Decided to give this place a try after hearing some good reviews about it. Summary would be okay to eat but not really a first choice kind of place. The mushroom soup is super creamy! When I say creamy, I don't mean the texture (it's actually rather watery) but the cream flavour. I prefer it if I can taste more of the mushroom so that I don't feel like I'm drinking down pure cream. Their famed roasted chicken. I ordered half and it's okay. I gotta give them props for not making dry roast chicken

Their famed roasted chicken. I ordered half and it's okay. I gotta give them props for not making dry roast chicken and the mushroom sauce gives the meat some needed flavour. Otherwise, relatively normal.

No! This is bad. Do not order this especially if you like escargot. I can't describe how this taste like but just weird and unpleasant.

Creamy smooth mash potato is hard to get wrong. Very nice with a good amount of butter whipped in.

Their tiramisu is also so-so. You get the alcohol soaked sponge cake but not enough of the chocolate to balance it. The main attraction is that it is served in a jar and that's about it. Okay to eat but don't expect any "WOW" moment.

Have always wanted to try Poulet; one can never not notice the snaking queue during dinner peak hours, so do go early to queue. We waited for about 30 minutes to get a table during dinner time. Ordered their signature dish, the Poulet (half). The dish was prepared extremely quickly (food was served in less than 10 minutes). The chicken was very tender, and the sauce was quite flavourful - by the time you've finished the chicken, there wouldn't be any sauce left; tasted like cream sauce.

We visited the branch at Bugis+ to try out other dishes that Poulet offers. Do read on for our individual dish review!

This time, we tried the Poulet de Cranberry (Half: $17.80; Whole: $30.80) instead of the original-flavored one. The difference is the sauce. Poulet de Cranberry is a twist of cranberry sauce and a dash of double mustard. The cranberry sauce gives the dish an uplifting and appetizing taste to it while the mustard provides a balance to that sour tinge of the cranberry sauce. I would say the sauces do go well with the chicken.

My personal preference is the Original-flavored roti. But, my friend prefers this sauce. Conclusion is that it really depends on personal preference! So, have a try of both sauces to see which one is more pleasing to your taste buds.

Portion of dishes are not too big, so do order your own mains if you're hungry!

The food is overall affordable and tasty. Portions are on the small side alike other French Cuisine.

Whenever I pass by Bugis area, I will definitely try my best to spare some times to visit this restaurant as their Tiramisu is a must buy for me. Even though the outlook may look really simple and unattractive, but the first mouthful of it certainly will make my heart melts. The texture is really smooth and it has the ideal sweetness as well. The coffee flavour is very fragrant and the cream used is fresh and delicious!

Due to the all the reviews online, we decided to order the much raved about poulet roti. Given the great reviews of the poulet roti, we had high expectations for it. Sad to say, we were slightly disappointed as we found it to be average.

We also ordered the mash potato and it was extremely creamy, which is exactly what I love about it. This is probably weird but I like the mashed potato more than the poulet roti.

I think when it comes to dishes that fits the elegant and classy criteria of fine-dining, I would think about carefully crafted if not beautifully plated French food. And sad to say because of this misconception, I find it very hard to convince many of my friends to join me for meals when I have cravings for something French!

Hence, it has spurred me to seek out affordable places for French food in Singapore to blog about. Located at the fourth floor of the newly revamped Bugis Plus is Poulet, a contemporary French bistro which was set up by the Thai Express Group back sometime in 2012.

It is by no coincidence that Poulet (Pronounced as poo-lay) also means chicken in French, giving you a rough what they specialise in: Poulet roti or oven roasted chicken.

My partner and I started off our dinner with the good old French classic, caramelised onion soup. Poulet’s rendition ($5.80) was nothing fancy to boast about. Surely, they were generous with with the onions but I felt the broth could be more richer. But considering the price, I think it’s a fair deal for first timers seeking a pleasant experience.

Cravings are meant to be satisfied. So when my partner said she wanted French Fries ($4.80) I thought why not? How about a generous bucket fit for two? Hmph… I think that’s cool.

