This has to be one of the best deal I enjoyed in 2014 Mayim Chinese Cuisine is located in Northpoint Shopping Mall. We had two good hours to wait before the movie's screening at Yishun Golden Village, so we decided to try Mayim's Buddha Jump Over the Wall and Whole Abalone Set Dinner Menu.Mayim is usually packed with shoppers over the weekend, naturally as people started to enjoy sit down dinner after their "retail therapy". You have to be prepared to wait if you arrive after 7pm during the peak

Mayim Chinese Cuisine is located in Northpoint Shopping Mall. We had two good hours to wait before the movie's screening at Yishun Golden Village, so we decided to try Mayim's Buddha Jump Over the Wall and Whole Abalone Set Dinner Menu.

 Mayim is usually packed with shoppers over the weekend, naturally as people started to enjoy sit down dinner after their "retail therapy". You have to be prepared to wait if you arrive after 7pm during the peak period, especially weekends or Public Holiday. We waited for a good ten minutes before we were ushered to a table for two. There was a long queue behind us.

This Set Dinner Menu was really awesome
. I will introduced each of the dish.

Buddha Jump Over the Wall
This came by default with the set. They did not compromise on the quality though it was part of a set dinner. The original a la carte price was S$28. It was served hot and the Chinese soup consisted of all the goodies you can imagine such as slice abalone, dried scallop, fish maw, mushroom, shark's fin, sea cumcumber, chicken pieces, dried bamboo shoots and chinese ham. I really love it!!!

 New Zealand Deep Green Abalone
This also came by default with the set. Each of us was served a whole piece of abalone. The abalone was from New Zealand and it was very tasty, chewy and amazing. The original a la carte price was S$35. I really love it!

 Stewed Sakura deep sea King Prawn with flavored bean thread
This dish is under Mix & Match Menu which you can select from a listing of dishes as part of the set. The prawn was not as huge as the menu photo but it was very fresh and the skins were easily peeled from the prawn. The bean thread was delicious. I wish they had served more bean thread.

 Golden Prawn Coated with Mayonnaise Sauce
This dish is is under Mix & Match Menu which you can select from a listing of dishes as part of the set. The prawn was fried to the right texture (golden colored) and coated with mayonnaise sauce for the perfect taste!

Golden Fried Scallop stuffed with cuttlefish paste in spiced salt
This dish is under Mix & Match Menu which you can select from a listing of dishes as part of the set. The scallop was huge and enclosed with the "capsule". The external of the "capsule" was covered with cuttlefish. This is the perfect seafood experience when you combine scallop and cuttlefish together!

 Chilled Mango Pudding with Strawberry
This chilled dessert came by default with the set. There were real slices of mango hidden inside the bowl of mango pudding as you digged in. A good comfort food to wrap up for the dinner!

 Overall, we enjoyed our dinner very much. The total worth of the dishes was really more than what you would have paid for, compared to if you have ordered the dish separately. The quality of the food were high. The waitresses' customer services were reasonable as they were too busy serving a crowed and packed restaurant. We would definitely make a return trip.

Had been to Mayim before, I wanted to visit it again. Chinese theme Restaurant, the decor was spacious and traditional. Woody furniture in basic, I like the overall atmosphere.Cutlery was arranged nicely on the table, with Menu beside. The variety was plentiful, each dish had its own picture. Dishes looked attractive with affordable prices, the presentation of the Menu was neat and proficient.I ordered a healthy small pot of Tea. Nothing much special, it was nourish and refreshing.  Handmade noodles here were smooth while did not stick to teeth. The soup was slightly thicker yet the taste was sweet and delicious. The pork was all right, flavourful and stretchable. As conclusion, the food at Mayim was of a good standard and coupled with wallet-friendly price, I like the place.

The skin is very QQ and chewy. The filling inside is very flavourful.

Overall the food tastes average. Quite difficult to get the attention of the staff as they are very busy.

If anyone of you are staying around north area and would like to have a family day out e.g. On a Sunday to dine, I would strongly recommend you guys to try MAYIM which is located at Northpoint Shopping Centre.

Initially, I have this stereotype thinking that restaurant in a mall would be expensive and standard would be so-so. But Mayim changed this concept of mine, not only that i find the pricing is reasonable since its main dishes is usually below < $10, the food is tasty as well! It's so value-for-money, it amazed me!

One look at the menu, you will find a wide range of variety being offered, as they have noodles such as Ramen, Wanton Mee, White Rice, Fried Rice, Porridge, and 2 pages of dim sum to spoil the foodie for choices!

Speaking of it, I am hungry again! As I am dining with my parents, my dad decided to order something heavy like the fried rice as seen above and Hor Fun to be shared and eat among us.

The must ordered i would say is the KIMCHI! Especially those kimchi lovers out there. You must try their chinese-style of kimchi ! The combination of the cabbage and sweet and spicy sauce is simply perfect. We can go on and on by simply eating the kimchi alone. Since the kimchi is FREE-FLOW and count by 50cents per head. Why not!?

