There was a good combination of condiments including jelly fish which makes the dish very special. The dish looked very appetising and colourful.  The combination of the seasoning makes the taste a bit more sourish than the typical yusheng.

The roasted chicken comes with a special garlic powder which added to the taste and made the dish more fragrant. The chicken was well roasted and juicy.  The chicken was quite large and meaty.

The pig trotter was quite a large piece.  The meat was very tender and the gravy was especially tasty with the Fatt Choy.  It was well braised and the pig skin melted in the mouth.  It came with some lettuce which helped to absorb the fatty juice and made the lettuce fantastically tasty.

The rice had good flavour, however, the rice was not well cooked.  If the rice had been a bit more cooked, it would definitely be a great delicious dish!  It is a good idea to present fried rice in a lotus leaf.

The sucking pig skin was very thin and crispy. The meat was unusually tender and juicy. There were no fats found below the skin, making it easy to eat. Some of us who are very health conscious would not need to remove the fats before eating the crispy skin. The size of the pig can feed about 6 to 10 person.

First dish is none other than the Salmon Yu Sheng ($38+/$68+). With the recent scares relating to salmon or some of the other raw fishes, Yum Cha reassures you by only using Salmon from Norway and AVA Certified Supplier that are safe for consumption. Something tasted a little unique in the Yu Sheng, and we came to know that, the sauces used were made by Yum Cha themselves, and there’s presence of dried orange peel which i thought was kind of unusual but it had definitely added colors and flavors to the plate of yu sheng. The shredded vegetables used were very fresh, sauces has a sweet and sour note and the flour crisps were crispy.

Another highlight of the night – BBQ Suckling Pig ($118+/$220+). One WOW factor for this suckling pig is definitely how the skin remains crackling for a take-away and consider the time we took to take all the food photos. The layer of crackling skin, fats and meat were well roasted and well segregated from one another. People like me who doesn’t like the fatty portion, can easily remove it from the skin and meat. If the meat is a little more juicy, it will be perfect!

Fried Crispy Chicken ($40+). I like how the skin is deep fried to crispy and non-fattening. The meat goes well with sweet thai chilli sauce. It will be better if the meat is more tender and juicy as it felt a little dry to me even at the thigh part which was a little disappointing.

I’m not a pig trotters person but the tender and almost melt in your mouth pork from Braised Pig Trotters with Fatt Choy ($38+) has totally win my heart and soul over. The braised stew was rich and flavorsome and the soft cabbage and fatt choy has almost locked in all the essence from the dish.

Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage in Lotus Leaf ($38+) was a little special with a hint of flavor and texture similar to that of glutinous rice wrapped in lotus. All the ingredients were chopped to small dices and stir fry together with hei bee, but the fragrance of hei bee and the accompanying ingredients seems to be missing in the dish. It’s a little dry overall too.

All in all, there are some hit and misses to the Chinese New Year Takeaway Menu so you just have to order the right dishes! It’s my pleasure to be invited by Openrice and Yum Cha for the food tasting session.

The chicken is roasted with crispy skin and minimum oil left on the skin and topped with garlic bits. The fresh tastes yummy when dip with the special blended sweet sauce.

The BBQ Suckling Pig was very well BBQ and was done in a very nice even brown colour and not charred. The skin was super-crispy and seasonings just right. The fresh was also very tender and juicy to eat on its own.

Yum Cha - Braised Pig’s trotter with “Fatt Choy” Black Moss - $38 for half of trotter
The braised Pig’s trotter with “Fatt Choy” Black Moss is not oily at all. The tendons of the trotter are intact and that was my favourite, it is springy. The meat is tender, juicy, and well-seasoned too and goes well with the special belachan chilli sauce.

Yum Cha - Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage in Lotus Leaf - $38
The first mouthful impresses me with the fragrant of the Chinese sausage. Besides that, it has other ingredients such as dried shrimps, etc. The black sauce was just right and on the whole the rice is very tasty and yummy and can eat on its own.