Then came our first main course, their famous Poulet Roti ($15.80 Half/ $28.80 Whole). There it was lying in a shallow broth of chardonnay sauce and accompanied by sautéed button mushrooms. We sank our forks and knives, tearing into the tender moist meat. Dunking and stuffing our cheeks with that delicious meat.

On the contrary, our second course didn’t make much of a lasting impression if you ask. Braise De Canard ($15.80) or braised duck leg range somewhere along the salty line. Surely the duck meat falls upon tearing and there was the cranberries to sweeten things up but the sauce was just down right disappointing.

While there were hits and misses, Poulet might be another good alternative to Saveur which is often packed and crowded. I might just come back again to try the other dishes but until then…

It’s one French restaurant blogged and many more to go!

The French Onion Soup ($5.80) might not be the cuppa soup for everyone as they replaced the melty cheese with cheese croutons. Personally, I am a traditionalist who would prefer the version from Taratata Bistrot.

Iberico Pork Belly with French Mustard($15.80)
I have to admit that I was drawn towards the Iberico Pork Belly with French Mustard($15.80) that day. Even though it did not received much praises, I find it to be tastier than those served in other place like here. The tender pork was more flavorful than the chicken on its own but we did not forget the bed of mash that was so irresistibly smooth.

We nearly left without trying the Tiramisu (7.80) as it was out of stock until we were informed that a new batch was available. Chilled, rich creamy mascarpone cheese and the bitter coffee-soaked sponge makes it one of a more memorable tiramisu in Singapore. But still, a more intense alcoholic booze will be ideal.

As an excuse to spend more time chatting, we ordered another dessert that requires 20minutes to make! Tadaa....the golden apple tart with sweet almond fragipane topped with a large ball of vanilla ice cream. The version here is unique for its buttery crumbly base which I have not yet find in other places. Do not miss this if you love apple desserts.

Poulet's prices might be slightly more expensive than Saveur (here) but the ambience is more relaxed and you won't feel rushed to finish your food. Good news is that they have opened a 2nd outlet in Great World City with some new items. And I can't wait to visit that place for their escargots and other french delights!

Anyway, I ordered their signature: the Chicken Roto (half is $15.80) and their mashed potato. I loved the chicken, it was so tender and it was soaked in this creamy white sauce. The mashed potato was mashed really fine. I think it was the softest version I have ever tasted.

However, both my orders were too creamy when combined. So after dinner, I was left with a palate craving for something refreshing.

Poulet is actually a French casual dining restaurant at Bugis+ which is opened by Thai Express group. The restaurant offers affordable French classics to the masses. It is an open concept theme located at level 4 of Bugis+. The restaurant design gives a contemporary and pleasant dinning place for group gathering and couples. We also get to see chefs on action with this new concept.

Here comes the main course that we ordered. Braise de Canard @S$15.80 which serves braised duck leg in sweet wine sauce on baby spinach topped with cranberry and glazed shallot. The meat texture was surprisingly soft and tender and the duck meat was nicely done. However, the sauce wasn't generous enough as i wiped off the sauce before the duck meat finishes.

Here comes the signature dish. Braise de Poulet @S$13.80 which is served slow cooked chicken leg with potato, onion, garlic and leek in white wine sauce. The chicken was slow roast until the skin becomes golden brown. The combination of the roasted chicken with the creamy sauce is splendid.

Dessert is a must after dinner. We ordred Tiramisu @S$7.80. Combination of mascarpone cheese, sponge finger soaked in espresso and rum syrup. The serving is generous and it is just nice for two of us to share. We can taste the tiramisu moist and it is just as delicious as it's look.

To summarize, Poulet serves affordable price and decent French cuisine. We paid S$56.73 which inclusive of 10% service charge and 7%GST for 2 pax.The food is acceptable and par value with the price to pay. As for the services, the staff was friendly when we seek for opinions when ordering. They are quite attentive to customers' orders. The serving time was within 10 minutes which is pretty quick. Thus, this explains their high turnover on lunch and dinner time.

had the misfortune of dining at Poulet before I attended the preview screening of Skyfall at Filmgarde Bugis+.

Before my visit, I heard pretty rave reviews about how Poulet could give the new-age of casual french bistros like Saveur a run for their money, and thus had perpetually long queues. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to get a table when I saw a lull in the queues.

