Firstly, the pou luo bao has a slight crispy texture with sufficient char siew fillings in it. The char siew fillings is well seasoned and has a mild sweet taste. Colour wise is not that appealing as only certain part of the bao is lightly brown. Next is the custard egg yolk bun which is my favourite among all the food that we ordered. The fillings has a rich custard egg yolk flavour, and texture wise is not too watery nor too thick and this bun should be eat while its still hot. As for the deep fried fish skin, it has a very crispy texture as the fish skin is thinly sliced. Seasoning wise is a bit too salty. Lastly, the roasted duck taste similar to those normal roasted meat and duck stall except that it comes with a sweet and sour plum sauce to go with the roasted duck. Overall, the food served is still quite tasty and the price wise is still quite reasonable.

I would recommend the honey baked BBQ pork bun, which is a must try for this restaurant. The freshly out of oven, crispy outer layer with a juicy char siew interior is a dish worth ordering. Lava custard bun is a personal favorite of mine. The one at paradise group is not too oily, and and the right amount of "Sha" rough texture given by the egg yolk, accompanied by soft steamy hot bun. I would like a slightly sweeter alternative though!

Their porridge is nice too, and is tasteful enough to be eaten plain. Char Siew noodles are just decent, and the meat has just nice amount of fats. Nothing much to rave over.

Ate at Canton Paradise some time ago with my parents when it first opened.

Here's what we ate:

BBQ Pork Belly

It's roasted, not the usual crispy type.. It tasted alright, though it wasn't soft enough. You know, the "melt in your mouth when you put it in" feeling? Yup, I didn't taste it. The sauce was not bad though!

Plain Porridge

It was good, very soft and tasty. Definitely comparable to Crystal Jade's!

Plain Wanton Noodles

It was rather normal, a little bit hard to chew off.

Har Gao (Shrimp Dumplings)

I LOVE har gao, which is why I say this wasn't one of the best tasting ones for me. I love how juicy it was though!

Custard Buns

This was rather good; the taste of egg yolk wasn't too overwhelming, and you can taste that it was well beaten because it was quite smooth, not the very "sandy" type. The moment you bite it, the egg yolk oozes out almost immediately!

From their "Innovation Dishes", we had the Bacon Roll with Cheese.

It was definitely innovative though it tasted a bit weird.. Good thing was that it wasn't very oily, and come on! Who doesn't love bacon, really!

Osthamus Flower with Watercress Kueh

It has a jelly texture. The osthamus taste was quite mild and the watercress was crispy. Both of them complimented each other quite well, and my parents loved it!

Dough Fritter Chee Cheong Fun

The you tiao (dough fritter) was quite hard to chew off... The Chee Cheong Fun skin was also quite thick :/ You must add the soya sauce that comes together with it as it helps in adding to the flavour of the dish.

The Paradise Group has been rapidly expanding its reach to every corner of Singapore these couple of years, targeting customers from all walks of life with its various dining concepts and unique fares. However, with such rapid expansion, issues such as quality control is definitely a main concern to be addressed.

We’ve been loyal supporters of the Paradise franchise for more than a year now. As it’s my birthday month (meaning I’ll be able to reap 20% rebate), we decided to visit Canton Paradise (Jcube branch) for a catch up session with some old friends (and ultimately, make use of the birthday month privilege). The queue was, as usual, exceptionally long on a Friday night and we waited for almost 30mins to get seated. Sadly, the quality of food has lost its glorious past and the only thing worth reminiscing was the commendable service level (which we were glad the management had maintained at all its branches).

Signature congee ($10.80++)
The congee, consisting of scallops, prawns and grouper fillets, was smooth and silky, just like how Cantonese style congee should be. Although the congee was rich in ingredients, it somehow lacked the flavours, sweetness and essences embodied in the ingredients. Overall, it was still a decent bowl of congee, but definitely not worth the wait and price tag.

BBQ Pork, a.k.a Char Siew ($10.80++)
We initially wanted to order a two-dish combination (BBQ Pork + Chicken) but the waiter informed us that the chicken was out of stock. We then requested for roasted duck and again, it was out of stock. Bleh…
In the end, we decided to just have the BBQ Pork only.

By far, this was the highlight of the night. The pork was succulent and tender, with the right mix of fats and meat. The BBQ sauce was tasty and brought out the full flavours of this delectable dish, canton style. We were glad this dish didn’t disappoint us.

Sliced Fish Noodle ($8.80++)
My friend totally regretted ordering this. There were many tiny bones embedded within the grass carp fillet, making it a total nuisance to keep clearing the bones with each single bite. Throughout dinner, my friend was constantly busy trying not to get choked by the bones and had to literally fish out the bones.

Custard Bun ($5.20++ for 3 pcs)
We were awestruck when we first tasted their custard buns, but this time round, we were awfully stricken. The buns were tough and kind of grainy, not the soft and fluffy ones we used to have. The fillings were also a huge disappointment as it was not the smooth, rich and gooey type that burst into immense ecstasy with single bite.
Overall, it was disappointing, even to the point of depressing, to see one of my favourite restaurants experience such a tremendous plunge in food quality.

My two cents worth, keep the servers and change the chef.

To be frank, I preferred the ones at Din Tai Fung than this as the taste not as good over here.

I went there with my parents to have our dinner. I ordered the recommended noodles dish - Jumbo Prawn Wanton Noodles. As the name suggests, the prawn dumplings were quite big and the prawns were succulent and juicy. YUMZ..
The soup and noodles were not too oily and were light and flavoursome. It fitted my palate well.
Other than the wanton noodles, we ordered some dim sum too. They include carrot cake, osmanthus chestnut cake and deep fried prawn and mango - I kinda forgotten the name >< -.
The carrot cake and osmanthus chestnut were very tasty. Not a disappointment at all. However, the deep fried prawn and mango was a total disaster. I'm not a fan of mayonnaise at all when I bit it the mayonnaise came gushing into my mouth. The taste mayonnaise was very strong and sort of destroyed my mood for good food. Thinking of it upsets my appetite, I really dislike mayonnaise
But for mayonnaise fans, do give it a try. The dish actually tasted quite good.

The place is quite crowded during our visit at dinner time. We were given a queue number and then waited to be called. We ordered the signature BBQ pork belly with honey sauce ($15.8). The pork belly is slightly too fat for me, I could barely see any meat but only fat layers. The sauce is thick and sweet, not my favourite dish for sure. I had the Combination congee ($8.8) with three varieties. One can choose the ingredients from the list. I picked the meatball, softbone meatball and pig's kidney, all of which are well-marinated. I personally like the softbone meatball the most, as it has the extra bit of crunchiness.

We ordered the Chilled red bean and yam pastry ($3.5) for dessert. The combination of yam and red bean matches well together. Uniquely tasty.