Yum Cha Restaurants known for mouth-watering dim sum delicacies has always been a family favourite and we visited there annually for our chinese new year reunion dim sum brunch. My fondest childhood memories were created there, enjoying dim sum with extended family members.

One key thing to note is that since this is a takeaway menu, we didn't dine in at Yum Cha restaurant. To provide the actual feel of a delivery, everything was served just like how it would've been at your own home. The drinks came in cardboard packaging at 1Litre each, we had Barley drink or chinese tea.

The barley drink was really sweet, and you would need some ice to chill the drink as well. The chinese tea stayed warm throughout our 2 hours of food tasting!

So how does food that get delivered to you taste in comparison to eating straight at Yum Cha? Yum Cha did their researched and went with  Cook Tek which is a delivery bag that uses induction to keep all the food warm so that it arrives at your door step piping hot!!

This is no normal delivery bag, it actually requires charging and has a battery to power up the induction fans to circulate the heat within the bag! Kudos to Yum Cha for the taking innovative effort to let us have warm food!

A usual offering at all CNY dinner. Fresh fish coupled with fresh ingredients makes this dish a great start to the dinner.

I rarely enjoy eating yusheng but I really enjoyed Yum Cha's salmon yusheng. Their salmon are from AVA certified suppliers and from Norway. So rest assured with all the salmon scares you've seen in the news lately, or just give me all the salmon
I'll happily eat them for you!

Prepared with jellyfish, pomelo, home made sauces, the Yum Cha staff, Adam went ahead to bless us in the according order as he drizzled the condiments all over the yusheng. I really liked their sour plum sauce. It was slightly sour and yet not too sweet, giving the yusheng the right taste for me.

As with most chinese tradition, you either get a duck or a chicken during a reunion meal. Yum Cha also offers a roasted crispy duck whole $60+. The chicken wasn't as tender and soft as I had expected it to be. Rather the meat took some effort to be taken off the bone. The skin as well, was a disappointment as it wasn't as crispy as any roasted crispy chicken experiences I've had.

The skin was crispy but could've been crispier. The meat was juicy and very tasty. Underneath the crispy suckling pig skin was either a very thin layer of fat or no fat at all. You get a lot of meat under the skin! This is one meaty piglet!

The sweet sauce that comes with the suckling pig was also a good compliment to the savoury meat. You could also taste a slight, smokey, burnt taste in every bite of the meat!

I loved braised pig's trotter and this was no exception. Delightfully aromatic and with flavours which are strangely familiar and yet alien to me at the same time, it was love at first sight… or taste rather. It was braised until every sinewy tendon was melt-in-your-mouth, but still held its shape well. The flavour was also very balanced, not too spicy, not too sweet. The skin, the tendons, the flesh had me sold.

Check out the fatt choy! I love how the meat just falls right off the bone and it's so soft and tender. But I also noted there wasn't too much meat in this container, but it is only half a pig's trotter. The rich juices of the braised pig trotters was memorable for me!

The rice was all wrapped up in the Lotus Leaf. Taken straight out of the Cook Tek bag, the rice was piping hot and fragrant. But once cooled, the aroma of the rice went away quickly. The steamed rice was accompanied by quality dried shrimps.

I felt that the rice itself was abit too dry for my liking, it could be that it sat on the table for a while, before I went to help myself with it. But on top of that, the rice could've had more flavour. I found myself mixing the rice with the braised pig trotters sauce in an attempt to add more tastes into the rice.

On top of these items at the food tasting, Yum Cha provides you with other choices to pamper your family members with, such as Abalone Pen Cai that has fish maw, sea cucumbers, dry conpoy, fried oysters, "Fatt Choy" and roasted pork. It's a pot of goodies! They have many more takeway menu items offered at attractive prices, so take a look at their website www.yumcha.com.sg available from 15th January 2016.

Take note : there is a 20% early bird discount for takeaway yu sheng before 7 Feb 2016 and for in-house dining promotions, receive limited edition Yum Cha ang baos when you spend above $100.

The BBQ Suckling Pig was the dish I most enjoyed. Despite the long wait for dinner, the suckling pig slices were still crispy.  Priced at $220 for the whole pig and half portion at $118.00. Nicely grilled and the meat was succulent.