Although I didn't need to queue, it took me and the bf a while to catch the maitre'd's attention - strike one. The second strike was when he came bumbling over with no apologies whatsoever, and proceeded to shuffle us into their noisy cramped grounds - strike two. The last straw came when he adamantly refused to let us have the booth seats, claiming that they were for parties of four, when in fact, there were single lady patrons occupying a few booths - Strikeee 3. Please, if that greasy haired sorry excuse of a man wanted to find single girls to date, do it on your own time.

Determined not to let the little man ruin our experience of the supposedly good food, the bf and I settled in and ordered a few items. For starters, we had bread and butter to share, which was nothing to shout about (unlike Italian restaurants like Da Luca and Basilico).

The main disappointment was in two entrees we had - first, the lamb shank with the teeniest portions of vegetables I've ever seen. I mean, how much does a carrot cost? I'd bring my own to donate to them, if I'd ever step in again -.-

As the caption states, I'm totally unimpressed by the lack of finesse and overtly salty rendition of my favourite dish. Looks like the maitre'd isn't the only person on the hefty side, the chef is pretty heavy-handed with his seasoning too. Perhaps it's a ploy to make everyone purchase their horribly overpriced sides?

the other dish was the rotisserie chicken. servings pathetic, as usual. dry and weirdly seasoned with the cream champignon sauce tainted with their pretentious but horribly executed citron tang. yucks.

I cancelled the tiramisu order, the bf paid, and we left. Which was the best part of the dinner. Exercise caution when reading rave reviews next time, I realized they had to scrape the bottom when inviting bloggers for their food tasting, even casual, unknown bloggers ate for free then. Think about it.

It's no wonder that the service is sub par, afterall, they are with the group that manages Thai Express. I'd think the food offerings would at least have a certain acceptable standard, like Thai Express.

The chicken is roasted until just nice and when bite is not too hard and its taste is just nice to eat together with the sauce.
mushroom is uber nice but the souce is not really enough

The Country Side Mushroom Soup consisted of cream of Wild Mushrooms and Idaho Potato. It was delectable, full of fragrant mushroom flavour with mushrooms bits in creamy sauce. Remind me of Tao's Restaurant's version.

The French Onion Soup was served with caramelised French Onion and Fond De Veau served with Cheese Croutons. I am not an expert in French Onion Soup, felt that it was a tad too sweet for me. But I certainly like the generous amount of caramelised onion given that ensure each mouthful was accompanied by caramelised onion.

Escargot de Bourgogne consisted of half dozen Burgundy Snails served with Tomato Fondue and Almond Garlic Butter. At $8.80, it is quite reasonably priced. I felt that the flavour was not strong enough and as the flavour did not infused into the escargot.

Poulet Roti, their signature roasted chicken was well executed. The bird was brined for a day in a traditional recipe before being placed in the rotisserie for a slow roast. It was superbly tender and moist. With the creamy home-made Mushroom Chardonnay Sauce, it was lip smacking! Worth a try.

Tiramisu an Italian dessert was made from Mascarpone Cheese, Sponge Finger soaked in Espresso and Rum Syrup. The Tiramisu made freshly on a daily basis was served in a glass container. Thumbs up for the presentation. This is a must order, nicely executed.

For a restaurant that has opened for just 1 month, I am won over by the food. During my visit on a weekday lunch hour, the restaurant was full. Service wise, there is room for improvement. It was hard to catch the attention of the staff during the lunch period. As for price, I personally thought that it was quite value for money for food of this quality.

The signature dish over here at Poulet is obviously the chicken (which is really fantastic by the way), but since I'm a sucker for lamb shank, I ordered the Mediterranean Stew Lamb Shank ($15.80). What I really liked about it was the strong taste of lamb - although I understand this is a turn-off for some people. But alas, I've had better lamb shank elsewhere and I would've appreciated it if there were more ingredients in the dish. For dessert, I tried the Caramalised Apple in Puffy Tart ($7.80).

For dessert, I tried the Caramalised Apple in Puffy Tart ($7.80). It was quite good, it wasn't a small, measly portion but a satisfying one. Pastry was a tad too burnt for my taste but I'd order it again when I return.
