Although this restaurant had it's unique food culture, this is going to be my last trip there because the supervisor/manager failed to plan and planned to fail for their staffs deployment due to food being served in rush way!

Lastly, this restaurant is not really served authentic Teochew cuisine in Singapore, so I was not pretty impressed with the food at this visit.

The restaurant is decorated in quite the old school and no frill way, with traditional opera clothes at the entrance. As the restaurant is quite popular, it is best to make reservation before coming.

Today the family is coming here for the hi-tea buffet which costs $22.80++ for an adult and $16.80++ for a child. Although the family have made reservation for hi-tea buffet which usually occurs from 3pm to 5pm, we have a rude shock when the staff tells us the last order for the buffet is 3.30pm. It seems that there is an event tonight. The restaurant will be closing the buffet earlier in order to prepare for the event. I am annoyed that the staff should have called up to tell us about the problem so that we could come earlier.

The buffet style here is quite different from outside. There is no buffet counter or menu for one to look at. One just picks whatever one likes from the various push carts going around the dining room. Within a short time, the table is easily filled up.

Kueh Pie Tee, Shark's Fin Soup and Duck meat roll are part of the buffet, but is limited to one serving per customer. The kueh pie tee is not filled with the traditional vegetable filling. Instead it is filled with calamari salad. Interesting.

For the steamed dim sum, there is items such as xiao long bao, siew mai, bean curd roll, steamed pork ribs, crystal bun, chive dumplings, vegetable dumpling, seafood dumplings, chee cheong fan with assorted fillings and chicken feet. The crystal bun has savoury rice filling in it. Tastes not bad.

For buns, there is cha siew bun (BBQ pork bun), pan fried pork bun, black sesame bun and everyone's favourite Liu Sha Bao (流沙包). The Liu Sha Bao (流沙包) is uniquely green in color, and the filling really flowing out easily. The black sesame filling in the black sesame bun is a bit too sweet for me.

For deep fried items, there is shrimp roll, shrimp dumplings, seafood balls, goyza, and fried durian shrimp roll. The fried durian shrimp roll is covered with deep fried noodle like crust, inside filled with rich and chunky filling. Although one cannot smell the durian in it, the taste is pretty strong in it and surprisely well with the juicy shrimp.

Besides these, there is also fried ee fu mee, century egg porridge, lotus leaf rice, chilled pork in jelly, chilled cheek in jelly, baked pork pastry, deep fried fish skin with salted egg and black sesame paste. The deep fried fish skin with salted egg sauce is quite nice with the mayonnaise, although I wish that the salted egg sauce could be thicker. The black sesame paste is quite rich and flavourful. Too bad that is the only hot dessert available that day.

For cold desserts, there is ice jelly, almond jelly, herbal jelly and mango jelly. The herbal jelly tastes quite bitter. The ice jelly is quite refreshing with a hint of tea taste.

Overall the food is not bad with quite a huge range although mother feels the various is less than the usual dim sum menu. Although there is a lot of staff running around, it is quite difficult to get their attention. Besides the hot tea served on the table, one can also help oneself to the ice lemon tea and ice cubes at the counter. Yes most of the times we seem to be helping ourselves to the various things around. Even when the staff has a push cart full of desserts in front of us and we request that we would like some, the old staff answers that it is not for us, but the tables behind us. Funny especially everyone is having the buffet too. The staffs here seem to be choosy in serving customers. Although at the end of the meal, one feels like having gone through a very fierce battle. Feeling super drain out.

I have the Papaya with White Fungus in hot version. The white fungus is very soft which shows that it has been cooked for awhile.

Overall the food is good, as most are from push cart, there is no price list. One just hope at the push cart aunties will list correctly on the order list. The place is like so old school with push carts around and so noisy.

Review on my blog : http://cennds.blogspot.com

There are variety of dishes to eat and to pick but most of the food contains of PRAWN. It is advantage for prawn/shrimp lover but it will be a negative side for those have an allergic on prawn. Although i don't have allergic on it but since most of the food have prawn, we ate till quite afraid of their dishes especially if we saw a prawn.

However, the food quality is not bad and flavoursome

We love the old school push-cart dim sum experience. The restaurant is very big, probably enough for 30 or more tables. However, there were only 2-3 dim sum trolleys that were going around, which means most of the time food were all gone when the trolley comes by. Thus, it is better to be seated along the sides so that chances of you getting your plate filled were higher (esp on wkends!).Liu Sha Bao is a must try =)

Though the dimsum is from 3-5pm, their last order started around 4:15pm. Do go there on time so you get to have the whole experience. There is also complimentary calamansi juice

There was way too many dimsum and food offerings on the day but I've included some of the better options and food to avoid.

