We went down to the brunch at Wheelock place this time, and ordered a chocolate cheesecake and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was rather big, and was the size of the plate (as pictured above). However, it was nothing fantastic. The chocolate cheesecake on the other hand, was delicious as usual. There is chocolate at the top and also a chocolate biscuit base, and the whole thing is drizled with chocolate. A tad sweet, but that's how desserts are meant to be, aren't they?

I used to hang out at the NYDC branch in Holland Village during my secondary school days, but seldom go there anymore. Over the years, they have revamped their menu several times already but "The Meatball That Ate Manhattan" ($17.50) is one of their classic dishes that remained. I went for the Gold Fish ($17.80), not expecting the side serve of rice. ONE piece of fish? Come on, nydc, I'm sure you can do better than this. If not for the $5.50 top-up to a meal, the meal would have been thoroughly disappointing. Even then, the top-up wasn't fantastic. It included a drink and the soup-of-the-day. It was also quite difficult to get the attention of the staff. There are many other choices, many more appealing than the lunch here.

NYDC’s lunch break. Once in awhile during the marking exercise, we get an awesomely long lunch break. So where do we go? NYDC. Always available for large group dining. So Wheelock it was for 8 and they had their normal set lunch promotions. Golden chicken at $9.80 was a good choice. Substantial and very hearty. Of course it was also pretty darn oily but hey, you only live once. Then there was the Goldmine. Cheesecake with a scoop of chocolate or vanilla ice cream of choice and chocolate sauce. I

I had the 3 amigos which is meatballs, ham and beef pepperoni in tangy tomato sauce, baked with mozzarella cheese. This is a comfort food type of dish. It's hearty and cheesy and not very good for your cholesterol level but at certain times, that doesn't matter. It's not bad with the meatballs but it is quite gelat after a while so if you plan to save room for some of their awesome desserts, have this to share.

Only 2 other tables were occupied while we were there. Granted it was after the regular lunchtime, slightly after 2pm, but still I expected a bigger crowd, but then Wheelock seemed quiet on the whole.I ordered the Cajun Chicken ($15.50). For the price, the portion seemed small, from the rice to the broccoli to the chicken. If you consider the fact that it was a weekday, then it's even worse. It's not hard to find weekday lunch promotions around $10, even at the Orchard area. The taste was normal

It's not hard to find weekday lunch promotions around $10, even at the Orchard area. The taste was normal, like any other chicken chop. They should have more attractive lunch promotions, or at least increase the portions.

From my personal account, every dining experience with NYDC has been memorable. I remember celebrating my 17th Birthday with 15 of my classmates over their famous chocolate mudpies. Ever since, whenever I see any NYDC restaurants, it reminds me of only one thing – Life… And you just gotta celebrate it!!!

Just last week on Thursday, my colleague and I went to nydc to try out their new menu.

It’s hard to imagine that it has been 17 years since the opening of NYDC. To honour this special occasion on the 18 September this year, NYDC launched a new menu – with lotsa booze!

Here are some of the dishes we tried.

Waldorf with a Hic, $10.80 – Fresh grapes infused with Whiskey. Romaine lettuce tossed with almond flakes, raisins and lemon mayo.

(Salad? What salad? I only saw Whiskey grapes!)

NYDC also came up with different levels of alcohol (for the grapes) to cater to those who are tipsy-prone. You can choose to go for one shot, two shots or three shots.

Yankee’s in Town, $14.80 – Thick garlic bratwurst sausage wrapped in bacon, roasted with hot smokey ranch sauce. Potato wedges and greens to go along.

If I could, I would tabao this and smuggle it into a cinema screening late night movie on a weekend. No, just kidding… Am I?

Skinny Dip Chips, $13.50 – (Very) Spicy Chilli Beef, Creamy Blue Cheese and Artichoke Blend with tortilla chips (to skinny dip).

This is another party platter and great for sharing between 4 or 5 friends.

Next up is my personal favourite…

Romeo & Juliet, $11.90 – Baked rice coated with garlic mayo and bits of sweet corn underneath a melted blanket of mozzarella. Smokey crispy bacon sprinkled liberally over the top.

Like a wholesome true love story, it has to come with layers of flavourful dynamics. It was love at first bite.

Nutty Cookie Cruncher, $7.80 – Blend of cookies, cream, espresso and Bailey’s.

This creamy, buttery, cookie drink also comes with choices of 1, 2, or 3 shots of Bailey’s.

3-some, $11.80 – Made of 3 layers of ice cream, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Strawberry, Strawberry Cheesecake.

Under that promiscuous name is an overload of delicate sweetness – perfect for people with a sweet tooth.

Verdict: I'll definitely return for more to try out more dishes from their new menu... all in the name of fun!

had dinner with friends at NYDC. Mostly i enjoy their steaks, especially when it is grilled to perfection - a must try. Steaks come with side dishes such as fries and salad. the fries is crispy and fragrant. I love the salad, with the balsamic sauce as dressing and vwery refreshing and crunchy vegetables. it is good to have some vege to eat with the meat and carbohydrates.

This is not just a normal piece of grilled chicken, you will be impressed by the juicyness of the chicken breast meat and also how thick and tasty the black pepper gravy has been topped on this chicken meat. The portion is quite generous and good to service for at least 2 adults. This main course is well like by the customers here and sold out really fast when during a weekend lunchor dinner. Too good to be truth!

High and Mighty is a REALLY big and tall chocolate cake. A slice costs $8.50, not sure how much one whole cake costs though. The entire cake is covered in a thin layer of chocolate coating and chocolate cream. The cake is basically just a simple chocolate sponge cake, with layers of chocolate cream in between. Its served with a single dollop of whipped cream and chocolate sauce for decoration. I wouldn't suggest trying to finish it alone. It might look un-filling because of the sponge cake but tr
