The waiting time for the food to be served is also very short which took about 5-7mins. We ordered several dishes which includes chicken chop, prata, masala thosai as well the chicken and mutton murtubak. The serving of the chicken chop is sufficient for one person and the presentation is quite appealing as well. As for the masala thosai, the size is bigger than what I expected. The thosai also contains a generous amount of the potato fillings. A total of three gravy is given with the thosai and one of which is slightly spicy and salty. All the three gravy goes very well worth the thosai and I can say that it is the best thosai that I have eaten so far. Lastly, the chicken filling for the murtubak is slightly towards the bland side. But with the curry chicken gravy provided, it enhances the bland taste of the chicken. As for the mutton murtubak, the mutton has a chewy texture and is lightly seasoned. Overall, I can say that this is the best thosai and murtubak that I have tasted so far. Price wise is very reasonable and the waiting time is also very short. Will definitely come back to try their other dishes !!

I ordered a chicken murtabak ($6+) to satisfy my cravings, and it tastes exactly like how I expected it to be. Fantastic job with the balance of crispiness and fluffiness of the prata and chicken, to which I mopped up with a good dose of the mildly spicy curry. I love how it tastes very traditional and hit the right spot just as I imagined it to be.

The main highlight of the day was supposedly the prata. It did take quite some time for the prata to serve, so I was kinda disappointed when the pratas arrived cold. They weren't thick or soft enough, and they were difficult to cut, so I didn't like the prata. The curry was not hot either, but the taste was decent and it comes in three forms, Vegetable, Fish or Mutton Curry. While the food was not to my liking, the service was better as they offered to give us the different forms of curry to try when requested and even refilled the plates for us.

Feeling hungry, I decided to try the Chicken Roti John (or you can choose to eat it with mutton). I enjoyed this more than the prata as this one was at least warm when I tucked in. The sauce was only mildly sweet and the bread was soft. I would have preferred if they could add more chicken as it was very limited and it was mostly egg within the buns. Or maybe, it was a good thing that there wasn't alot of chicken because it was quite tasteless and bland. Comparatively, this dish was still alot better though.

I'm not sure I'd say that it was worth it, but my friend claimed that the prata was alot better on his previous visit, so the standard might not be consistent. Overall, the Indian food was decent.

I had a plate of nasi goreng pattaya for $4.50. The pricing is quite reasonable. I was really hungry so it tasted quite yummy to me. The service here is quite slow but since I was with a group of friends, we were chatting and all so it did not really affect us. The chilli sauce was not a lot and the omelette wrapping the rice was a thin layer yet did not break easily. The grains of rice were moist and and sweet. Their menu is quite extensive with many choices.

I admit that I am a little adverse to eating Indian food because I always imagined them to be super spicy (hot & overly-fragrant) but this trip to Al Azhar totally changed my mind. Here is the Thosai Masala, it has three different dips. The yellow curry on the left is the more standard sort of curry in curry chicken rice, it was my 2nd favourite. The white dip in the middle was a bit sour and other than not too much flavour. The red one on the right is my favourite!!! Strange enough since I usually don't eat spicy food but this is with the curry taste and a graceful tinge of spiciness in it.

Love it when it goes with the masala dosa and the potato fillings! Super yummy and on my hungry days I definitely can finish one on my own even though it looks huge.

The teh tarik was okay, not too thick but quite fragrant to drink. Complements the whole meal well.

Might get a little hot due to renovations around but still bearable.

It gets messy, and crowded especially on weekend nights, I lost count how many times we’ve (group of friends) changed our minds whenever it looks like we’re not gonna get a seat anytime soon , let alone food. After queued for a while, the staff was kinda going at a slow pace and when our orders finally came , the plain and egg prata was cold and stale, like the ones left on standby. However the cheese prata was hot and delicious as it's made only when you order. The tissue prata was crispy and sweet, always my favourite to see an outstanding cone shape on a plate.

Overall, I think this place has inconsistent standards of service/food, sometimes it's great sometimes it's so easy to hesitate this option. Usually we all come here only as a "Central" option for location.

Next, is the onions with egg prata. I really love it. The onions inside was raw but it was sweet when i chew on it. The prata was very crispy and taste better than the cheese prata. I guess the cheese affected the texture of the prata making it not as crispy as the onions with egg prata.

The last dish was Roti John! It was served the last and take a very long time to cook. But i was really nice. I like the bread that was toasted and giving it a crispy texture. On top of that they used chicken breast meat which is healthier however is tougher to chew on. The mustard and sweet chili sauce they poured over was nice and i really like it a lot, especially when it is served hot.

It was very hot and stuffy there, therefore i would suggest to wear so light clothing as it is a non air-conditional place. Total we spent $9.20 for each person which i think is reasonable cheap, especially with such nice food.

Palak Paneer is a dish I always have difficulties looking for at Indian restaurants/eateries. This dish is actually an awesome dip that goes well with naan. Made up of blended spinach and little cubes of Indian cheese, it has a robust taste of cream and spinach (think spinach soup, but more savoury and thicker in texture).

Seafood tofu. I really don't like this dish. It doesn't really taste edible when its cooled down to room temperature.

Sirloin steak with mushroom sauce. The meat of the sirloin was tough. But really, Al-Azhar is not a place you should come with high expectations on the beef. God knows why I ordered a steak at an Indian restaurant.

Anyway, the verdict is that the prata rocks - anything that is non-indian cuisine, it's not really worth risking it.

Decided to visit yet another restaurant/cafe/coffeeshop for supper. This one is well-known in Bukit Timah, with lots of hungry Singaporeans visiting them even at night (don't they need to work??) Anyway, it serves a huge selection of dishes from Indian, Malay to even Thai food. Thai food with a local Indian touch. Anyway I ordered some weird fried rice that had tomato sauce. Very forgettable unfortunately but that's probably due to my order. Do get the iced milk tea. It's not diluted and tastes

The mutton naan is so-so. The mutton has a very strong smell and not very nice. The teh tarik we ordered is also too thick and sweet.

Overall the place is a good hang out and there are really a lot of choices on what to eat.

I’ve been coming to Al-azhar for many years, partially due to its location (its near to where I live) and partially due to the food. The only thing to note about Al-Azhar is it is very hot there, and very noisy. Its only good for a meal with a couple of frens, anymore and you’ll find yourself having to shout. And do not wear long sleeved/jackets/leggings/long pants. You will end up sweating over your meal no matter how many milo dinosaurs you order.

The tissue prata cost $2.20 while the egg prata cost $1.50 which came with a plate of curry. The tissue prata was very light and it is not recommended to eat under a fan which will blow your prata away. It was sugary and thick with flour at the bottom, also it was crispy and light on the stomach! The egg prata was like the usual ones, it was crispy on the outside and it is not very thick. The egg wasnt evenly spread out and concentrated on one side.

Nasi Goreng Kampung also known as Kampung Fried Rice. The spices in the fried rice are mixed and suited well together. Unlike other fried rice, ikan bilis or anchovies are added to bring out the kampung style fried rice. I would say that it is best eaten when it is spicy and hot.
