Tom yum noodles OK Jul 16, 2012
Categories : Shanghainese | Food Court

I have tried this tom yum noodles quite a few times, and I reckon their standard is a bit fluctuate. One day the soup is very rich but on another day, the soup might not be flavourful enough. Perhaps the amount of tom yum paste they used is different? Anyway, it is still my favourite food especially on a rainy day. It is quite well-balanced dish in which you get noodles, vegetables, minced meat and an egg in the bowl.

Hokkien noodles and Hor Fun OK Jul 16, 2012

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese | Coffeeshop | Porridge/Congee

I saw a food review on this old style cafe by a well-known blogger, hence decided to try their signature KL-style Hokkien noodles. Unlike the Singapore style, this KL style Hokkien noodles is stir-fried in dark sauce, the thick noodles has a good texture to chew on. However, this one tastes so-so only, and I'm sure I have tried a better one else-where.

The 'moon-light' hor fun is quite nice though. The flat rice-noodles is flavourful and the raw egg on top adds on an extra bit of moist to the dish.

Soup OK Jul 13, 2012

I was feeling a bit heaty and decided to order the steamed soup to go with my dinner. I had the "old cucumber" with pork ribs soup ($3). The soup base is very sweet, although you can't really see lots of pork ribs inside. There are plenty of old cucumber and a couple of red dates in the steamed soup. I like it because it doesn't taste oily and most importantly you won't feel thirty later of the night, means minimal or no MSG used.

Fish noodles OK Jul 13, 2012
Categories : Hawker Centre

I had this deep-fried fish noodle soup for dinner the other day. Overall speaking, the soup tastes a bit too plain, and I find myself keep using the soy sauce to enhance the flavour for the noodles. The owner of the stall did not offer to add the evaporated milk to the fish noodles (like some stalls do). However, the fish slices itself are fresh, and quite well seasoned.

Fried Kuey Teow OK Jul 13, 2012
Categories : Hawker Centre

This stall is quite popular in the hawker center I guess because you can always see people standing in front waiting for their food.

I tried their Fried Kuey Teow the other day. The portion is quite big for just $3. The kuey teow is stir-fried in dark sauce, with lots of bean sprouts, clams, Chinese sausage slices, deep-fried pork fats etc. The texture is quite smooth and wet due to the gravy. Taste-wise is slightly sweet for me.