The Braised Pig's Trotter with "Fatt Choy" (Black Moss) dish was cold. The pig trotter was too fatty and the black moss was not evenly spread out. Though there is plenty of gelation in the skin, I could not taste the flavour of pig trotter.

We started of the Food Tasting with a Lo-Hei! The ingredients included in the Lo Hei is pretty normal, which can be found in almost every Lo Hei that we can find outside. Salmon was also included in the Lo Hei, but the salmon is quite normal as well.

We also managed to tasted the Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage in Lotus Leaf. This is one of my most disappointed dish amongst all. The Fried Rice is very dry, perhaps because it's a takeaway menu, thus the rice has turned cold. Nevertheless, that shouldn't be used as an excuse. [Will rate this Fried Rice 1/5]

Next up is the Fried Crispy Chicken! Again, its very dry and cold. Thus, I would say that this dish is not recommended as well. [Will rate this Chicken 1.5/5]

We also tried the Braise Pig's Trotter with 'Fatt Choy'. Didn't tried much of this dish, but I would say that the sauce is not bad. But too much fats. [Will rate this Pig's Trotter 2/5]

Last but not least, its the BBQ Suckling Pig!! I would say that this is the only salvage of that night's Food Tasting! Skin is still crispy after quite a long time. Thus, plus point for this! [Will rate this BBQ Suckling Pig 3/5]

Overall it was still great with the scenery as well as the company! Food definitely got to be improve. Nontheless, please continue to support Yum Cha for their Chinese New Year Menu! [I believe their dine-in menu will be much better!]

With the crowd, our instincts told us to find a nearest restaurant to settle our lunch first, which happened to be Yum Cha.

Yum Cha provides spacious and comfortable seatings, the set ups are in wooden theme, including the floor. We could feel the wooden floor shaking whenever people walked pass us.

Paper wrapped chicken ($4.6) is one of their chef recommended dishes. There were two chicken mid joint wings in each paper bag, making it convenient for sharing. The wings had a fragrant ginger taste and the sauce was thick and flavorful.

The secret of a delicious braised chicken feet lies in the sauce and the readiness of the chicken feet to absorb the sauce. This phoenix claws a.k.a. chicken feet ($4) were 'puff up' well, allowing it to soak up the sweet and spicy sauce to produce a succulent texture. It was so addictive that we ordered a second portion!

I love chee cheong fun, especially the type with fillings. The skin is crucial in this dish, it has to be paper-thin, smooth and slippery. This BBQ pork rice flour roll ($3.6) was decent, but the skin bears similarity to those ready made chee cheong fun which usually accompanied by sweet sauce, a tad too thick in my opinion.

Choosing Chinese-style cuisine whenever Hi-tea with my mummy. Yum Cha was well-known for authentic Dim Sum Delicacies. Comfortable homely restaurant with satisfied staff service, it was now offering buffet for tea time.Signature of the restaurant, the shrimp was chewy and extremely fresh. Plainly looking roll was springy, not over steamed. Price at $4.20, it was definitely worth the value. Fragrant with drizzle of white sesame on top, the crispy ever skin was impressive. Signature of the restaurant, the shrimp was chewy and extremely fresh. Plainly looking roll was springy, not over steamed. Price at $4.20, it was definitely worth the value.

Fragrant with drizzle of white sesame on top, the crispy ever skin was impressive. One of the must-try items in the restaurant, it priced $4.80 for 3 pieces. Somehow I prefer traditional Hong Kong Dim Sum rather than others, it depends the mood and people eating with. I would make my return to Yum Cha, great place.

The food at Yum Cha is a very good representation of good dim sum. The carrot cake was tasty and yet not too oily. The Cheong Fen had a generous portion of fillings (shrimp/ meat) , and the rolled rice was smooth and not too thick. Also, the soy sauce was not too sweet! The custard bun was pretty good too. Served right out of the steamer, the bun was hot and fluffy. The siumai were very delicious too.

