The outlet here at Nex is quite huge and as usual, there's always a large crowd. Thankfully they try to be efficient with their service, although sometimes it can be a bit brusque due to the stress of handling so many people. Generally though, service staff are quite polite. The waitress serving us was rattling off the dishes we ordered so fast that we could hardly make out what she was saying - but anyway, they give you the order slip so you can counter-check the items ordered.

Here's my recommended items to order:

- Oriental salad in special vinegar sauce

Order the oriental salad as an appetizer first while waiting for the rest of the dishes. I love the tangy dressing with the fragrance of aromatic sesame oil. The crunch of the black fungus goes well with the sliced beancurd, vermicelli and bean sprouts. A really appetizing and healthy dish - a must-try!

- Fried rice with pork chop

The fried rice with pork chop is another winner. The rice is coated evenly with plenty of egg and yet is not too oily - wholesome goodness with each bite
The pork chop is very tender and also well-marinated. A very satisfying dish.

- Hot & sour soup (small)

The "small" bowl of hot & sour soup is actually quite a large portion and can be easily shared between 2-3 people. The soup base is not too sour but you can add more black vinegar to it to adjust to your own preferred taste. There's plenty of ingredients in the soup, e.g. tender chicken pieces, sliced beancurd, bamboo shoots and black fungus in a tasty thick broth. Ground black pepper added to the soup gives it a spicy kick. A really nice dish as well.

- Steamed pork dumplings (xiao long bao)

Finally, the star of the meal - the xiao long bao! I actually secretly wished that one of the dumplings has leaked open - because if that happens, they will automatically give you another replacement for free, haha - which I don't mind
. But that only happened once before after so many numerous visits to din tai fung....so that attests to the skill of the chefs yah? As usual, the skin of the xiao long bao is thin and there's a generous amount of broth contained within each dumpling which oozes out with each bite. You can taste the sweetness of pork within the broth and the nice bite of fresh minced pork within each dumpling. Yummy!

As long as the standard of their food remains, I will always be their ardent fan regardless of the endless queues!

Usually when i come to this restaurant, i will order their signature xiao long bao and also their signature zha jian mee too. The noodles here are hand-made by the chinese chefs here and they are really long, chewy and smooth. The minced pork with dark fragrant gravy is very tasty and great to eat with the noodles. The portion is quite alright and the price is still quite affordable. However the disadvantage here is there are always long queues outside this restaurant.

I was surprised on the kids cutlery being placed on the inner seat (its very thoughtful). We did not order any drinks as tea & water was served. the service staff are very polite to check with us if its warm or cold water before refill. they are very prompt in refilling our drinks & clearing plates too.

We ordered,
century eggs + garlic, (not bad!)
lamien with pork chop, (my daughter likes the noodles & pork chop)
red bean dumpling, (personally like red bean alot, taste pretty ok)
2 x 10 pcs xiaolongbao, (tasteless! hardly taste the fresh meat taste)
garlic pork, (the sauce not too spicy)
wanton with sauce, (cant remb)
spinach with sesame, (ok i think)
pork chop, (the pork chop was done quite ok, texture not too tough)
i think one or 2 more side dishes

the main thing we went there is for xiaolongbao, yet the side dishes taste much better than it. Which was quite disappointed actually!

we paid a total about SGD78 which is about SGD13+ per head including kids. not quite worth if only the sides are nice but main dish disappointing...

I ordered the za jiang mian, or minced pork noodle, and it came in a pretty small portion (but just enough for me since i'm a small eater) and a bowl of clear soup.

The noodles were a hit, for it was just the right texture. The sauce of the minced pork however was a little salty, but still good nevertheless.

At $8+ a bowl, it's a just a tad expensive for such a small bowl. I would prefer the minced pork noodle at crystal jade over this any time, but it still wasn't such a bad meal overall.

the xiao long bao is very juicy, the soup is very tasty, the skin is not too thick yet the xiao long bao does not burst when you use chopstick the grab it. when you dip in vinegar, it is really very delicious! Tea was also served at 1 dollar per person which is free flow. My friends and i really like the xiao long bao. Their service is very good despite it being so crowded, our tea is always being refilled constantly so thumbs up to that.

The service was pretty good, and for once i didn't feel discriminated (because of our age) in a Chinese restaurant.

We ordered a basket of 10 Xiao Long Baos as well as the shrimp fried rice and wanton soup.

The xiao long baos are nice, with tasty broth within its thin skin. However, i prefer Imperial's Treasure's Xiao Long Baos though.

The shrimp fried rice was delicious, and the prawns were really fresh!

The wanton soup was not that good as the filling of the wanton was the same as the xiao long baos and it felt a bit queasy to eat that many meat fillings in a go.

Overall, not a bad place!

If you bring kids, they have utensils specially cater for the kids. Maybe they are worried kids might broke their ceramic utensils and cut themselves.

The century egg with diced ginger ($3.50) was quite sweet as the sauce was sweet but I still prefer the ones at the outlet at 313 Somerset. As for the xiao long bao, standard was still good. A lot of juice and the meat was very tender. The skin was not that thick. As for the oriental wanton with black vinegar and chilli oil ($6.80), it was not so fantastic. Rather tasteless. Will not order this again. So sad.

Overall, the service standard was quite good but I would much prefer other outlets as I find the chef there are more experienced and the food tasted better.
