Shredded chicken porridge consists of fine shredded chicken all over in the bowl of porridge, however I prefer thicker shredded chicken as it will give me more "bite" and the kick, else it doesnt taste like having chicken.

Service
Service is quite fast and average.

Ambience
Located as shop houses. The crowd and human traffic are still alright. However the irritating scene during my meal was those houseflies that flied around my food.

Fish is pretty fresh and well prepared, thinly sliced with drizzling of sesame oil, lime, cut chilli and plenty of garnishing. Sliced fishes were odorless, perhaps the heavy usuage of garnishing had taken all away.

As I opened the box and enjoyed my packet of joy, the aroma diffuses quickly and seeps through the door gaps into another department, arousing curiosity from my other colleagues.

Uniquely served without the usual crackers and other condiments we find from most Yu Sheng!

A regular of Ah Chiang's porridge, we will usually try to eat there at least once a month. I like the taste of food cooked over charcoal, and Ah Chiang's porridge is no exception. Had the raw fish this time round. Marvelous, whoever thought of eating raw fish must have been pretty famished and upon eating it, must have felt like he or she was in heaven.

Mine was the usual fish belly porridge. Still prefer fish belly porridge from maxwell market, zhen zhen. But well, i dont have to wait 45min for this bowl of porridge, so I am not complaining. The porridge here is quite comparable to those offered in Crystal jade. Of course not as fine and smooth, but well cheaper and pretty good too.

Ah Chiang's Porridge is quite popular amongst porridge lover. Not the best but good. Very smooth porridge, maybe too smooth that it got quite soupy after a while. I remember it as being much much better in the past. My all time favourite has always been fish belly porridge. Add some century eggs and it becomes perfect. Warm and comforting. Good for the soul especially during rainy days.

THis porridge sold at more than $3 per bowl is served piping hot. This stall is popular amongst people who love porridge. The porridge is well cooked and not those with rice and water added. It is not too salty which I like as not a lot of soy sauce was added to it. I however found it a little dry at times and sticky as it was cooked and boiled till the rice molecules were very fine. Overall still good to try and the serving is sufficient for a meal.

Having my Ah Chang porridge again. Using charcoal to cook the porridge, it has a thick porridge taste. With the minced meat, the whole porridge is superb. The minced meat is nicely pondered and cooked. It is not too tough to be consumed. However, their price has recently increased as there is a G.S.T of $0.25 incurred.

If you like your porridge to be very nicely cooked until it seems like it is blended, Ah Chiang's porridge will suit you very well. I had the normal plain porridge with raw fish on the side. The consistency of the porridge is like eating thick oatmeal with little milk so it is really spoonfuls of thick gooey porridge that you are getting. The taste of the porridge is a little saltish and it goes well with the raw fish slices. I love the raw fish slices as it is very flavourful with the seasoning

Heard quite a fair bit about Ah Chiang's porridge, which is situated amongst the conservation area of Tiong Bahru and boasts a rich history dating back to 1971. The various media appearances are seemingly testament to its honest to goodness bowls of porridge which are painstakingly cooked over a charcoal stove.

Occupying a corner unit, Ah Chiang's can take about 30 people or so and tables are on a first come first serve basis, very much like any mom and pop coffee shops around. On both occasions that I went, at 1230pm on a Saturday and 1030am on a Sunday, seats were readily available but I understand that long waits are to be expected especially in the morning.

Intestine Porridge with Meatballs - At $6, this was a rather expensive bowl of porridge. The focus was undoubtedly on the porridge, which came across as smooth with bits of grains and didn't seem too starchy. The quantity of ingredients were acceptable at best and if it wasn't for the extra meatballs, the intestines alone would have been a sorry sight. Not that the meatballs or intestines tasted fantastic anyways. I could also detect MSG in the porridge, but I guess that's rather common in porridge nowadays.

Century Egg Porridge with Chicken - The bowl of century egg porridge cost slightly lesser, at $5 for a sprinkling of century egg and chicken slices. As with the previous dish, the porridge itself was the star while the century egg and chicken slices were merely average.

Honestly, I found the porridge quite decent overall, just that prices are a tad too steep.

We kept wanting to eat at this stall for ages and thankfully we finally got to do it one saturday. The place were packed with people who drove expensive big cars and came all the way to eat at this stall. It was a sight to look around and spotted ladies with a huge hairspray hairdo and another holding a Hermes Birkin bag! One of the long time legends around in Singapore that dated all the way back to 1971, this hawker has been hovering on my wishlist for some time and there is no better time to have it up on my site!...Ah Chiang's Porridge, my almost weekly eat out venture that mesmerise me to lay my glutton tongue on the smooth and starchy porridge! My personal favourite!

Love the consistency of the porridge texture on every visit of mine, which pretty much translate on the work that had been put through by the kitchen crew to ensure the quality especially after many hours of hovering under the manually controlled charcoal heat. Faint minced meat consolidation in every mouthful of feasting, coupled with fresh meat ingredients magically transformed a simple hawker fare into something so fulfilling and worthy. The side orders of fresh raw fish, well prepared century eggs and lastly the you tiao is a must have during every visit.

Pleasant warmth within the stomach can never been significant especially after one hard day of work but contrary to a full hard meal. Ah Chiang's Porridge is the ideal choice...light but yet filling to keep one going and kitchen crew never fail to uphold on their quality control and beliefs on their cooking method. One can really ponder how charcoal...something so redundant and unappealing in our daily and BBQ life would play the most crucial part in creating this delicacy.

For all porridge lovers...Tiong Poh Road must be on your GPS list!