Yum Cha is one of the popular places in Singapore for dim sum buffet. Me and my friends were here on a Saturday noon and the restaurant is pretty crowded. Luckily we have made reservation beforehand. We ordered quite a bit of stuffs which include Char Shao Shu, Siew Mai, Pork dumplings, Carrot Cake, Chao Siew Bun (in the photos). Xiao Long Bao, Egg tarts, Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf (not in photo). I would say that overall the food standard there is quite average, will go there for the quantity

However their Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf is a must try! very delicious. Also, the service of the staffs can be greatly improve. Some of them are rather impatient and they don't smile!

The combination of the soft skin and the fresh prawn, ice you bite in your mouth, the juice from the prawn leak out and is trapped inside the skin, which when you eat the whole prawn dumpling together, it's really nice.

Yum Cha Restaurant has recently become my favourite dim sum haunts, especially since it is located within Chinatown and a walk away from Tanjong Pagar area where I love wandering about. This post is a combination of two visits - yes, I can't eat that much in one seating even though I love dim sum. I don't think a reservation is necessary during weekday evenings (around 7pm - 8pm), I walked in twice and on both occasions, the restaurant is only half-filled. Yum Cha Restaurant would prepare some peanuts as appetizer - they are chargeable if you don't send them away. Next they will ask you what Chinese Tea ($3/pot) you would like, with quite a limited choice with long jing, tie guan yin and pu-er. I'm not particular nor proficient with tasting Chinese tea, but it is fragrant enough for the untrained nose.

Scallop Pea Shoot Dumpling ($4.80) - recommended: I was quite surprised by its cute presentation and even more impressed by the juicy scallop and delightful combination with the prawns within. I would definitely recommend you to try this one!

Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice ($4.20): This is rather filling and worth the stomach space, I would say. The ingredients within this is very generous, with black fungus, pork and much more. Generally an okay dish.

Yum Cha Prawn Dumpling ($4.80) - recommended: Their rendition of har gao is definitely above average, the skin of this dim sum managed to wrap the succulent prawns tightly but yet it is not too thick. I like this one.

Chee Cheong Fun - recommended: It is a must to order this when you are here, their chee cheong fun is easily the best I've eaten anywhere. It is soft and smooth but yet did not lose its texture and bite in the process. I love it a lot and this dish alone can draw me back for a fourth visit.

Yum Cha Shark's Fin Xiao Long Bao ($4.80): A mainstay of any dim sum restaurant, Yum Cha's xiao long baos attempt to differentiate themselves with a touch of shark's fin (which is actually tasteless and more of a decorative purpose), but is just average in terms of taste. Nevertheless still satisfying as the meaty broth inside the xiao long bao is not too scalding and savoury enough. For $1.60 a pop - it is a tad too expensive.

BBQ Pork Bun ($2.80): A passable dish, these pork buns are sweet and filling with a fluffy exterior. I like it quite a bit, but other dim sum dishes are more interesting than this.

Prawn & Mango Sesame Fried Fritters ($4.80) - recommended: A very interesting dish with a surprise enshroud inside the crispy aromatic skin - a slice of sweet mango that complements the juicy prawn very well. Thumbs up for this.

The service can be described to be no-frills, efficient and curt. They don't bother with niceties, but you can rest assured that they are very efficient and professional.

Hubby went yum cha with friends and brought back some dim sum for tea break. It has been at least ten years since I last ate at Yum Cha restaurant. Prawn DumplingThe prawn dumplings are not too bad...has fresh crunchy prawn fillings inside. Skin is slightly thick though.Siew MaiThe siew mai here is not as good as before...the filling contains very little prawn meat, it has lost the crunchiness it used to have. Thumbs down.

Soft shell crab. I have eaten many crab but this is different. Its not boiled crab, its fried and yu can still taste a little crab flavour. Mango Pudding is a nice delicious dessert after eating so many oily stuff. Its cooling and the mango is rich in flavourChicken feet may seem a bit not appeatising too many but to me, its a top food that you must eat. The feeling of eating chicken feet is just different from eating a chicken drumstck. You must first suck the chicken feet to savour the flavour
