Even though it isn't exactly cheap, the roll is worth every cent.

We also ordered the swordfish (mekajiki) sashimi. The sashimi is undoubtedly quite fresh, and prices are reasonable.

I would say that this is probably the best Japanese food you'll get for the price. Unfortunately, perhaps because of our bad luck, it was a good 20 minutes before we were served (we came just as the restaurant opened). Will be returning, in hope of better service, and to try more dishes.

My sister who had been here multiple times since her first visit a few weeks back, insisted that for once I take the backseat and allow her to do the ordering instead. The excitement was definitely mounting and when this gorgeous platter soon arrived, I wanted to pick a roll up with my chopsticks almost instantly, but luckily I remembered to first capture a few shots.

Salmon Aburi Roll $13.90 (8 rolls)

These lovely cylindrical pieces were exactly what I had been searching for! Substantial and packed with ingredients for that variety of colour and textures. Extremely delightful and satisfying.

Soft Shell Crab Salmon Aburi Roll $15.90 (8 rolls)

And while I thought the regular Aburi Salmon Roll was good, this one blew me away. I loved how you could actually taste the soft shell crab despite everything else going on in the roll. While the crab usually gets drowned out in a sushi roll, this time instead, it accentuated the lightly charred salmon piece sitting on top with its saltiness and crunch. This was truly a stand-out.

Sirloin Steak $14.90 (100gm), $28.90 (200gm)

This beauty was quite the charmer with its gorgeous marbling and sweetness. Seared only on the exterior with the centre of every slice still red with that layer of fat so sinfully juicy and meat so tender. Dip it into the sauces served at the side and eat it with the garlic chips for a complete experience.

Tofu Cheese Cake $4.50

And ending that fantastic meal with the only dessert offering on the menu, this tofu cheese cake was silken smooth and creamy good. The mild cheese flavour meant that it wasnt too heavy or filling and believing that our cake was healthy because there was tofu in it, had us wanting for more!

The Sushi Bar is truly a hidden gem with very affordable prices and most importantly, quality and freshness of ingredients. All prices are also nett with lunch specials of bento sets available too! Can definitely see myself coming back again and again for that amazing Soft Shell Crab Salmon Aburi Roll and Sirloin Steak. And, Sashimi lovers, you will be in for a treat with the wide variety of fish offered here.

The Sushi Bar, you are really something special.

This is my 2nd visit to the sushi bar. They had taken over the unit beside them which make the restaurant more spacious. Maybe because of the larger space, the prices on their menu had also increased. Tako Sashimi - 4 thick pieces of octopus sashimi. It was quite fresh and juicy. Chicken cutlet curry rice - The chicken cutlet was well seasoned and it was not too dry even though it was deep fried. The curry sauce tasted a little sweet but it does mix well with the cutlet.

Got home and boy was I in for a treat. The unhappiness I felt from the lacked in service earlier evaporated into thin air. There's aburi majuro n aburi salmon. Fresh sashimi includes salmon, hamachi, mekajiki, maguro, taro, hotate 3 thick slices of each variety. Then there's also tamagoyaki and generous sprinkle of ikura. All in a very delicious chirashi don and definitely value for money!

Seats are always limited and been a few times but the staff were never polite. Anyways, I am there for the food so it doesn’t really bothers me that’s why I always back there again.

Located at 3rd floor of Far East Plaza, its a perfect place to have some sushi while shopping there. The interior of the shop does not look very impressive and it is very small. However the food did not disappoint. I went with a friend and we ordered 2 sushi roll. The main highlight will be the Salmon Aburi Roll $13.90 (second row of sushi in the picture). It is one of the best salmon roll that i have!! Salmon is perfectly done and the avocado is fresh and compliments with the sauce and salmon.

I can't begin to describe how much I can't stand bad service. At The Sushi Bar, they're not at all attentive, super slow and a little rude, in my honest opinion. But whatever, the food is good and that's part of what matters. This is the Salmon Don. Fish was pretty fresh and the rice was truly superb, really sticky and just the right amount of sweetness - exactly how I like it. Will come back, provided I have patience for the service the day I decide to visit again.

Spotted this little sushi area at FEP and was curious about their food. So me and my friends asked for seats but the staff were quite rude! Took them awhile to even bother with us and show us to a table. There weren't many people there either so I'm not sure why the service was so poor. It also took them a long time to get our order and the food takes awhile to prepare so not a place to go if you are in a hurry. I tried their Chirashi and I got to say it was a nicely presented dish. I tried their Chirashi and I got to say it was a nicely presented dish. Thick slices of fish and scallops. My favourite item has got to be that scallop. They only gave ONE but it was the best bite out of the entire meal. I would recommend this as I feel the seafood is fresh and generous. Just beware of the service.

