What do you usually have for breakfast? My regular choice for breakfast is simple. I do not like it to be too heavy so i usually go for 4 pieces of chwee kuah for only $1.00. Simple but really nice. I usually get it from this particular outlet of their many outlets island wide. I have been one of their regular customers for quite a long while and have become friends with the Auntie taking charge of this stall. I do not have to tell her what i want. She always prepared 4 pieces of chwee kueh with extra preserved radish (chye poh) and extra chilli whenever she spotted me in the queue.

Their chwee kuehs have a nicely soft texture as compared to others that i tried. Their preserved radish have got a nice fragrance with a well-balanced saltiness. The taste is further enhanced by the chilli.

I usually have it with a cup of coffee.

A good choice for breakfast.

By the look of the bright orange laksa gravy and the coconut milk aroma, it is enough to tempt you to this delightful and sinful meal. The laksa noodles are springy, coupled with the spicy chilli paste and fragrant laksa leaves in the broth certainly fits the bill for a good lunch. The laksa has lots of “tau pok” and fishcake which adds much flavours and texture to the laksa.

I was talking to Grandpa about this stall and offered to take away a packet of noodle for his lunch in a particular occasion. He then mentioned he used to bring me there for breakfast when i was really young. I honestly do not remember eating at this stall during those days. I suppose i must be really young to remember it.

I only stumbled upon this stall again after i gotten back from the US by chance. I started eating at this stall again on a regular basis. I came to know about this stall in the booklet published by Makansutra, it stated 6 chopsticks were awarded to this stall to give it the 'Die Die Must Try' status. I went to try and i am hooked since then.

I remember reading a recent article reporting that this stall offers one of the best Mee Pok in Singapore. Their springy mee pok has always been my personal favorite but i do like the kway teow too. I have mentioned before other than the skillfulness in cooking the noodle, their secret recipe has gotta be their chilli. This stall is officially closed on every Friday and Monday to prepare their chilli. They are often closed on ah hoc basis too. The current owner is the 2nd generation and he is already in his 70s and perhaps that might be part of the reason that they usually closed irregularly.

After all these years, they still served one of the best mee pok and kway teow mee in Singapore. I am always there to take away the kway teow dry for my grandparents and even after 10 minutes of travelling time from there to their house, the 2 packets of kway teow dry are still not meshy. My grandparents can even eat it with a pair of chop sticks. This is how skillful the old Uncle is in cooking the noodle.

A basic bowl of noodle is at $3.00 and it consists of 2 fish balls, a few slices of few cake and lean meat and a big piece of mushroom.

The waiting time can be a nightmare if you happen to come during their peak period. I usually come after breakfast but before lunch and i always try to avoid weekends and public holidays. And please come before 1.30 pm as they usually sold out before 2pm. And after the recent reporting on the newspaper, they tend to be sold out off even earlier.

As mentioned in the earlier part of the review, the Uncle is in his 70s and is going to retire after the lease of his stall is up in 5 years time. His son, who is also his current assistant is not interested in taking over his business and so hurry, if you want a taste of the legacy before the gone of yet another legend.

This chicken rice stall is one of the longest surviving stalls in this food centre. It might not be the best tasting chicken rice but if you are hungry and looking for something to feed the tummy then this might not be too bad a choice. The rice has got a very slight chicken broth taste and the roasted chicken tasted pretty alright. The chilli was rather average too. The good thing is the portion given was rather generous for $3.00.

Waking up to a breakfast as simple as fried bee hoon with fried egg and luncheon meat sometimes can be quite nice too. The fried bee hoon fried really well with pieces of shredded carrot, beansprouts and cabbage at the right level of saltiness. I added a fried egg and a piece of luncheon meat for only $1.90. It can be quite a satisfying yet filling breakfast to start a fresh day. It is a simple yet economical choice for breakfast.

This stall is manned by a chinese couple and their mee siam is towards the sweeter version, quite different from what you will get from an indian or a malay stall serving this dish. It reminded me of a particular stall selling this dish in the school canteen many many years ago.

Simple food but nice. A good way to reminisce the taste of old times.

I went hunting for an alternative and spotted this fish soup stall. The turnover rate for stalls at this food centre is pretty high and this fish soup stall is amongst one of those longest surviving stalls in this food centre. For that, this stall is definitely worth trying.

For $4.00, i have gotten a few small pieces of fried fish with tofu, veggies and chinese seaweed. The soup was clear with only a slight peppery taste. It can be very healthy tasting if you are happened to be one of those health conscious ones and for those prefer their foods to be a little more exciting, it tasted pretty bland.

All in all, it was an acceptable lunch experience. But no, i might not go back again as i still prefer to go back to my regular stall at Amoy Street Food Centre if i want a fix of fish soup and rice. It might be worth a try if you are in this food centre and not knowing what to eat.

I like spending my Sunday mornings having brunch with my family at Xin Mei Congee. Its so ideal for brunch, filling enough to last you for the day until before dinner. I particularly like the fish porridge which is not at all fishy, but nicely marinated to give it a sweet taste. The congee itself is also very smooth. Yummy!

Damage is $2.50 for a normal bowl and i tried to big bowl with ribs which was $4.00 which is still affordable as compared to the 5~8 dollars ones found elsewhere.

This is definitely one of the best porridge i've tried so far. It's very smooth and level of creamy just nice! Not too watery and not too thick for me. They are quite generous in the chicken meat serving for my chicken porridge and provide the " you tiao" to go with the porridge for a mere S$2.50 only. No wonder there's always a queue in this stall! simply love it!

I do not recommend the laksa, as I felt that the gravy was not as nice. It looks and tastes like the coconut milk was not cooked in the right way.

Just go for the lor mee!

The fish porridge is thick and smooth and always contains lots of pieces of fish. The porridge is also very well-seasoned and fragrant. Most importantly, the fish is fresh and does not have any fishy smell. Further, the slices of fish are tender and sweet. Additionally, the porridge also comes with the fried you tiao which goes well with the porridge.

This particular one is no doubt one of the better Nasi Lemak around and the only pity is they replaced the usual fried egg with a piece of egg omelette together with fried chicken wing and some peanuts for only $2.00. The rice is moist and fragrant, i can taste the distinct coconut taste. The sambal chilli was rather good too. The star is definitely the fried chicken wing, well marinated and perfectly fried. It definitely value for money for something at $2.00, cheap and yet satisfying.
