When the grilled eel was bigger than the sushi rice, heaven seem got closer. The fillet almost covered the sushi below. If you really like the oily and sweet grilled eel, you will definitely like it. The sweetness from the sauce totally covered the sourness from the sushi ricce and the strong oily eel taste just make it too jelat (overwhelming) to finish by one person.

Sushi tei is one of my top places to for lunch as I really like the environment and most importantly, the food there. One does not simply visit Sushi tei without ordering its star item, the dragon roll. Deep fried king prawn and avocado slices, whats not to like? I will also order the cha soba as well, love the bouncy texture of the noodles and the sauce. Overall, quality food at reasonable prices.

This place has always been of my favourite places to go to if i ever want to get some japanese food! The flavours are good, and so are the freshness of the ingredients! One of the dishes that i always get and will never get sick of will be the sashimi salad or ramen salad! The reason why it's so good is because the ingredients are fresh and because the sesame sauce and sushi tei dressing goes amazingly with it!!!! This will always be one of my comfort foods!

that’s the thing I like and appreciate about sushi tei. They always serve generous quantities on top of the good quality food! Give this a try if u is sick of Japanese restaurant with compromised quality or sky high prices. You will not be disappointed! I have tried several Japanese restaurant, high ends and low ends and I always end up back in here. Love it to bits! I think I patronize them on average once a week! Ha-ha...

The well-known and leading chain of Japanese restaurants has kicked off its Spring celebration with the best of the best - Kagoshima Pork. Freshly imported from Kagoshima Prefecture by Sushi Tei, this particular type of Pork is sought after for its sweet flavour and rich fragrance, combined with its delicate texture and juiciness. Chefs at Sushi Tei have whipped up a comprehensive Spring menu showcasing Kagoshima Pork signature dishes, as well as other specialties for the season. The Spring menu is available from now till 15 June 2013.

The Spring delicacy is a sleek silver fish with a distinctive long and protruding lower jaw and it hence also known as Japanese halfbeak or needlefish. It has a sweet finish with a fine fishy flavour that not everyone will appreciate. Melded well with ginger and a light shoyu dip is enough to accentuate its sweetness and reduce the fishy smell.

- Kani Gyoza @ $6

Tender skin with every bite filled with succulent crab meat, seasoning was light yet flavourful. Served with vinegar and chilli oil dip.

Chilled organic tofu topped with century egg and fish roe, with creamy special century egg sauce. The century egg sauce do not have the distinct skunky after taste, in fact it was sweet and tasty. So simple yet so delicious.

- Kagoshima Miso Yaki Pork @ $11.50

Skilfully carved pork lion slices are impeccably grilled after being marinating in miso sauce. Each piece features tender and flavoursome lean meat coupled with just the right amount of fat for a buttery finish. The sweet miso complements the flavour of the meat perfectly.

- Kagoshima Pork Hamburger @ $8

Each pork patty is a dense 130g of finely ground Kagoshima pork loin, mixed with finely chopped onions, carrots and a balanced sprinkling of salt & pepper. The hamburger steak was prized for juiciness, rich flavour and tenderness. Accompany with a traditional Okonomiyaki sauce with a hint of sake for extra oomph. The sweet and salty sauce may be a tad heavy on its own, but it sure go well with a bowl of rice!

- Salt & Red Bean Ice Cream @ $3.40

The milky vanilla ice cream was loaded with large valvety red beans, along with slight hint of saltiness. This is somehow new to me, very unique indeed.

Let’s begin with the Ankimo Ponzu (Monkfish liver) which is soaked in soya sauce. The seasonal menu won’t really be complete without it for liver is considered to be one of Japan’s precious delicacies during cold weather. It’s also known for its rich taste and soft texture, which is usually compared to Foie Gras.

For familiar favourites, they also have the Salmon Oyako Roll ($10) and Bamboo Oyster Roll ($8). The salmon is just average, so if you’re looking for something interesting, we suggest you go for the Bamboo Oyster Roll. The idea behind this dish came from the bamboo sushi, where a piece of hollowed bamboo is stuffed with Sushi Rice and Sashimi. For this epicurean item, their chefs used cucumber strips to wrap the ingredients of pan-fried oysters, egg, and tomatoes. The result is a refreshing take on this popular item.