Sirloin Steak ($14.90, 100gm)

Thinly sliced and cooked to medium rare just as how I typically like my steak to be, this was quite an appetising dish. The steak was tender enough and it actually went very well with the fish roe and the sauces they gave. It was however, a little too chewy for my liking, and I thought it was quite pricey for such a small dish!

Ebi Fry Temaki ($3.90)

An above average dish of ebi maki that has got a crunchy ebi breaded in a thin layer, wrapped in a maki together with fish roe. I loved the textures presented and that the ebi was of a pretty decent freshness. It retained the natural sweetness of prawns and had a slight bounce to it. The seaweed wrap was a little too sticky though, and I would have preferred it with less rice to it.

Soft Shell Crab Salmon Aburi Roll ($15.90)

This was an uncanny resemblance to the Crappy Maki I've tried at Koh Grill & Sushi Bar. I'm not a fan of raw sashimi, but I must say this aburi (partly grilled and partly raw) salmon was done really well! The salmon was sliced to the right thickness such that after grilling, it was just a thin layer of raw portion and I liked the balance of it. The one at Koh was slightly too raw for my liking due to the thicker slab of swordfish belly used.

As for the maki itself, I like the textures of soft avocado with the crispy soft shell crab combined. However, I felt that the portion of soft shell crab was too small and it didn't feel like the star of the dish. There was slightly too much rice as well, and well having tried the Crappy Maki, I was pretty sold on having fish roe to go along with the dish.

Wafu Spaghetti ($10.90)

It definitely didn't look appetising with the lacklustre colour, and seeing how creamy it was kinda turned me off initially as I thought it'd be a 'jelat' dish. Much to my surprise as I took on the first mouthful, it was a rich and smooth base with angel hair pasta and a slight crunch after mixing in the fish roe. It was quite an interesting combination but I probably wouldn't be able to enjoy it on my own with such strong flavours. I reckon that it probably wouldn't taste as good if it were to be used with the usual spaghetti or linguine pasta. Great choice of angel hair so it won't get too 'jelat' and of course, best to be a shared dish!
Nom Factor: 7.0/10

It was kinda hard for me not to compare it with Koh Grill & Sushi Bar after having tried it recently and some similar dishes. Overall, I felt that this was just an alright place and probably not worth it given the pretty steep prices. There wasn't really a signature must-try dish that was worth the queue and most of it was just average. Service, though, was excellent and the service crew was extremely attentive which helped make our dining experience a whole lot better. Not a place to go specially for sushi, but probably good for satisfying some cravings.
Overall Nom Factor: 7.0/10

Overall, I think for the food, I will be back to The Sushi Bar! Especially for the Salmon Aburi Roll. With no gst and service charge, the Sushi Bar only accept cash which I'm totally fine. The prices are definitely reasonable for the quality of food. There is not much of an ambience I would say. But, what more could you ask for?

She was well-versed with the menu and the food to recommend. With no pretentious settings and reasonable pricing, the place is a real precious! But it is still the best kept secret in Orchard, so ssshhhh...The chef behind the small open kitchen is friendly too, a young chap of probably 20s, really have carve a future in this arena, KUDOS!

THE SUSHI BAR

#03-89 Far East Plaza, 14 Scotts Road
Opening hours: 12pm- 9.30pm

The service girl recommended us salmon sashimi, Chicken Katsu Don and on our end we wanted to try the chanwanmushi, tuna and tamgo sushi. It was a table filled of food really!

Salmon sashimi was really fresh, you can taste the tenderness of the fish, simply oiishi to the max!

Chawanmushi tasted great too; the pudding-like texture just slide down your throat like water, smooth but not watery. The amount of sides in it complement the smooth egg mixture and of course the sweetness of the chicken stock just level up the simple dish.

And how can you not applaud for the Salmon Aburi Roll?! The blowtorching of the salmon just brings out the sweetness and accompanied with the creamy, miso-mayo sauce and the roe, it is just heavenly! A person who is really carb conscious, just like me, please beware of how fast you can mop up the intricately-plated sushi! It's simply AWE
)

The tuna and tamgo sushi are pretty much above average as compared to the sushi-chains. The sushi rice has the aroma of vinegar and sweetness come running out of it when paired with the sides

The chicken katsu was well fried, not to stale but just taste normal. Nothing to shout or complain, however the sauce could have improved further as it tasted like sweet sauce for the popiah...

There weren't much room for dessert after the carb-filled meal but I will definitely be back for more and try out their tofu cheesecake (spotted that on the menu) but please DON''T change any for now!!!
