Let's start with the first visit.

As it was my first visit, the item that caught my eye was V8 Cafe Signature Dish. After all, the signature dish is the item that will be the differentiating factor.

As it was during lunch time, the dish comes as a set along with soup and drink (Ice Lemon Tea).

The soup of the day was Cream of Mushroom. Somehow what I notice was that it was half filled. Nothing comes free does it? =) It was a decent mushroom soup.

In the V8 Cafe Signature Dish, the main item was the grilled chicken which was accompanied by whipped potato, coleslaw and carrots (boiled). The cheese did not overwhelmed the taste of the chicken. In fact, it complemented the taste. Inside, the chicken is tender and juicy. Outside the skin was crispy at the side. Thought that it was quite an average. But if it is the signature dish for V8 Cafe, then I will disagree as there is nothing special. You can get a similar item at other restaurants or western stalls in coffee shops.

Overall, service and ambience was good. If you find the background music too loud, you can request for the volume to be lowered. Food wise it was average.

Next will be on the 2nd visit. Again, similarly about 70% occupied.

Ordered the Chicken Cutlet $8.80. As it was lunch time, the meal came along with soup of the day and drink (Barley).

The soup of the day was Cream of Mushroom again. Was half-filled. This time the soup was not as decent as the previous time. It was quite salty.

The Chicken Cutlet was served with salad and onion rings. Just 3 pieces of onion rings which were oily. The chicken cutlet was even more oily. Not a decent dish.

Overall, service and ambience was good. But the food this time was way below average - terrible.

The grilled chicken chop mushroom sauce had a certain oomph that I haven't tasted at other places before. The meat was also succulent and soft.

Dislikes
A charge of 30 cents for a cup of ice water (that's probably from the tap). I feel restaurants should never charge patrons for water, especially when there is a 10% service charge.

Spending: About $27

V8 is located in quite a secluded corner in Bugis Junction which is quite easy to miss if you did pay heed to your surroundings. We are 5 gals having a gathering and gals talk at V8 cafe. Luckily we had made a reservation earlier, otherwise there was very crowded.

We have ordered V8 Signature Dish, Sambal salmon with rice, Seafood spaghetti, Fish and Chips, Forest of Mauritius, Pizza and one side dish-calamari.

The Signature dish is grilled chicken with their special sauce. All the western foods chosen have come with 2 side dish- we choose Onion Ring and Potato Wedges, The sambal rice was come with a Tom Yam soup. Most of the food standard were overall at average standard. But the Tom Yam soup taste was a bit weird for us. There is not typical taste as compared to other. Their potions of main dish is quite big and we "tried dying" to finish all the food.

I'd recommend must have the Forest of Mauritius first once served, otherwise the soft shell crab is a bit fishy if it been cold,

Their service is quite nice but I think should increase manpower during peak hour, because we have to wait a while for ordering food.

Right now, they have 15% for Safra member and 10% for BOC credit card holder.

We actually went there about a year ago after some party and we were very hungry. This is a retrospect review but it's still clear in our minds.

Setting - not too hard to find. Seems to be a very packed place for dinner on a weekend. so we thought, so many people, must be good, right? WRONG.

Value - not good since the quality and service wasn't particularly good at all!

Service - terrible. Took AGES for our food and drinks and even just water to arrive at our table. Even taking our order we had to wait for about 15 minutes before someone took our order! Like almost forever. For food we waited about 30 minutes! And the drinks, 25 minutes! And the water 20 minutes! We almost walked out but we were too tired. The staff keep apologising but we were just getting more annoyed by the minute.

Food/Drinks - we had a couple of alcoholic cocktails which we thought were great because we were so thirsty, the drinks were cold, and there must have been loads of sugar syrup in the drinks. We got a bit tipsy before we started on the food. Well, we were slightly tipsy and tired when we got there anyway. Plus the drinks were so colourful...

We had their potato wedges which was alright. Pretty standard stuff. And when you're tipsy, fried foods taste really good. Oily and hot from the fryer.

Had some Chicken thing which came with pita bread. Did not taste that good and the portion wasn't big at all. The price was pretty big though, for such low quality and quantity. The sides were pretty bad. Fries were rather yuck and the coleslaw was old.

Grilled chicken with bacon and cheese wasn't that good either. I don't think we finished our food because it just wasn't very good. Dry and not fresh! A couple pieces of limp vegetables accompany your food but it's so soft it's like fake food!

The soups obviously came out of a can. We didn't wait around for desserts and left the place as soon as possible. Not recommended due to the price not remotely reflecting the quality. Too expensive for such low quality food. and service.

I ordered the Chicken Baked Rice. It is nice, the generous amount of cheese on the rice is heavenly. But one thing for sure, you got to be patient to wait for this dish especially when it’s crowded on weekends. There’s this omelette which is not that bad too. I loved the oreo cheesecake and the aloe vera drink (dunno is it still in the menu)A great place value for money.

V8 Cafe is one of the popular youngters' hang out restaurant at Bugis area. @ V8 Cafe offer affordable western and asian food that best suit the students' budget. There are still rooms for improvement. My verdict: 6/10

I took the V8 signature dish, and i would say that it has both quality and quantity. Nothing can goes wrong with fried chicken topped with cheese. The baby carrot was boiled for too long though, and it was no longer sweet, which i think is quite wasted. It came with a complimentary soup of the day, which is not really worth the try but no complains there since it is complimentary. I was so full after the meal.

They have birthday ice-cream too. When they serve you the ice-cream, apparently they'll play the "Happy Birthday" song... So the entire restaurant knows it's your birthday..

Family oriented restaurant with clean baby-chairs and children cutlery. Safra members enjoy 15% disc on total bill.

Go try them youself to believe...