Paper wrapped chicken. Didn't know this dish existed! And I'm glad there's no limit on how many you can eat. The chicken while a little hard to get to since you need to tear through the paper, it's flavor was similar to the pandan chicken that you can eat at thai restaurants.

Every pax is entitled to only one serving of the above. The bowl is the shark fin soup which was very generous with its shark fin and the texture was very thick and just what I had in mind. The shell for the wasabi mayo 'abalone' was cold, though the abalone seems to be more like squid than abalone.

though this is a chef recommendation, this is probably the one dish I would never want to eat anymore should I go back.

The meal was about $50 for 2 after the GST and service charge which is quite worth it if it covers your lunch and dinner for that day--and you get to satisfy your dimsum craving!

Additional Dim Sum for testing, it was unpredictable nice. Minced pork and fresh Prawn were neatly wrapped inside, the overall taste was well-matched. Chinese tea provided was refreshing and eliminated greasy feeling towards the food. Their service worth a compliment, staffs was readily to help. It was not my first time came, will continue to support them.

Swatow serves dim sum breakfast in the morning and it always get very very crowded at about 10am. My family and I went over as early as they just open and thus was able to get a seat quick. I think this is a good place to have dimsum with your family because they have a good variety and some tasted good. Their liu sha bao is actually green in colour and I believe it's because of the pandan essence they used. Swatow is a little pricer than average dimsum places tough.

Old school Teochew Restaurant serving cantonese dimsum. My Father In Law comes here for the evening teochew show put up by the restaurant for the customer dining in on weekdays evening. And his the one who recommend us this dim sum.

There's a huge variety of dim sum to choose from, their chee cheing fun is Hk style so it's more savory then our usual sweet, rolled up rice sheet is hot and springy (they go round with steam push carts). I like their char siew su, buttery and flaky pastry filled with sweet pork meat; don't quite like the siew mai as it's abit too rubbery and tough.
Sweet and sour chicken wings, crispy and scrumptious wings coated with tangy and sticky sauces very tasty.

Kailan is crunchy but very very oily; Their Xiao Long Bao skin is slightly on the thicker side but the meat filling is flavorful and juicy. Hot Spinach and Prawn dumpling is light and toothsome. Appealing egg tart looks tempting but tart shell was slightly uncooked, causing the overall texture to be mushy rather then crumbly.

Most of their food items are alright if not above average and doesn't harm to just take a bite and ask for another dish! (just don't waste food).

Eating dim sum at Swatow seafood restaurant can certainly satisfy your craving for dim sums There is quite variety of dim sum to eat. However, no dim sum could beat the liu sha bao Its simply irresistible, a must try.The filling inside the liu sha bao is so smooth and creamy. Once you sink your teeth into it, the filling immediately ooze out---its sweet and salty! There is other nice dim sum too like prawn dumpling etc so do try!!

Eating dim sum at Swatow seafood restaurant can certainly satisfy your craving for dim sums
There is quite variety of dim sum to eat. However, no dim sum could beat the liu sha bao
Its simply irresistible, a must try.
The filling inside the liu sha bao is so smooth and creamy. Once you sink your teeth into it, the filling immediately ooze out---its sweet and salty! There is other nice dim sum too like prawn dumpling etc so do try!!

Foodwise, I think it's not too bad and the custard buns are a must try item on the menu! I love the texture a lot. Just the first bite, you will surely experience an explosion of custard.

Creamy and smooth, the filling was a delectable balance of sweet and salty. Oh boy, how I wish i can go back and eat their custard buns again.

Had my hi-tea session at Swatow Seafood, a few of the places in Singapore that has a hi-tea dim sum buffet. The buffet is in ala carte style though, much better as you get to eat fresh dim sum out from the kitchen and the waitress will be pushing the 'dim sum' cart table to table. Anyway, reservation is highly recommended as the place filled up very fast every weekend and the buffet timing is only like 3 hours. Be there early or you will miss the good food! As for the food, I love their custard bun (aka liu sha bao), their weird style dumplings and their congee (serve in individual portion). Their dimsums are one of the better one I had eaten and will definitely be back for more!