So friends, next time when you past by Northpoint and would like to find a restaurant to go. I strongly recommend Mayim to you

She ordered Dan dan mian in soup and I ordered their dry roast pork noodle. At first we wanted to order fried rice, but the customer next to us had a very very big dish of it, and I guess it was too big for us! The jellyfish appetizer consisted of shredded chicken, sliced carrot and jellyfish..was served cold, nothing very special about this dish. The Dan Dan mian was very big bowl. It covered with a lot of sesame and really had a strong taste of it. I wondered if it was a sesame soup?
Minced pork was placed at a side so you can mixed it well before eating. Besides, soup was a little spicy. The roast pork noodle looked like any of the hawker stall's noodle,did not attract me but I was wrong! It was very delicious. The meat was not fat, and skin very crispy. One thing good bout this restaurant was it offered different kind of chilies for the customer. I really enjoyed the green sliced chilies while eating roast pork noodle. It was crunchy and very fresh.

Unfortunately, they didn't served free water but cost $0.30. We might as well pay more for the refillable tea, $1.20 per person.

This is my first time having Mayim... Crunchy and just nice... The peanut sauce too dilute but the peanut chunks added good crunch to chewy minced pork Bursting with flavour... it's high in cholesterol but are not very fatty and it's very soft... Was quite good Jelly-like, it is quite rich, not too sour or sweet, it was just right... The noodles is still smooth, The taste was alright, quite sweet and it is delicious... The service was efficient, with pretty good timing for serving food from the point of ordering...They doesn't seem quite approachable and they are rather averagely professional and presentable...

‘Sou Mei’ Tea with Wolfberry Fruits was fragrant and wolfberry provides lots of health benefits. You can request for the waiter/waitress to refill with hot water whenever you have finished drinking it.

 The Soup ‘La Mian’ topped with slices of classic marinated chickenas promised came with the la mian and chicken in the soup. The la mian is similar to the likes of crystal jade, however, it was slightly harder. The chicken was well marinated; fragrant and tender despite being soaked in the soup. Thought that the chicken was delicious! Disappointingly, the soup base was a tad too salty. This dish would have been great and healthy if it was less salty and vegetables was added.

 The Spiced flavoured ‘la mian’ was topped with minced pork, peanut, seasame & preserved vegetable served in dry with special meat sauce. It was amazing delicious on the first few mouthfuls. However, towards the end, it got too spicy for us. If you have a good tolerance for spicy food, this is a good bet.

Overall, a decent place. During peak periods (weekends), be prepared to queue. Service was prompt and decent.

On the second occasion, went over on a Thursday night for dinner. There was no queue and inside the restaurant, it was half full.

 I thought that I will like this Poached vegetables garnished with mushrooms dish. After all, how bad can you go when you have 3 kinds of mushrooms for a mushroom fan. Sadly, this dish was too salty that it overwhelmed the fragrance of the mushrooms.

 The shredded ham was quick tough. The chicken on the other hand was well marinated. Soft, fragrant and tender. Realised from this visit and the previous that chicken seems to be one of their better dishes.

 Well, the Sauteed Sliced Fish was quite oily. Felt that the flavours of different ingredients were not brought out, resulting in the fish slices being tasteless. Can't even taste the sweetness of the fish. And should it not be fried sliced garlic? Felt that this dish is not value for money. I am sure you can taste better ones at better prices.

 The soup was really average. Felt that it was again overpriced and not valued for money despite the many ingredients. Somehow, the taste of the ingredients was overwhelmed by the amount of sodium. Of course, rice was ordered to go along with these items.

During this second visit, I was quite disappointed with some of their food. However, the positive side is that I realised that their marinated chicken is delicious. This time round their service was not that ideal. Had to call repeatedly before someone came to take our order. In addition, despite us asking for the rice to be served after the first dish came. The rice came only after all our dishes arrive despite us asking for it twice.

Gathering at Mayim

What a feast at Mayim!! It's Chinese style dinner so we ordered to share. More fun "fighting" food with your friends right? So we ordered the crispy pork belly, stir fry beef with garlic, Salad prawns, and crispy fish. The pork belly was really fatty and not something to eat often. But nice to sin once in a while. The beef in garlic was nice! My beef crazy friend was snatching up half the plate. The prawns and fish was quite normal.

Mayim serves quite delectable Chinese food and I will frequently come here with my hubby if we wanted to have Chinese food. Just a week ago, we came here for dinner and ordered several dishes to share. Two particular dishes that I love are the poached vegetable with chicken sauce and the baked spicy chicken wing. The poached vegetable with chicken sauce is very nice. I like the special sauce that accompanies the vegetables. It is so much nicer than using oyster sauce. The baked spicy chicken win

The poached vegetable with chicken sauce is very nice. I like the special sauce that accompanies the vegetables. It is so much nicer than using oyster sauce. The baked spicy chicken wing is very tasty. The seasoning used is just right, not too salty or bland and the spicyness does get you if you eat a lot. Moreover, it being baked meant that it is much healthier and I would always order this dish when I am there.