I started with the Monkfish liver. I am not a fan of liver, so I was a bit iffy to taste this. But it wasn't bad... It wasn't as fishy as I expected plus the soya sauce added a new dimension to the flavour. Next up were the Salmon Oyako Roll and the Bamboo Oyster Roll. Out of the two, I prefer the Bamboo Oyster roll for it's very unique. Instead of bamboo, they used cucumber strips to wrap the ingredients. So, it's very refreshing to the palate.

Now, this next dish is a must try: Kaki Kimchi Nabe. It's so perfect for the rainy warm because it is warm soup with lots of fresh ingredients inside. It also is a bit spicy so it's really gonna clear clogged noses. HAHA!!

Other notable mentions are the Gindara Saikyoyaki and the Kaki Sweet and Sour.

This is one dish which I will always order but you must always remind the staff that you want to have a freshly prepare one, else they might give you those that are on the covert belt which will not be so fresh anymore. Good thing is that Sushi Tei have a standard where you can tell them to change one if the dish is not fresh.

This sashimi include Bluefin tuna, Swordfish, Salmon and Tuna belly Sashimi. All nicely cut while the Tuna belly is simply melted in your mouth with each and every bite. Highly recommended.

Of these four, two dishes – namely Yakiniku Cheese Roll and Tori Nanban – were created by Sushi Tei’s talented chefs for the Supreme Chef Challenge Creations, which put the spotlight on the top six creations dreamt up by the chefs of various outlets. Definitely not to be missed!

To be generalized, the sushi variety is adequate but the taste is really just normal sushi you can find in other place or outlet. Some negative part is the choice of ingredient used. For instance, the tuna is really dry and a little bit tasteless, maybe due to the long keeping hours that alter the taste and quality. The baby octopus is also not very fresh. The chawanmushi is also not what I thought it will be - it is a little bit tasteless, more seasoning should be added. Rather than eating sush

I really love Japanese food, and being a big fan of it, we decided to head to Sushi Tei at Ngee Ann City for dinner. I ordered the sushi roll with sashimi and mango filling in it. It is topped with mango dressing, which tasted both sweet and a little salty. It costs $14.90 for the serving of sushi rolls. I feel the price is reasonable for the taste and quality of the food.

Sushi Tei is one of my favourite Japanese food restaurants; I somehow find their bowl of katsu-don very comforting and hunger busting. While they strive to produce fresh quality Japanese food, I always find myself intrigued by their ongoing special menus.

Sushi Tei has recently returned to Ngee Ann City, having moved up to Level 5 and taking up a whole lot of space. I would think it will be easier to get seats in their new location. And to celebrate their triumphant return, Sushi Tei has a special “We Are Back!” menu only available for a limited time and only at this particular outlet.

I had a bowl of Chasyu Don ($9) from the special menu. Tender roast pork slices, served atop rice are slathered in a nice sweet dark sauce. The egg served in this dish is really good, the egg yolk is molten- literally in a semi solid-liquid form that brings me such joy to savour.

Sushi Tei also has another set of promotional menu that changes with the seasons. This Lobster Salad Roll ($8.80) can be found in its current “Early Summer Promotion” menu. I really enjoyed chomping on the fresh lobster bits and crunchy roe topping with the sushi rolls.

For dessert, we got Matcha and Yuzu Sorbet ice cream ($3.40 per scoop) from the regular menu. Following the advice of RERG, we ordered individual scoops of ice cream instead of the many bells and whistles parfaits offered in the We Are Back menu. The Yuzu ice cream was very refreshing, packed with tangy citrus yuzu flavour and bits of the fruit. The matcha ice cream was packed with green tea goodness, but I thought the ice cream was a little too “icy”, it could have been smoother and creamier. Or maybe I’m just being overly fussy.

Sushi Tei serves out decent and fresh Japanese food fare at mid range prices and I am a big fan of this chain. They have an extensive delicious regular ala carte menu, but do look out for a few surprises in their changing seasonal menus.

It is very fresh and each slice of sashimi is very thick and sweet. It is one of the best sashimis that I have ever had so far. I didn’t even have to dip it in any soy sauce or wasabi. Just placing the whole slice into my mouth is enough to savour the taste.
