What beats enjoying a hot, fresh-from-oven egg tart? Unlike most egg tarts that are round or oval in shape, Tong Heng’s egg tarts are diamond shaped. The crust is neither a puff pastry nor a shortcrust pastry but it is flaky like the skin of a tau sar piah and tastes like an evenly baked biscuit, packed with a lovely crisp crunch. This is definitely why this egg tart is unique and different from others. I like that the crust is not greasy to the touch and its thickness is about right too.

The custard is wobbly and soft, not overly sweet and has a nice, rich eggy flavour to it. What can I say? This is just addictive!

The husband decided to try the curry puff and pork crisp too. I took a bite of each. While I didn’t think they were spectacular, they were still special because of their Chinese style pastry skin and sweet tasting filling. It’s worth a try if you haven’t had them before but the egg tarts are not to be missed! Die die must try!

whenever I am at chinatown, tong heng always came in my mind... Their egg Tart, in my view the best egg tart... But it must be eat when it is hot... When I take away, the egg tart is cold, egg still juicy and sweet.. but the crust become soggy and soft. I usually would eat it when it is still warm at the shop itself. it taste really great! strongly recommended. I also tried their egg cake, but it taste dry and normal to me. I shall just stick to my favorite egg tart at tong heng.

Tong Heng egg tarts are to die for(!) and as I was around the vicinity, I decided to pop by the confectionery to takeaway some! I was browsing through their display counter and this rainbow kueh lapis caught my attention! I also bought the pork pau to try which was nothing to rave about. The amount of filling is not bad but the taste is only so-so.

This is recommended on tv, we try it, egg taste is rich and fragrant, same as pork lard, too much for me, price a bit steep compared to outside. I love the crust so much, soft and crispy, egg taste very strong, if pork lard put lesser will be better, for old traditional egg tarts, maybe people will like it , but for healthy food, I won't take this, too much pork lard and too strong for me.

At 88 years old and going even stronger!Egg tarts going at $1.40 a piece. This was really not what I had remembered from my childhood days. I ate this when it was still 90 cents a pop and what I remembered was that this was the shortcrust buttery tart pastry I didn't exactly fancy on the egg tart. But today, it tasted different. Egg tarts going at $1.40 a piece. This was really not what I had remembered from my childhood days.

we were there long enough to take the rest of the tray and wait for the next fresh batch.

The ones on the tray were not very palatable. and to be honest, i was a little uninspired.

But come this one. the one pictured, piping hot and causing quite the heat on my hands, but it was delectable this time.

A bite on the side for some crust and filling then slowly sipping on the sweetened egg fillings before devouring the crusts.

this was really a nightmare since i felt like i could possible down another and another.

I read about the raving reviews of Tong Heng's egg tarts on a food blog sometime ago and it had always been on my mind to try them someday. Today, I was somewhere around Maxwell area and decided to takeaway a box of egg tarts for my family! My first bite into the egg tart was heavenly and the whole tart is gone in less than a minute! My first bite into the egg tart was heavenly and the whole tart is gone in less than a minute! I can literally just pop another egg tart into my mouth again! It is that good!! I had the egg tart cold and I would really love to eat it hot on the spot the next time!

This is the coconut version of the original egg tarts and it is equally divine! There are coconut shreds inside the egg tart, which makes it sweeter than the original ones. The egg tarts here are so far the best ones I have tasted in my life!

I wouldn’t say that the egg tart is extra phenomenal and out of the world, however it definitely is worth the try if you’re big on flaky crusted egg tarts. Once again, a huge thumb up for Tong Heng when it comes to preserving the tradition, delicacies like this are getting harder to obtain by the minute. At Tong Heng, there are 2 types of egg tarts: the traditional ones and the coconut ones, I am not a fan of coconut thus I only bought one coconut egg tart back to try.

What I would say is that, Tong Heng is really good for their eggtarts. As the icing shortcake is too sweet for me ><. And the lotus paste is those hard type rather than the soft type we ate in lotus bun. Thus, i dont recommend the icing shortcake for first timer like me. Or it could also be due to that I have expect too much from Tong Heng.

But overall, you should really try the traditional type of Tong Heng eggtart. It is really delicious as it seen! On the side note, i really like how they keep the traditional feel with modern interior design of the shop. Good place to sit back and relax and a walk at Chinatown.

i really specially love the egg tart from Tong Heng, just look at the colours! NO FILTER! the runny egg and the diamond-shape of the egg tart (usually its' just square or circular) is an attempt to be unique and special

My mom bought home 2 boxes of the egg tarts (around 10+ tarts altogether) and excitedly says this is one of the famous egg tarts in Chinatown. Of cos I would love to try it and I took a bite on the egg tart. OMG. My mom did not lie! The custard of the egg tart is very creamy and thick, and surprisingly not too sweet. The outside pastry is fluffy and flaky and has this very nice buttery smell. I think I ate 3 tarts that night and was so full yet satisfying!

Considering Tong Heng's name/brand is rather established and perhaps the reason for the above market cost which they are selling right now. Due to its goodness, there are many pastries lovers who still do not mind spend abit more to enjoy this wholesome delights!

Their egg tarts are not conventionally shaped and round, but rather, in a unique diamond shape. You could savour their egg tarts after refrigeration, but in my opinion, that wouldn't taste as good as after you've heated it up again. The crust is not those melt-in-your mouth type, but a little more cookie-like. I like it as it is not too sweet.

Their egg tarts and char siew pastry are always the reason for me to go back. I have yet to try something as good as their egg tart. The flaky pasty has got a nice buttery taste and the egg custard with a smooth and soft texture. The char siew pastry has got juicy sweet char siew filling in the equally buttery paste with sesame seeds on top. Their prices have increased through the years but still my top choice for snacks.

I never like egg tarts till I tried the one at South Bridge Road by Tong Heng Specialist in Traditional Chinese Pastries ! My friend bought it for me the first time. It was tasty and crispy. What I like about the egg tart is that it is really crispy on the outside and when you tried the egg filling in the middle of the egg tart, it is so smooth that you can gulp it down. I never stop buying egg tarts whenever im in the area. Yummy! For non- egg tart lovers, go try it ! I bet you will love it lik

What I like about the egg tart is that it is really crispy on the outside and when you tried the egg filling in the middle of the egg tart, it is so smooth that you can gulp it down.

I never stop buying egg tarts whenever im in the area. Yummy!

For non- egg tart lovers, go try it ! I bet you will love it like I do

Prices had increased insignificantly over the years, but it is still worth it.this is their coconut egg tart, my number one top choice. the crust is crispy and the egg and coconut slices blend so wel together that whenever i think of them, i salivate! this is their normal egg tart which is awesome too but i still prefer the coconut flavoured egg tart