did not have a very nice meal at the other outlet but my friend want to eat at mayim again so i just go ahead with it. this time we ordered some side dishes to share, they were ok but i think the steam tofu with egg tasted not bad, quite smooth and refreshing. but i think the best so far was the prawn chee chong fun that we ordered. the prawns were quite fresh so was slightly crunchy and the skin was smooth and tasted nice with the soya sauce

went down to mayim for lunch cause my friend want to eat there. i think the place is quite similar to crystal jade but the variety of food was quite different. i ordered the you tiao chee chong fun (炸两) to try since this dish is very rare in singapore. i think the taste was not too bad, quite comparable to what i ate in hong kong. but i felt the you tiao was slightly over fried so it was a little big too hard but on the whole, the dish was still not bad

We had a leisure afternoon tea at Mayim. They serve a range of chinese cuisine from stir fried dishes to la mian to rice to dim sums. We ordered only three dishes, the red bean pancake with banana, egg tarts and the chee cheong fun.The egg tarts have a flaky crust which made it very yummy due to the contrasting textures of the smooth egg custard and the crust. Lastly we had the chee cheong fun with filling. The chee cheong fun is very smooth and simply glides down your throat. We also liked the accompanying sauce for it as it isn't too saltish.

China Dongbei Cuisine for a Change!

Mum's not cooking this weekend as dad is overseas! Hence I suggested that we lunch at Mayim Chinese restaurant at Northpoint.As we reached the restaurant before 12pm we did not have to queue but there were already many tables filled. Is the food here really good? I wondered.... ;)Anyway we decided that we would order 2 staples: 1 rice, 1 noodle, and 3 sides to share amongst 5 of us, instead of having individual courses. Anyway we decided that we would order 2 staples: 1 rice, 1 noodle, and 3 sides to share amongst 5 of us, instead of having individual courses. So here's what we had:

1. Braised E-fu Noodle with Shredded Fresh Mushroom ($10++)

I forgot to take picture of this dish, but it was the best dish we thought we ordered. Hehe. It was a simple dish that was very tasty albeit a bit too oily.

2. Fragrance Stone Bowl Rice ($10.50++)

Compared to the e-fu noodles, this tasted so bland. The stone bowl rice came with minced pork, shredded mushroom, kiyuri, onions, eggs and carrot. It was like a Korean dolsot bibimbap except there was no nice chilli sauce, so maybe that's why it was pretty tasteless. Quite an irony that the english name of this dish is called "Fragrance Stone Bowl Rice" haha.

3. Pan fried Beancurd Sheet with Shredded Mushroom & Carrot ($5.80++)

This is a vegetarian dish, wrapped in beancurd sheet. Other than being quite oily like the e-fu noodles, it was still nice. The beancurd sheet was pan-fried till crispy. Oh btw this dish has a fanciful Chinese name - Suzhou Su-Er (literally vegetarian goose
).

4. Tofu with Picked Cabbage & Spinach ($9.80++)

The tofu was very silky smooth and as they were cut into small pieces, I felt like they could melt in the mouth.
It was stir-fried with french beans, picked cabbage & spinach. Not bad too.

5. Deep Fried Mashed Beancurd Ball ($5++)

I like this dish, as the deep fried mashed beancurd ball was stuffed with mushroom, water chestnut, and carrot served in oyster sauce. Crunchy (probably due to the water chestnut) yet chewy & bouncy texture.

 The dishes here are generally quite oily, guess it's because China Dongbei cuisine are cooked in such a way. So we got quite full even before we could finish all the dishes.

Fortunately there was the pickled cabbage which was a refreshing appetiser to rid that oily feel. The pickled cabbage was charged to each table at 50 cents per person, but it's worth it because it is refillable. Yummy!
We can even buy the bottle of picked cabbage home for $6 per bottle.

To end our lunch on a sweet note, we also ordered 2 desserts to share:

1. Mango Pomelo dessert ($4.50++)

2. D24 Durian Pudding ($5++)

Both desserts were yummy! They used real fruit bits for these 2 desserts, and we could bite into mango and pomelo bits for the first dessert and durian meat for the pudding. Very satisfying choices that I am glad we picked to end the lunch hehe.

Oh btw, the Chinese name for the first dessert was quite fun too. Instead of the usual Yang Zhi Gan Lu name, it was called Yan ZHU Gan Lu, "zhu" for "Pearl".

In Singapore, there is an abundance of places that serve up chinese fare, but there are only some who make the cut. In Yishun, I think that Mayim deserves the title of the best Chinese restaurant, as it really serves up such good food, and I have never once been disappointed. This time when my family patronised this place, we ordered stewed pork, pan-fried gyozas, tofu with mushrooms and beancurd skins (wow extremely soft and bite-worthy!), claypot eggplant with thin sliced pork, tofu, mushrooms

This time when my family patronised this place, we ordered stewed pork, pan-fried gyozas, tofu with mushrooms and beancurd skins (wow extremely soft and bite-worthy!), claypot eggplant with thin sliced pork, tofu, mushrooms and minced beef, and some mock duck vegetarian dish. All of the dishes were absolutely tasty, full of flavour, great sauces and gravies, the meat was so juicy and tender, mushrooms were not hard, I just have to say, that all the dishes were fantastic!
Definitely recommend for those fond of Chinese food.
