Yum Cha has become pretty much an integral part of leisure. Few activities come close to matching the relaxation and enjoyment supping over good dim sum and hot tea over a lazy morning/afternoon. My quest to find delicious dim sum (with the added criteria of not breaking the bank) brought be to Shi Wei Xian Hong Kong Dim Sum. A stall nestled within a coffee shop in the qui...

When I first stepped into La Marelle, I thought a Candy Crush bomb exploded in it. Located on the second floor of a shophouse at Bagdhad Street (near Arab St), the bright airy cafe was adorned with colourful walls decorated with cloud and raindrops motifs, flowery paper lanterns, whimsical decorations and merchandise for sale. I went to La Marelle twice actually. The first t...

Armed with our groupon voucher of $5.90 for 2 scoops of Artisan Gelato from Alfero, we trooped down to their spanking new outlet at Orchard Gateway (otherwise known as the mall squeezed between Somerset 313 and Orchard Central. Hidden in the basement, Alfero is tucked amongst the many F&B options in Orchard Gateway and with its chic black interior, could have been eas...

The spaghetti cooked with the chunky tomato sauce and served with a slice of juicy pan fried chicken breast. The spaghetti was perfectly cooekd and soaked up all the goodness from the tomato sauce. The downside was that the dish tasted slightly bland - few dashes of salt could solve the problem. The breast seem out of place (didnt really merge with the dish).
Many ramen joints have been sprouting around the island. Most of them being in town, I was especially happy that a reputable ramen joint opened near my place of residence. Opened by the Breadtalk Group, which opened the Ramenplay chain of ramen restaurants, I was quite confident that Sanpoutei wouldn't disappoint. Bouyed by the fact that a queue is often seen at Sanpoutei, I knew...
Stumbled upon this newly opened cafe at Dunlop Street and was recommended by the enthusiastic staff to try this le char kuey. Was not sure what it was but no regrets! Tried their best seller Dry Laksa, portion was generous. The le char kuey, something like a baguette made from youtiao, was delicious! Very innovative and never came across elsewhere. Coffee was better than ex...

http://phuachiuyen.wordpress.com/2011/05/31/choco-italiano-pastamania/ A very chocolatey bite from Pastamania! The chocolate was real thick and oozing out. It's hot! The nuts were very crunchy and was a good companion of the chocolate italiano. The strawberry makes it look more presentable and tasty to eat. However, I think it would be good if there were more fruits o...
My darling wife had gone to this makan place with her friends during the recent Ramadhan. I hadn't heard much about Penang Culture before that. Many months later, we finally got the chance to visit and tuck in to some Penang-style cuisine. The first thing that surprised us after browsing through the menu was that they offered not only Penang favourites but even some other dishes th...
There were 3 levels of spiciness to choose from - Red, black and white. I tried the Black Spicy Ramen which was a peppery and spicy mix for broth. The noodles were tangy and the pork slices were soft and tender but I would have liked the yolk of the ramen egg to be a tad more underdone. I must say that with practically the entire foodie world raving about Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu ...
A light snack at Old Change Kee at 313@Somerset. The Yam cake they are selling cost S$1.00. It is piping hot as they are freshly fried. The Yam cake is soft. It is very oily. There isn't any bits of yam in it so there is no yam taste. Just tasted like any carrot cake instead.

These successful kitchen experiments, which were the results of his childhood memories and travels across Southeast Asia, can now be ...

Had a really good cheesecake and triple chocolate cake from Canelé on my birthday last month. I went to check out their all day breakfast menu. Definitely one of the better California Roll I've tried altogether in town. Ichiban Sushi located at Toa Payoh HDB hub is like one of the only choices for dinner if you are looking for a restaurant after a long day at work. From a wide range of conveyor belt sushi to shashimi to udon and other Japanese food, this is the ideal place for dinner with love ones, they are just beside ...
I heard about d'Good Cafe on Facebook and learnt that they had $6.50 sets of a cake and drink on weekdays from 2-6pm, so I decided to bring a friend along to Holland after a tiring day at school for tea. The cafe is within walking distance from Holland MRT. It was a little confusing at first as we saw a clinic on the first floor where d'Good Cafe was supposed to be. We did ...
