The only difference is that it is generously cooked with dried chilli, but the spiciness feels fleeting: good for people who likes a bit of spiciness but not too much. Again I have the same grumble about the portion of rice that isn't enough! I am such a rice bucket D: I prefer this one to the Salted Egg Pork Ribs (their signature) because it is definitely less jelat and less overly salty like that one. I also like this one better for its less conventional flavour (unlike the tangy tomato sweet and sour flavour).

And yes, that puts this Kong Poh Chicken with Rice on the top of my list for New Station Snack Bar's menu!
Here's the rest of the menu anyway.

Again, the service is very efficient despite the crowds. There's a high turnover rate as it is a eat-and-go sort of place rather than an eatery for you to chit chat for a few hours.

went back to dine again, compared the the previously this time round was much more spicy. they added more red chilli. prefer it to be less spicy and hot. but this is still acceptable. this is my all time food in orchard. the pricing now also increased from $5.50 to current $6. the pork is boneless and lot of meat. quite expensive, the rice is also too less. overall, must try if you're a salted egg lover.

This stall has been here for quite a while and there is usually a long queue of working adults during lunch hour. We managed to get a table after waiting for around 10-minutes and I decided to try their chicken claypot rice that day. The rice was drenched in dark soy sauce all the way through - you can't even find any grain of rice that is white, making it way too salty. I still prefer their salted egg pork ribs rice!

Went to New Station Snack Bar today with my colleagues and I order the popular Salted Egg Pork with rice. The place is crowded at lunch but we managed to get a seat and our meal rather quickly as there is a staff helping to allocate seats on first come first serve basis and take our orders before we are seated.Sauce is really creamy with abit of spiciness. Super nice when paired with the fried pork! Although I suspect anything with the sauce would be nice.

I ate at this place for two consecutive days, how's that? And I'll go back to this place next week again to try some of the other things on the menu because both meals have been more-than-satisfying.

I tried their Sweet & Sour Chicken Rice, a generic dish found in quite a few hawker centres and therefore would be able to help discern if the restaurant is of good quality. Their Sweet & Sour Chicken Rice is so good that I actually ordered another bowl of rice. The sauce is very thick and more sweet than it is sour, and drenched the rice adequately. I am more impressed with the chicken - it was piping hot when served and it was super crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

I often order this "safe" dish at hawker centres (Redhill Food Market and also ABC Brickworks Market) and cannot finish it at all because their chicken would be sodden with the lackluster sauce and becomes repulsive.

But here at New Station Snack Bar, I was so impressed by how they managed to keep it so fresh and delicious. I polished off the whole plate and was still raring for more, but worried for my waistline so I stopped there. Oh well, there's always a next time.
On a side note, I find that the ratio between the chicken/sauce and the rice could be better balanced - I finished everything nicely only with a top-up of another bowl of rice. Supposedly it should have cost $0.80, but the super friendly auntie only charged me $0.30! She cleverly won over my heart and my stomach completely.

The 'next time' I dropped by here was the next day! My colleague recommended their specialty dish, the Salted Egg Pork Ribs. Strangely, they are two ingredients (salted egg & pork ribs) that does not appeal to me and I would not order them on my own accord. But since it is their specialty dish and I was already quite impressed with their Sweet & Sour Chicken Rice, I decided to give this a go.

When I heard the name of this dish, I thought the salted egg would appear as... eggs. But it is actually the sauce that the pork ribs are drenched in. The salted egg yolk taste is only subtle but sufficient, and amazingly, complements the pork ribs quite well. The pork ribs replicate the impressive crispy-exterior-tender-interior sort of texture that the chicken had. Really enjoyed this dish a lot, although I still prefer my Sweet & Sour Chicken Rice
Again, I finished the entire plate!

There are also a lot of things on their menu, but I would strongly recommend to try their dishes with rice. Because I'm a rice-bucket and thinks that their rice dishes look more attractive.

A tip for you if you intend to go - this place is almost always crowded to the brim during peak hours, so go as in pairs or fours to get a seat quicker. You might have to share a table with others (happened to me on both occasions) but trust me you'll be too absorbed in the food to realize that!
